Description

The Mini-Mite 3 PLATINUM system includes the Fuji T-Model gravity spray gun. Fuji installs the same powerful 3-stage turbine motor as used in Q3 models. The MM3 PLATINUM does not have the patented noise-reduction feature as seen on the Fuji Q-Models, however the noise level is no more than any other standard HVLP turbine. The MM3 PLATINUM turbine develops approximately 6psi. This is more than enough pressure to spray all known coatings (when properly thinned) and all the newer water-based coatings. The T-75G spray gun is non-bleed and features a side-mounted pattern control knob (to adjust the size of the fan pattern) and 600cc gravity nylon cup. The standard air cap set 3 (1.3mm) is for the use of general purpose fine finishing. Easy to maintain. Perfect for professional or beginner. This is an industrial-rated machine at an unbeatable price. Heavy-duty metal case with gun holder. Portable and powerful. The system includes the Mini-Mite 3 PLATINUM turbine, 25ft Hi-Flex hose, T-75G non-bleed spray gun, viscosity cup, cleaning brush, wrench and 24 page user manual. What’s new in the Mini-Mite PLATINUM Series? The Fuji Spray Heat Dissipation Chamber: Fuji Spray has designed a unique method of removing any heat build-up from the turbine case. Excess heat is channeled to a Heat Dissipation Chamber located at the rear of the case. Fuji Spray Noise Reduction Covers: The Mini-Mite PLATINUM turbines are equipped with a method to reduce noise. The Noise Reduction Covers house the Filters. • Perfect for painting furniture
Pattern Name: Spray System
My only prior experience with spray painting has been air brushing model airplanes. However, this experience has taught me that most anything can be sprayed successfully if properly thinned. Fuji states this in their product description, and it is true. I'm using the Mini-Mite to paint furniture and cabinets. So far, all of my use has been with water borne finishes and all with the standard 1.3 mm tip that comes with the unit. I've sprayed General Finishes High Performance, General Finishes Milk Paint, Sherwin-Williams Solo, and Behr Premium Plus latex. The latter is a very thick "house" paint that I would not normally use, or recommend, for furniture, but I was painting some cabinetry in my wife's quilting room and that paint had been used on trim in the room so I figured I'd give it a try. The paint had to be thinned WAY beyond the maximum stated on the can (I thinned to about four parts paint to one part water) and the results were excellent. The 100% acrylic paints like Milk Paint and Solo spray like a dream with very little thinning. General Finishes High Performance can be shot straight. Use the viscosity cup that comes with the unit and get close to the 30 second time (the Behr, even after the 4:1 thinning still took about 40 seconds) and you should be in good shape. I have never played with the air flow, always keeping the air flow valve wide open. If I were painting tiny objects that might change. Given that the ready-to-spray viscosity of the various products has been pretty similar, my needle and fan adjustments have been pretty consistent - about 1 1/2 turns open on the needle and about mid-way on the fan. As a suggestion to Fuji, it would be helpful to have markings on these controls to make it easier to repeat settings. I have the gravity cup and if you get this model be sure that you snug the top down tight so it doesn't leak. The lid has a flat rubber gasket that, when dry, has enough friction to fool you into thinking you've tightened it enough. Now I rub an invisible film of tune-up grease on the top edge of the cup and have had no problems. Spraying with this unit makes very little mess. I do all of my painting in my garage, where I set up a three sided curtain suspended from ceiling track. It looks just like the enclosure you see around hospital beds. I got the track and glides at IKEA, and found 118" wide cotton/poly fabric for the curtain at Walmart. The enclosure is 10' by 10' so I put disposable 9' x 12' paper/plastic "drop cloths" on the floor (about $4 at Home Depot). After quite a bit of painting the only thing that gets paint on it is the paper on the floor. My white curtain is still very white and the rest of the garage is spotless. These machines do not create a lot of "free floating" mist. For any work I am likely to do the three stage Fuji is more than adequate. The unit is well built and the gun is very comfortable to use. I especially like the air hose, which is flexible and easy to move around, yet appears to be very durable. Keep your gun clean, and always use a filter when pouring finish into the cup because spray guns hate particulate matter. You'll wonder why you painted any other way. ... show more

  • Great HVLP sprayer for trim and doors
Pattern Name: Spray System
I was looking for an alternative HVLP sprayer for painting doors and trim. I have an airless sprayer but the unit takes a lot of paint just to prime. I purchased the Fuji sprayer as I was looking for a good quality unit versus some of the ones sold at the big box stores. I found that this unit worked extremely well for my needs and provides a great quality paint job, even using latex paint. I purchased a 2.0 needle set and thinned down my paint only 10%. It took a bit to dial in my fan and paint feed but once I did I was able to spray out a few rooms baseboard trim quickly. The unit is small enough to be easily portable. The hose is bulky so I will probably purchase the 6' flexible extension for more flexibility at the gun end. All in all, very happy with the unit. I found cleaning the gun some more easier and quicker than my airless unit. ... show more

  • Professional results for the amateur woodworker
Pattern Name: Spray System
I decided to upgrade from my compressor based air sprayer to the Fuji Minimite 3. Overall I'm really happy with the upgrade. Set up and cleaning was easy. The compressor is less loud than my stand alone compressor. And the spray gun was very high quality. Resulting in a great finish for my pieces.

  • An excellent spray system
Pattern Name: Spray System
About me: I've never owned a sprayer before, only used spray cans. Why I bought it: System gets consistently good reviews. Replacement parts and accessories appear widely available. Could get it Amazon Prime. I asked a pre-sale technical question and Fuji answered via email within 24 hours. System is well-packaged; lots of individual, sturdy boxes. The instruction manual if fairly complete. The illustrations and diagrams could be improved; they appear to be photo-copies. There were a couple of notable omissions from the instructions. There were two warning stickers on packaging (one on the turbine box and one on the gun box) about where to place the turbine and how to screw on the lid. These warnings were not included in the manual that I could find. If you somehow didn't see the packaging the system comes in (perhaps you bought it used and downloaded the manual), you might miss these warnings. The build quality is high. The main hose is very nice. It's a flexible, rubber-like material and the fittings feel solid. The turbine was more compact than I imagined (though I had read the specs before). The whole system is smaller than I had imagined. The spray gun is a bit lighter than I expected, but is well-made. Some parts appear to be cast; those that are appear to be plated (very faint parting lines). The tubing and filters appear to be standard items that could be replaced if official FUJI parts can't be located or in a rush. The included 1.3mm air cap nozzle was extremely tight! It was necessary to use the supplied wrench to loosen it. I can't imagine why it needed to be so tight (perhaps it got that way sitting in the warehouse or in shipping). The interior pieces are very well machined, appear to be stainless steel or aluminum. I am pleased with the care taken to make these critical parts. Extras: I bought the whip hose and an extra quick connect coupler for the hose-to-turbine junction. I like both, but they're not necessary at all. I also bought the spray gun stand; it does its job okay, but the vertical bar is disturbingly close to the delicate nozzle. I would've liked a few extra centimeters space so I don't accidentally mash the expensive part. Further, it's two pieces and feels less designed than other parts of the system (the two-piece design does serve a purpose: to swing the filter away from the cup). But the contraption falls apart if you pick it up by the upper piece. There's no retainer to keep the upper and lower parts together. In use: I sprayed water- and solvent-based materials, primer, and enamel. I practiced on some flattened cardboard boxes to get the needle adjusted. When using properly-thinned material and correct nozzle, it is straight-forward to get an even, smooth coat. I wouldn't say it's show-room car quality, but surely that's because of my skill level, and not the equipment. I expect that with more practice, I won't get any of these small blemishes. [***Please see edit below for followup comments.] One thing not mentioned in the manual: if you pull the trigger without pressure, you get a nice thick stream of material squirting out of the nozzle via gravity. Makes perfect sense in hindsight, but while flexing my finger in preparation for spraying, it was a bit of a surprise. I didn't find a use for the circular pattern. I strategized ahead of time how to use fan pattern for all tasks. I tried to avoid switching to the circular pattern because it requires adjusting the needle projection. Some people may find it useful to switch back-and-forth between fan and circular patterns. I plan to give it a whirl in the future, so the option is nice. The turbine is louder than I expected. It has the pitch and quality of a floor vacuum, but louder. I used ear plugs and wasn't bothered by it. I didn't notice the weight of the hose. Don't know if it's because I had the whip hose. The turbine does get hot, so watch out. Cleanup: Takes me about 30 minutes with the following steps: wipe with succession of solvent rags take apart and soak and wipe nozzle parts reassemble spray 1/4 reservoir of solvent wipe again take apart and wipe nozzle parts reassemble spray 1/4 reservoir acetone take apart to dry reassemble store I don't think cleanup time is unreasonable. Brushes take a certain amount of time to clean up properly, and cleaning this system is probably comparable to other spray systems. About the only think quicker would be rattle cans, and that's not a fair comparison. Q-tips and old toothbrush are very handy. The chrome plating makes exterior cleanup very easy. I am not sure how to remove lid gasket for cleaning; would using a pick damage it? I just did the best I could with a rolled shop rag. Other thoughts: I wish the system came with a few extra gaskets/seals (lid, two in nozzle) and pressure tubes. Extras available as a kit for $30 at the time of writing. I also wish the warranty was more generous. Also, alternative spray caps are pricey. Explanation of 4-star rating: Excellent product overall. Good build-quality, good performance. I am holding back the 5th star, because to me, to earn that fifth star, a product has to be superlative in all categories: quality, performance, and price. While the performance is excellent to my novice-eyes, the overall price is a bit steep, the extra spray nozzles are also pricey, and the warranty could be longer. If I had ten stars available, I would happily give it 9 stars. Again, an excellent product overall. I am happy with my purchase and would purchase it again. ***EDIT: After doing some internet reading and reflecting on my parts layout, I am now certain that the two blemishes I observed were my fault, not the HVLP system's. The first blemish was due to me not keeping the gun close enough to the surface. The second was due to crowding the parts too close together and causing me to pull the spray gun at an angle. Both are fixable with more spacious layout. ... show more
