  • portable, solar and crank charge, and it will charge an iPhone 15
Color: Model D9
I was looking for a portable weather radio for camping/bug out and initially was going to get a Midland ER210 but a helpful amazon reviewer pointed out it can't charge anything but an iPhone 11 or earlier. I wanted the option to be able to trickle charge a phone or other modern device from the radio. Midland support confirmed it cannot do that for later phones. Initially, I could not get this radio to charge my iPhone 15 Pro Max either, but FosPower replied with the following steps: "1. unplug everything from the radio 2. set the SOS switch to the center position and turn the radio off if it is not already 3. Turn the radio on and find a clear radio station in AM or FM, let it play for a second or two 4. Switch to Bluetooth mode and set the SOS switch to the charging position 5. Connect the phone to either output port If this solves the issue, then steps 3 and 4 should suffice without needing to unplug any cables. Let us know your results." This worked and my iPhone 15 will charge from the type A USB port but not from the type C port (which is fine by me). After this "initialization" the radio will charge the phone no matter what position the Function Switch is set to and with the SOS switch set to either Off or Charging. Also works with the radio off. Overall seems like an excellent radio for size and function, with a few unnecessary features. The buttons are also impossible to read but usable once you know your way around. Pros: small size lightweight, 12.6 ounces on postal scale well built can be charge via solar, crank, or USB can charge modern phones great radio reception Cons: buttons very hard to read SOS alarm will play through earphone jack - caution volume control not too granular Questionable features (YMMV): flashlight compass bluetooth speaker micro SD card slot Useless feature (YMMV): white noise mode ... show more

  • Good in an emergency.
It does everything it advertises. Bright light, radio works, weather channel works, chargers work well. The sound is decent, and its size is convenient. Good value

  • FosPower4000 vs Raynic5000 - true comparison
Color: Model A3
This review will go over the pros and cons of the FosPower 4000 versus the Raynic 5000. Both are great units with a few key pros/cons for each that will determine which one you pick as your device. They cost virtually the same: First the Pros of the FosPower4000 - Build quality is top notch - it just feels solid without being heavy at all - The dynamo for the hand charger secured nicely and is easily retreivable - The bright to dimmer flashlight options are excellent and more versatile - The carabiner that is included is top notch - Limited LIFETIME Warranty (wow!) - Rechargeable battery easily accessible for replacement if necessary The Cons of the FosPower4000 - implying 4000 mAh battery - Only 2 ways to charge it; USB and solar; USB cable included but no plug - The manual tuning dial buttons are not the best way to go when you need quick access to a Weather band - No headphone jack - 8 times out of 10 when I grabbed it, I accidentally hit the SOS button; no button-lock feature - Handcrank does not feel smooth when turned Now for the Pros of the Raynic5000 - implying 5000mAh battery - Build quality if good but not as solid feeling as the FosPower - 4 (FOUR) ways to keep this one charged; USB, Solar, Handcrank and AAA batteries - Button-lock feature for no accidental pressing of SOS buttons - Regardless of the above line, the SOS button is out of the way, so even if not locked there is no chance of accidentally hitting it - Digital tuner - this is awesome for QUICKLY selecting the appropriate weather band - Backlit (can be turned off) Digital display for battery charge level, time, status of alerts - Smooth handcrank motion Cons of the Raynic5000 - 1 year Warranty in comparison to Full Lifetime Warranty of FosPower4000 - Handcrank comes loose from cradle very easily and is a little irritating - Pathetic carabiner included So, which one did I pick? It was a difficult decision because they are both excellent units, however, I ended up picking the Raynic5000! Why? Well, because, while it was difficult to forego the top-notch build quality and lifetime warranty of the FosPower, the Raynic had all the features that make it worthy of purchase while not suffering too much from its build quality; which really isn't bad at all. It's just not as good as its competitor. ... show more

  • Solid unit
Only tested a few times it functions as intended. Good value, radio is clear and easy to use

  • Works well, bright flashlight
Nice, basic weather radio. It's a good peace of mind device. Loud volume and bright flashlight. Very loud "alert" tone/SOS siren. The solar panel is just enough to keep it in "silent monitoring" mode all night and recharge during the day. Battery life is not amazing, but the solar charging keeps it running and if need be there's always the crank charger or USB cable. Being able to charge my phone with it is a big plus. Only thing I dislike is that the AAA "backup" batteries are for some reason used as the primary power source, so I keep the batteries separate for emergencies and just keep it in the window to solar charge. It would be nice if you could switch the device to use the Lithium Ion internal battery first, and only drain the AAA's if the internal runs out. Other than that, great little radio. ... show more
