  • Best Toner I have ever used. The extra features really help in the real word.
I have been using a toner for almost 20 years. I got this one a while ago. I choose it because a coworker had one. I read the directions once and I was sold. Then I got one. It has a few major features that make this toner work better than any other toner I have ever used. Read the directions and learn all of the features. It is worth the price in my opinion. It can help you troubleshoot. I use this device in major hospitals, schools, and Government buildings. It is a must have as an IT tech. It fits really well in a traditional tonner bag. Let me describe exactly what I like. It has a traditional analog tonner setting. It has the alligator clips you need. It has the multiple different tones that change when the leads are shorted out!!!! It has a digital toner setting that can be used when the wires are shorted or when it is plugged into a switch!!! It tells you when it is plugged into a switch!! It can be used to test the RJ45 ends/patch cables. It is a simple cable tester and it works great to verify a digital tone. This tester is used in my tool bag. It can do more than two other tools that I have combined. This Fluke item is worth the cost. The extra features really help in the real word. ... show more

  • Did I receive a dud?? EDIT
Product looks nice and seems to work for everyone else, but I seem to get extremely poor performance with the digital toner. The video shows you being able to detect the cable by just walking by the room that it comes out in. With cat5, I can get a signal about 1 foot away from the cable, and with cat6, I have to be TOUCHING the wire. This is not the analog toner I'm speaking of, that feature seems to work well. However the digital toner seems to be advertised to be able to pick up a signal from at least several feet. My mileage is much less. Makes a good portion of this unit's functionality useless. I will probably try to return this for another and if the replacement does the same, I will definitely be returning for a refund. I don't have experience with other toners, so I cannot comment on comparative performance. If I'm using it wrong, please let me know. 1. Plugged the toner into cat6 keystone jack with included wire. 2. Turned both toner and probe to the image of the probe with the radio waves coming out (the larger waves on the probe) 3. Walk around with probe at max volume. Get nothing until I am TOUCHING the actual wire. This is a wire within a bundle of about 30 cat6 cables. I will amend this review if the replacement works better. ---- EDIT ---- I received a replacement from amazon overnighted and i am pleased to say that the replacement works much better. The probe will now pick up the digital tone from a couple feet away. Everything else works great. So lesson is, if your probe seems to be lacking in performance, do yourself a favor and exchange it! ... show more

  • These work great
If you are toning out a data jack plugged into a switch this works great. Most toners get drowned out by a switch. This one blasts so loudly you have to rely on the signal indicator to locate the exact wire you’re looking for. Just didn’t wish it cost so much. It’s also nice having continuity tester built in. ... show more

  • Handy - and really inexpensive tool for Network Managers!
I am the IT Manager for a small business with a 50 user Ethernet network. Our broadband provider is AT&T - we recently migrated from AT&T DSL to AT&T UVerse and couldn't be happier! After replacing our dumb CISCO 24-port switch with a HP 48-port "Smart Switch" I detected there were some issues across my network with dead ports on our server rack panel. Now- how to figure out where these patch panel ports went within our widespread office building? Enter the Fluke Networks IntelliTone Pro 200 kit which I bought from AMAZON using my PRIME subscription. The item showed up in the normal 2 day window and was simple to set up (install the provided 9-volt battery into both the sensor and the toner units). I loaded up the instructional CD (a 'mini cd' disk) and reviewed the instructions. From there it was a cakewalk to fire up the toner and attach it to the network cable at the far end of the system (where the cable plugs into the user's PC, you unplug the cable from the pc and plug into the toner. Move the control knob on the toner to "transmit" (a picture looks like a radio signal) - Turn on the sensor wand and set it to the mass-detect and go to the other end of your network where the ethernet switch is and wave the sensor wand until you locate the tone signal (you will HEAR IT). Switch the sensor wand to individual detect mode (a smaller radio wave on the display selector switch) and you can narrow down your search to the specific cable socket on your network. CAKE! I would buy again and I would recommend to a user with medium ability... a complete newbie could do this as well, if you have decent logical reasoning ability. The instruction manual is weak (IMHO) and the quick start pamphlet is useless (perhaps better if Japanese or Chinese are your first language?) Solid performer, decent price. ... show more
