We use this in our RV and it works pretty well. It's helpful that >10 years ago, before just using our smartphones, that we used to have a Garmin device because the way of interacting with the device is somewhat different from google maps. Mostly I like google maps better for a number of reasons: 1) much easier to find places, 2) shows alternate routes and makes it easy to understand how they compare (distance, time, tolls, etc.), 3) traffic is built in with intuitive red/orange indicators. The main advantages of the Garmin device are that it takes into consideration the dimensions of the RV and I think that the maps are already downloaded. Garmin has a preference for large roads, and, at times, would route us on those roads when a smaller road that turned out to be very RV-friendly was much more direct. I like having this Garmin to x-check google maps for RV friendly routes; although, it can be quite painful and time-consuming to reconcile this with google maps by adding in one or more way points to force the Garmin to go there. It would be helpful if the Garmin somehow indicated why it wasn't considering other routes (e.g., low overpasss). Also, a couple times the Garmin has lost satellite connection and it's taken 20 minutes to reconnect. Fortunately during those two times (in the 1 month we've been using it), our smart phones running google maps connected just fine. On the positive side, the screen is a nice size and clear to read. When you take the time to learn the interface, it offers some nice features. The voice is easy to understand. For highway exits, Garmin pops-up what looks like a photograph of the exit sign, which is quite useful. Apart from the two missing satellite connections, the unit has been very reliable. I'm hoping that someday google maps will allow the user to input vehicle dimensions and then we'll switch to google maps as our primary and use this as backup. ... show more

I bought this to replace a Rand McNally RVND unit which Rand McNally quit supporting two years ago (shame on them!). I really loved what my RVND did for me, but it was time and I bought this unit at a good sale price. I was skeptical as I began to use it but I warmed up to it considerably. The connection to my phone, which gives me notifications, weather, traffic info, etc. is especially appreciated. Mostly (with one exception - see below), it gives me the same information as the RVND, only it is organized quite differently. The screen is bright and easily readable, and the touch feature works really well One feature it does not have which I miss is the ability to record gas purchases and then get a spreadsheet output that provides cost, quantity, location over the time period selected. A more serious gripe is that a lot of the routings it gave me were not efficient and I found myself having to examine selected routes and sometimes modify them; you can do that after a fashion.     • 7" RV GPS. Allows you to enter data on length and type of RV and tows to correct your routes.
The suction cup would be fine ,but the windshield in My RV is too far away to use for mounting. I tried attaching it to the dash on a flat round metal disk. Unfortunately it fell off several times on rough roads before I finally glued it on, and the screen is now cracked although it still displays ok. The phone connection is good, but the vloume is a bit lower than I need if I am at higher speeds, so sometimes I can't hear the phone too well. As for other features it has free lifetime map and software updates and a traffic receiver in the power cord, and with all the Freeway construction going on right now it is valubale to have the traffic and to update your maps and software often with your home network or a good cell connection. I bought this after my last RV GPS gave up the ghost. This GPS is easy to use, the display is bright, the volume is adequate, and the routing is excellent (as long as you enter your rig's information correctly). This is a must for anyone with an RV larger than a pop-up.

Definitely worth the money if you RV full-time. We used an app that turns your phone into an RV GPS for quite a while, but this RV Specific unit is so much better. It hasn't let us down yet.
