Did I mention this thing has a lot of pockets ? Not counting the 3 areas where the foam is enclosed, there are 13 individual storage areas/pockets. Each zipper has a pull cord which makes them easy to open and close. There are also 6 sewn in straps where you can hang things in addition to 4 sewn in cords for attaching items. On the top back is a plastic clip most likely designed to hang this vest up. On the bottom of each front panel, there are plastic clips/buckles (a 6 foot strap was inside one of the pockets) for unknown reasons, but I would imagine you could rig this up as a belly strap to keep the vest from rising up if you fell in the water. The foam is more for comfort than life saving in my opinion. I have yet to test this, but when you remove the foam you will notice it doesn't have much substance, but I'm sure it will help. I'm 6ft & 180lbs and the vest is easily adjustable height/width with plenty of room to accommodate larger folks. Bought this for my 11 yr old son for when we fish on our kayaks. He’s a normal/slender kid and it’s “roomy” on him but it’s not for life or death situations. The pockets and storage are insane! There is even a spot he puts a small digital scale in because you know he’s got to prove his fish are bigger than yours. We used to put a little tackle box on the kayak but reaching behind you to get it was sketchy. This keeps your basics right with you and if you tip your kayak you don’t lose anything and aren’t scrambling to save your tackle because you’re wearing it. I am female and wear a 2x/3x with a large chest. I was concerned because it’s actually hard to find life jackets that fit. This will fit probably anyone. Once I shortened the shoulder straps and tightened up the middle it fit great. I would say up to two sizes bigger than I could still fit. The floatation… based on what I am seeing… it is fine if I’m in water I am sure I won’t die in…. I wouldn’t take it whitewater kayaking. But fishing on a calm lake or river it’s fine. I haven’t swam with it yet but it doesn’t look extremely bouyant just enough to survive which is fine. Lots of big pockets. Maybe slightly less uncomfortable than my regular one I use that came from a store with very large quantities of things. I would say someone owning one of these for fishing and one of those for long paddles would have all one needs for kayaking adventures. Off I go. ... show more

I purposely typed in Coast Guard approved fishing life fest and this is the first thing that popped up. They are not! So don’t buy these for any tournaments …Having said this..
