If you were to put up one layer of these, I think you would be disappointed. They are fairly thin, and while one panel does have an effect it's not a large effect. Stacking two or three panels thick seems to be very effective, though you are of course buying more material to do that. The panels do not have any kind of adhesive included. That's fine though, one of the most common complaints I see about panels like this is that adhesives don't stick to them, and unless you're in the minority who own the space you live in, adhesive on the wall is problematic anyway. This material being a dense fiber, one good way to mount would be to sew the panels to a piece of backing fabric then mount that fabric. You could also use finishing nails through to a backing board and hang that board, or just pin directly to the wall with those long cubicle pins used on cubicle walls. ... show more

I am a voice actor and vocalist, working out of a very small closet booth. One of the hardest things to do in such a tiny booth (especially working on video games and animation) is be able to balance speaking and yelling parts in audio due to the massive amounts of reflection happening in a small enclosed space. There's just way too much sound bouncing around, and you need to deaden things as much as possible on all areas of the room without boxing yourself in even more. Though I already had quite a bit of sound treatment via blanketing and thick Rockwool panels on the ceiling and behind the microphone, there was still a significant amount of reflection happening inside my booth. It made it very difficult to project my voice without clipping. Determined to finally resolve the issue, I purchased a 48 pack of these to cure the problem once and for all. By doubling up these panels with hot glue, it makes a dramatic difference in absorbing the free reflections in my tiny booth and have helped me attain pro-level audio. Firstly, I like these tiles. They look cool with the beveled edge and they were super easy to work with. They are light but stiff and cut easily with a utility knife. That being said, they really don't do much for sound suppression. They reduce echo a little but if you are looking for a real sound deadening solution, these aren't nearly enough. I installed them in my laundry room on top of 4 other layers of sound insulation as a finishing touch to cover up my work and get at least some extra protection at the same time. Again, they are super cool but definitely manage your expectations around what level of sound dampening they will provide. If you need to reduce a lot of noise you'll need to pair these with a more hardcore material. ... show more

    • The good and the bad.

First part of the review : Does it work? In my opinion it works very well. I could tell by the negative reviews that people were not understanding how to use it , or don't really have a full understanding of the physics behind acoustics. I used it on the ceiling of a city cargo van I recently bought. The previous owner of the van installed Flettner roof vents. These are small wind turbines on the outside of the van roof that extract stale air from the inside. The bearings on the turbines make absolutely no noise, but the slight vibration is amplified by the bare metal roof and creates a somewhat loud annoying sound. So, I installed the acoustical panels on the roof to absorb the sound that was being created. I'm happy to say they worked exactly as they should and made a least a 95% improvement in the dirty sound waves that were being created. I found the quality of the panels to be excellent and the product itself exactly as I imagined. BUT HERE IS THE BAD: and it's not the fault of the product but the seller. THEY ARE NOT 12"x12". Thank goodness I only needed to cover about 12 sf so the size issue wasn't immediately noted til I got to the last piece. THEY ARE EXACTLY 11 3/4" x 11 7/8"., so not even a quadrilateral square. ... show more

This product is good. I purchase this to block the noise from next door. It works great. However this batch had some factory imperfections, I ordered white but as you can see on the picture it had some stains of another color tiles on back of the tile. I’m planning to paint it so it’s ok for me, but if you are not painting it check the package before installing it. Tiles are lightweight and I used the 3M Command Poster Damage Free Hanging Strips. I used 4 per tile one in each corner it holds perfectly. I recommend this product and Amazon has the best price! ... show more
