I needed a lopper to cut branches I collect to burn in my fire pit. s]Some can be too thick to simply break and too thin for my 11" battery powered chainsaw. I looked at too many different sizes and prices for lopping shears. The 24" to 30" shears were just too big and often too expensive for my needs. I looked at these shears and liked the size and price. The geared leverage was intriguing but I thought it was probably just a gimmick. I decided to take a chance on them. They turned out to be exactly what I needed. It not only handled the branches but as a 20' to 25' tree with an 8" trunk fell in our neighborhood. This little lopper and my little chainsaw made quick work of the entire tree. The geared leverage helped the blade pass -almost- effortlessly through both the living green wood and the dead,dried parts. Definitely NOT a gimmick like I thought. They are very sharp right out of the box if you have the strength of Hercules you could probably cut down a full grown tree but for us humans if u have good strength you can cut down most stuff up to about 3-4 inch around u will have to do it in small increments tho but for what this is actually made for it does the job almost to good oh and these are about as sturdy Dee N—ts haja got em ... show more

I used this item to prune a small tree.It worked beautifully but because of the short handle I had to use a small ladder in some cases. However the shorter handle contributes to its advantage of being attractively light.
