  • Know What You Are Buying
Style: Device Only Pattern Name: GPS Bike Computer
The Edge 530 is a very good GPS enabled bike computer. It does everything I expected of it, and did it better than any predecessor. Reading other reviews, there appear to be buyers who do not understand what they are buying. This computer is: 1) A consumer electronic device. That means it is not perfect and will require updates. 2) A fancy bike computer. No 2 ways about that! It isn't the top of the line Garmin, but it is much more than a speedometer. I don't have any bad details to report, so I will move on to the good: 1) Very good battery life. My Edge 520 was good for 7-8 hours (GPS, power meter, HR, cadence, etc). The 530 ran on STP (Seattle to Portland) for 12+ hours and had 38% battery remaining at the end. 2) Good connectivity. No issues connecting to HR, power meter, phone, speed sensor, etc. 3) Maps out of the box. On the Edge 520 I needed to upload maps of an area, not any more. It is all built in. 4) No touch screen. For me that is a good point. The interface is very similar to the 520...good for me! 5) GLONASS - added accuracy 6) Strava segment improvements. Not for everyone, but it handles favorited segments very well (compares you to KOM, PB, recent best, last time, friends best) The possibility of programming your own screens is not new, but it is a very nice feature. This takes the possibilities to a new level. This is part of the Connect IQ and allows you to download custom data fields/screens and make your device really work for you. ... show more

  • The best bike GPS just got better
Style: Device Only Pattern Name: GPS Bike Computer
I had the Garmin 820 and now I got the new 530 and its just amazing. The face uplift, its now sleeker and cleaner from the previous models, looks very modern and sharp. The screen looks little bigger, better and exactly the perfect size also perfect at night and under sunlight. Lots of new features and new stats and I'm still discovering. Overall, I'm happy with it so far and highly recommending the 530. ... show more

  • Great cycling computer
Style: Device Only Pattern Name: GPS Bike Computer
My only issue has been connectivity to phone occasionally dropping out or being undiscovered and that it seems to double pair. Everything else has been good though a little tedious at times to setup. An excellent unit and does everything very well. Wish editing the screens was a little easier and that adding multiple sensors could be done a little more efficiently but it's good Enjoying experimenting with the connectIQ. The incident detection worked excellently and contacted my wife when I was in a crash immediately. Unless you insist on touch screen I don't think it's worth upgrading to the 830 but that's just me based on how I use it ... show more

  • Went back and forth, really happy so far
Style: Device Only Pattern Name: GPS Bike Computer
Did a lot of research between this and a Wahoo ELMNT Bolt. Ended up going with the Garmin due to the fact that the Bolt came out 2+ years ago and wanted to get the latest tech. One of the things that pushed me over the top was the fact that Garmin can sync with a radar unit, which I haven't purchased yet, but wanted to option in the future. In fairness to Wahoo, they announced right after I purchased my Garmin that they now support radar units as well. I like the "jump" data I get on the mountain bike mode. I'm not a huge jumper, but it is fun to see the info. On the road I've had great experiences as well. I had read reviews about people having issues with the buttons, but mine has worked flawlessly. Very accurate as far as miles and elevation gain. Overall I've been very happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Best Edge so far
Style: Device Only Pattern Name: GPS Bike Computer
This is probably my 5th Garmin Edge unit, and the best yet. I'm a pretty hard core weekend warrior cyclist and am LOVING this unit. It is very responsive and snappy. The battery life is excellent, after a two hour ride using the routing feature, the battery is still at 86%. The first couple firmware revs (as with any Garmin device) were buggy but this latest rev 4.10 seems to have tightened things up somewhat, only to get better. Make sure you stay up on the firmware updates for best results. The Connect IQ Ride With GPS widget and the ability to easily spray custom routes to the device is wonderful. The combination of screen options is plentiful and more than I'll ever use. I'll update my review if things change in the future. ... show more
