    I’ve bought a lot of RTA (ready to assemble) furniture over time and there are at least two things that are universally true. One is that some of it is pure junk while other brands are acceptable considering the fact that it is economical to buy. The other thing is that the finished product rarely looks like the manufacturer’s advertising photos. So this review will be aimed at whether or not this TV stand is even worth considering, and whether or not it looks halfway decent for the price. First off, consider that this is at the very bottom of the price scale of anything remotely similar being sold by Amazon. It is simply unreasonable to set your expectations too high. Don’t expect real wood of any kind. That being said, the majority of similar “manufactured materials” products being sold today are either solid compressed wood products (sawdust) or laminate over a hollow core which may be 100% hollow or be filled with corrugated board (cardboard like a shipping box only thicker). The compressed wood product furniture generally can support an equal amount of weight over the entire surface up to the total weight the manufacture specifies, while the hollow core product is strongest around the perimeter, a heavy object placed toward the center can break right through the thin laminate. This Furinno TV stand uses solid compressed wood products. To break it down further, there are generally two types of compressed wood products, one of which is very densely compressed and the other (logically) is very loosely compressed. Both can be made to support close to the same amount of weight but the loosely compressed product will not hold a screw hole, while the densely compressed product works with screws similar to real wood. This stand is a more densely compressed wood product than some I've seen but definitely not dense enough to hold a screw. How the product assembles is important to know. Since it is compressed wood product you can’t screw it together without it falling apart. That’s why Furinno uses plastic tubular legs that tap on to a pre-cut holes. That arrangement works out ok as long as all of the weight on the stand is downward (which would be normal for a TV stand) and you don’t move the stand with anything on it because the legs are not designed to withstand a lot of side-to-side pressure. Assembly requires no tools and almost no effort, the instructions show using a book to tap the legs in although I’ve learned that one of the handiest tools I own is a basic rubber mallet. Do NOT tap on the shelves, but rather lay the shelf on a towel spread over hard flat surface and gently tap down on the fasteners to fasten them in place. I highly recommend using glue on any RTA furniture, my preference is Gorilla brand glue which seems very well suited for the types of materials used here but any good wood glue will work. I bought this stand not for a TV but for a wide-format color inkjet printer which is 24” wide. The fit is acceptable. I wanted/needed the stand to be low to fit under a desk and it is very hard to find a printer stand that is only 16” high. My printer is very heavy at 43 lbs. which is right about at the limit this stand is rated for, but because all of the weight is equally at the edges the stand holds my printer just fine. Another suggestion (besides using glue) is to use stick-on feet on any RTA furniture. Use plastic/nylon guides if you have carpeted floors and felt pads if you have hard-surface floors. That way if you do need to move the stand with some weight on it there is less of a chance of the legs snapping off. As far as looks, this is a very plain functional design so it looks pretty good. The black unit I bought has a smooth simulated woodgrain finish that doesn’t try to pretend it is anything other than laminate over pressed wood.     This is a nice stand for lightweight electronics or a very small TV. It took two minutes to assemble, and didn't require any tools. A few cosmetic defects at the edges (possibly due to minimal packaging), but they're only noticeable when you look closely.

    You get what you pay for. If these weren't so cheap, I'd give them a lower rating, but given the price, the value is just about right. Very easy to assemble, if you get parts that aren't warped. I bought 3 of these. 1 of them had warped supports that couldn't be screwed in. 1 had good panels with no damage. 2 of them had damaged panels, 1 worse than the other. I had to return 1 with the warped posts, and the one I got back still had damage on the corner. The reason they get damaged is because of a lack of a piece of foam on the ends to protect them from when they WILL get set on their corners in shipping. If you need something cheap, low to the ground, and don't mind a small ding on the corners.. These are fine. ... show more

    First the three star rating is because it is cheap. The supports are plastic. Minus a star as plastic does not have the longevity of wood or metal. I'd be surprised if this lasts more then a few years, and that is only assuming I don't move it much.The Manual clearly states 20 lbs for the top shelf and 15 lbs for the bottom. Then it clearly states to put heavier items on the lower shelves. Minus a star for lack of clarity. I'd guess even in today's market it has $3-4 of materials and maybe at most $5 for labor/packaging/shipping. That is a hefty mark up for profit. As for the product itself. For my purposes this is exactly what I was expecting. First I didn't want a product made in China. The reason is simply because they are traditionally cheap and break easy. This item states is was made in Malaysia. However it seems just a cheap as if it was made in China, so I struck out there. Secondarily I ordered this product based upon the stated sizes. As stated the product dimensions are accurate 23.8 (W) x 11.0 (H) x 15.8 (D) Inches. The depth is at the furthest point or the middle of the shelf, the sides are only 14.5 Inches. I needed these exact sizes (width and height) to fit under a table as you can see in the picture. Neither my Printer nor the LaserDisc player that the shelf is holding combined weight more then fifteen pounds. For my purposes this was perfect. The item wasn't very well packaged. I only mention this because the padding and the box it was shipped in was the original manufacturers box, and un-changed by amazon in their shipping. The sides of the shelves were not padded at all in the box. There was basic and thin styrofoam between the shelves. The box was literally the only padding offered. So I understand many people claiming they received theirs damaged. In my case I was lucky the box was enough padding and it arrived undamaged. One other note is there was plastic around the plastic supports, so not as much plastic as some products but still has some unnecessary plastic that will hit a landfill. However don't let the three stars fool you. This product is exactly what I was looking for and expected. I would recommend this product given you keep in mind it is cheap. ... show more
