    • Great for Small Areas
The key point to remember is always turn the flow-dial clockwise (righty-tighty). The dial can be adjusted counter-clockwise (lefty loosy) too, but sometimes you may end up just disconnecting the lid from the container instead and end up pouring a bunch of material onto the ground at your feet The dial is kind of sticky and may require a bit of strength to turn. This can certainly be affected by cleanliness and what other materials the dial has been exposed to. So far i have not found this to be a major issue for my personal strength. The container size feels kind of small but is great for small areas of < 5-10 sq ft and is much better than the standard "solo cup" solution a lot of people are probably used to. One potential improvement might be a way to formally lock the device closed so accidental adjustments don't cause spills. ... show more

    • Easy and effective for grass seed
I have several different types of seed spreaders, but this is my favorite so far. My wheeled spreader works well enough on flat, even, golf-course ground, but it doesn't appreciate any sort of rocks, roots, or other obstructions, and it takes 2 hands to push it. I have a handheld crank-spreader that works OK, but it also takes two hands, one to hold it and the other to turn the crank. This leads to sore shoulders pretty quickly. This spreader, by contrast, requires only one hand. It works with a flick of the wrist, back and forth. Sure your wrist gets sore, but then you just swap hands, easy peasy. While this isn't the right tool for seeding an entire yard of bare ground, it's excellent for a patchy lawn with random bare spots. As you walk around, you can hit the areas where seed is needed, and simply walk past those where it isn't. The plastic is quite sturdy, I don't think it'll break unless you accidentally run over it with your car. To fill the spreader, you unscrew the green funnel part; that leaves the black part, which is basically a cup you can scoop in your bag of seed in order to fill up, then screw the green funnel back on. Be careful to do so tightly, to trigger the "catch" at the end - this keeps it from unscrewing accidentally while you're shaking it around and dumping all your seeds in one pile, which happened to me while I was learning how to use it. I only have one minor negative, and that is, that the black cup isn't smooth, it's ribbed. Perhaps that's to help the seeds spread more evenly? But it can make it a little tricky to get it completely filled just by scooping - it may be easier to use another cup to scoop out of the seed-bag and pour that into this, as many times as needed until it's full. Anyway, when used properly, you get a shockingly even spreading of seed, however dense you need it to be, and in the areas where it's most needed. Useful and effective! ... show more

This hand shaker is nice amd light weight but also holds a ton of seeds. I filled it with an ounce of sunflower seeds and it worked great. It fits comfortably in my hand and was easy to use. I am using for seeds and the dispensing dial has 4 different sizes. I am using the smallest 2 sizes for flowers. It could be used for other things as well. It seems fairly priced. ... show more

I grabbed this to spread some grass seed in the patchy areas of my yard, so I have not used it yet, but I think it will work out great. Currently I have a tiny can that I use to walk around the yard and shake some out, so I am looking forward to a container that can hold a bit more seed at a time! This seems to be a good size to hold enough seed, yet remain lightweight enough to use with only one hand. The handle is easy to grip and hold onto and the whole thing should be easy enough to shake out some seeds. I like the adjustable top to control how much comes out at once. This dial seems to be a bit difficult to move though. It takes a little effort, but isn't too bad. It may be more difficult for those struggling with hand strength though. The whole dispenser feels pretty durable, so I am sure it will be around for many years to help me out. If I find any problems after using this I will update my review, but I don't anticipate any issues. ... show more

I was quite pleased with this item. If you have something to spread on a small area, whether it is grass seed, some kind of treatment like a fertilizer, or maybe sprinkling a small area with salt in the winter, it would be great. If you're planning on covering a wider area, you may want a larger item, perhaps with a mechanism to help spread the content. But for what this is, it's a well made useful item at this price point. ... show more

    • Shakes well dial sticks
This is very lightweight and takes twice the amount as my cup i used previously so for that it definitely helps. The dial to select opening size however is rather difficult to get to the size is want and can cause the top to open all the way when trying to turn the dial. I would have it adjusted separated from the canister and then proceed to shake it as once it's set where you want it is works fairly well. ... show more
