After reading the directions a few times, it started to made sense… it was pretty easy… good quality parts… and also has directions and dimensions for wood… we do have experience with carpentry and DIY projects… as far a move ability goes, don’t plan on it… We secured it to the wall, very happy with it… love our Murphy bed.. ... show more

  • Detailed plans for seasoned DIYers or professional woodworkers
Size: Full - Vertical
These plans are incredibly detailed and the accompanying hardware is of excellent quality. It took me a full week to complete the bed and I needed my dad’s help toward the end (you physically cannot do some steps with less than two people). I have done a fair share of DIY projects and this was one of the more challenging ones. I used a circular saw but a table saw would be more accurate, and every centimeter counts on these pieces. When cutting you need to make everything as close to a perfect square as possible. Also recommend priming/painting one coat on all pieces prior to assembling and then a final coat once assembled. I found that the veneer tape wasn’t necessary with the semi-gloss paint I used so probably would not bother with using it next time. ... show more

  • Excellent kit for a Murphy Bed
Size: Queen - Vertical
The hardware for this bed is super sturdy and very impressive. It came with very clear plans and even an excellent video you can watch. I watched it once and completely understand what we would need to do to complete this project. My husband and I built it in just under a week (mostly because we have full time jobs and could only dedicate a few hours a day to it along with a weekend). The plans and this build are very detailed and your measurements are absolutely key to this project. We enjoyed building it and are very pleased with how it turned out. ... show more

  • Easy if you know how
Size: Queen - Vertical
This is a quality product and very well made, very sturdy, but the end result for me is mediocre. It took me about two months to build a queen-sized bed working off and on. Because I don't work with wood all the time I made a lot of mistakes, so here are some of the main things I suggest: 1) Use quality tools - I bought a name-brand circular saw that made all my cuts at an angle, even though I had it set to 0 degrees, so now every single piece is angled. I had to go back and correct all the edges which threw off my dimensions. 2) Get a set of countersinking bits and countersink all your screws, my drill wasn't strong enough to drive all the screws into the wood and below the surface, I don't know about anyone else but exposed screw heads look tacky to me. 3) Check all your wood to make sure it's true. One of my side panels has a curve in it, I didn't even see it until the bed was done, and now the bed frame rubs against the side panel whenever I open or close it. The only way to fix it is to cut a new side panel. 4) If you're painting, don't think that you can paint after you're all done, do all your painting before you assemble. 5) Get a good veneer trimmer, I used a sharp chisel to trim my veneer and it was slow, tedious work. 6) Measure three times, cut once. I had to drill the side rails several times because my measurements were off, I patched the holes with wood glue and dowels but I wouldn't have had to do that if I had measured properly. 7) Be generous with the wood glue, I thought I used a lot but there's still some creaking whenever you lie down on it. 8) The pistons are strong enough to break your arm. When you have the thing assembled and there's no mattress in it, it's insanely difficult to hold the thing down by yourself while you're, for example, attaching the handles to the front. 9) One person can build this but there are times when you need two people. I did it by myself and struggled a lot. But on the plus side I got to swear a lot. 10) You'll need more tools than the instructions tell you, I don't have them in front of me right now but you'll need wood putty for mistakes, some really strong wood clamps, a quality measuring tape, two drills (so you don't have to keep changing bits all the time), a level, some 3/4" wood screws for the panels that go in the bed frame, a stud finder, and that's about all I can remember but I'm sure there's more. 11) The lumber required to build this bed is very heavy, it's been a long time since I hauled around 3/4", 4X8 plywood. It can be intimidating to rip plywood, but you can do it by laying down a row of sacrificial 2X4s on the floor, laying the plywood on top, and setting the blade to just cut through the plywood and just barely into the 2X4s. It's safer than a table saw, and the plywood isn't going anywhere, it will stay put. With all the headaches and irritations of putting this thing together, I'm looking at it right now and it's a marvel of design, the instructions (when followed correctly) build an extremely sturdy piece of furniture. The bed frame alone is an engineering wonder, you wouldn't think that a bunch of sticks could come together to form something that can hold two human beings. I have so much room in my spare bedroom now, with the bed up and out of the way I can access the wall of closets beside it. We had a bed here for many years and we could never get into the closets. Even though cosmetically the bed is just okay, it functions beautifully and I'm very happy with this product. It's part of the house now and it isn't going anywhere, I hope whoever moves in after I die doesn't think it's an eyesore. ... show more

  • They do lots of thinking for you.
Size: Queen - Vertical
The directions are clear, minus my inability to glean sizes from the lumber list without reading it four times. Directions are good enough to pretty easily complete the project without YouTube or calling someone who’s more handy than you. The tolerances are such that even with the variability introduced by using entirely hand tools for the project, it still came out functional. Do I wish I would have just bought a fully assembled Murphy bed or even paid someone to assemble one from a website? Maybe, but that says more about me than it does about the product. ... show more

  • Very detailed instructions.
Size: Full - Vertical
This is an excellent kit. Much more thorough than I had anticipated. The directions are extremely detailed. Do not waver from them! I do have a lot of experience building things but this was the first Murphy bed I had ever built. I was expecting just a parts kit and I would have to design the bed. Nope, it gives you full building plans. Including cut sheets. It wasn't a fast project but I was very happy with the results ... show more

Really great quality parts and very clear directions. Extremely happy with the details and quality of the instructions. Bed works great and looks even better! Follow the directions, buy the wood they tell you, and you should be just fine.
