  • Great sound, amazing value for money
Thought I'd take a chance on this as a small and compact amp and headphone amp to stream to. I was skeptical about the bluetooth sound quality and the valves (gimmicks?), however have been very pleasantly surprised. After a period of use (maybe a few days, 2 or 3) the sound definitely improved, more bass, more open. Sounds really great. So far only been able to try on headphones but the sound quality is up there. For the price is it amazing. Also, the headphones I have, Beyer DT-880 pro being high 250Ohm professional headphones, I thought this little amp would struggle but it does a very great job. Maybe it can't reach deafening levels but it goes loud enough and sounds really clear and clean. There is no noise at all that I can hear, even over bluetooth (impressive) at any volume level, even max. I look forward to trying this on some real speakers, I have some Elacs in mind, potentially. Having (a long time ago) designed my own class-D amps I know how good they can sound, despite my own initial beliefs about it. It seems valves and class-D amplification is actually a really nice combination, if done right. The valves supplied actually sound great after a little use - however I have the new USA GE 5654W to try next, once I have really got to know the stock sound first, so I can compare. I imagine these will take a little use to get to their peak too. So, pros; Amazing value for money Very well made Compact, great small size Great sound. Clean, no noise Upgrade options with the valves Works out of the box with Apple / MacOS and iPhones as well as other platforms and codecs Bluetooth is reliable, connects immediately every time! No fuss, unlike many fiddly products If I were to suggest some improvements I would suggest; Upgrade it to the very latest bluetooth standards, I was sad to see only BT 4 currently Remove the detent notched bass and treble controls, just use a linear controls, with a single center detent only Add a tone defeat, it sounds good enough this can be bypassed nearly always. Defeat would be less essential if you change bass and treble detents. Also the volume doesn't really need detents either, at all Ensure headphone socket connection disconnects the speaker outs, no one ever needs both at same time. Make it switched output on the speakers. I guess that's it really, of course more features would be nice, but for the price and size I think the about low-cost improvements would make it really an amazing product for the price. Pre outputs and power amp inputs would be amazing, but for the size it's not even clear you could fit them, so wishful thinking I think here. So, pretty pleased, 5* It is rare to find simple audio equipment at this price that works so well. I hope it can drive small/medium speakers okay - will see in time I'm already happy with the sound so if the new valves improve it, that is quite something for small additional cost I have had lots and lots of hi-fi equipment over the years including $5k speakers, so I do recognize decent sound. This definitely seems to have it, honestly if it had some fancy brand name on it, people would be paying $$$ more for it, no doubts. ... show more

  • Great amp for the price
Easy setup Sound is clear and crisp You can turn up the volume and it’s clear Bass/treble is great Runs cool Setting up the device, I used Riverstone GE5654 Tube. I became a massive fan of Riverstone’s tubes when I bought my first set for my FOSI pre amp. Get these when you order this amp (or any mini amp that uses this type of tube) and you will not be disappointed in the sound quality they create. Also, get some banana clips for your speaker wire. Keep it clean and organized. Plus, super easy to move your speakers around from amp to amp. They make life so much easier. I fired it up first using the RCA cable connection. I have my Wharfedale 225’s connected to the amp. I am using my MacBook to the amp and fire up iTunes. I can get some serious volume from this tiny amp. I consider my speakers to be decent for their price point. I love the sound I get from them and they are sufficiently powered with this amp. Bass and treble work well. No issues making adjustments to songs as I jump from tune to tune. Bass is warm and treble is crisp. I have been sitting here for hours now enjoying the music. Connecting to Bluetooth was simple and quick. Flip the switch on the back to Bluetooth and then look for FOSI AUDIO in your devices list to connect to. Sound was noticeably lower when I switched to Bluetooth. Even though my MacBook showed the out volume was at full, I adjusted the slider and then heard loud a pop and the sound stopped. But then I moved the slider lower and somehow my MacBook was now recognizing the output volume. Everything got louder! If you experience this issue, check the output volume on your audio source. Bluetooth sound is very good, but when you switch back to the RCA cables you can hear an improvement in the audio quality. Of course, you’re not going to be going back and forth testing out the sound when you sit down to listen to some music or whatever it is you turn on. Bluetooth is convenient and lets you connect pretty much any type of phone, tablet etc you have lying around. After a good sampling of the amp through my speakers I plugged in my Sony MDR-V700’s through the headphone input located on the front. WOW, amazing sound and clarity through the headphones. You get a nice, clean sound through them. I like having separate bass/treble to adjust when I felt a track needed some adjustment. If you are headphone person, I think you will be very pleased. Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase. I love how small it is, the power it packs, and it never got hot. Stays very cool. Due to size, this allows me to have all kinds of little amps on my computer desk to play around with when I want to change up the sound. UPDATE: I am having tons of fun playing around with all my mini amps. I have a FOSI Tube-P1 pre amp that I run the sound into first, and then into this tube amp. The sound is pretty AWESOME!!!! I am going to be getting more of these little amps and pre-amps and just mess around with them. I love it! ... show more
