  • Peace of mind
Size: 2'ft. x 6'ft.
I bought a 2' x 6' mat for my wooden front porch. It is pricey, but I decided it would be worth far more if it prevented just one fall. We secured it down using the 4 grommets at the corners, using wood screws and metal washers. The 5' cord is a bit short. The mat has a very basic design. To turn it on, plug it in. To turn it off, unplug it. There is no on-off switch. It uses about 540 watts and operates off a 120 volt system. Maximum temperature is 55 to 65 degrees, so I had no worries about the heat from the mat causing a fire. We just had a blizzard, and the mat did what it is supposed to do. There was no snow on the mat, and several inches along side of it. A problem arose when we had to turn it off. We had to walk over snow/ice to get to the plug. I purchased a solution: an outdoor, heavy-duty timer with a 6' cord and a remote control (available via amazon). ... show more

  • Great product and an even greater investment in a company with Amazing Customer Support!!
Size: 2'ft. x 10'ft.
I purchased 2 of these for my balcony in 2019 for that winter season so I could avoid having to shovel it out every time. It's a no-traffic area where nothing was on top of the mats but shoveling is required so that the balcony doesn't collapse from the potential weight of unshoveled snow. Installation couldn't be more simple: 1. Unroll the mat(s) where you want them. 2. Plug in. I added an internet-controlled outlet that I use to plug both mats in so that I can control when they turn on/off without having to go out in the snow to plug them in if/when I forget to turn them on in advance. The mats work like a charm. The snow was controlled (melted) as it was falling, even during somewhat heavy accumulation storms. It even cleared away about 1 foot of snow after there was about a foot and I had forgotten to turn it on until after it stopped snowing. That was year 1. However for the 2020 season that just ended, I discovered that when I would start to use the pads, that the outlet in which they were plugged would turn off -- the GFCI outlet's shutoff would trigger. I narrowed down that issue--after diagnosing it because I wasn't giving it a lot of attention--and one of the pads, 5-10s after plugging it in, just shuts it down. So, clearly there's a short somewhere and I don't know how this closed system could be reviewed/fixed. I contacted RHS through Amazon to ask about what could be done and they had me box up both mats so that they could review them. They told me that they would repair or replace them after that review. They turned the mats over in just about a week and they're practically new again. I wasn't expecting that level of service and so I was VERY pleasantly surprised. I feel that my investment in this product was well worth it given RHS's commitment to ensuring that everything works right. I would buy these again and/or recommend these for anyone who needs to melt snow on either the ground or a roof/balcony setup. ... show more

  • Works great as a walkway mat
Size: 2'ft. x 5'ft.
Excellent grip, I would not worry about slipping on this. It does not get as warm as I was expecting--you can barely tell that it is on when you put your hand on it. Definitely meant as a leave-it-on-continuously product. It didn't make much of a difference on a couple of inches of snow after an hour or two, but overnight it had completely melted that section. It even worked on some thick, compacted ice I had driven over in the driveway, however then there was a very thin wide layer of ice after it had melted and refroze. This thinner ice was then much easier to take care of with salt though. So potentially a way to help deal with stubborn thick ice patches. It would be nice to have just the tiniest LED light for confirmation that it is on when plugged in, particularly for an outside outlet that has an indoor switch. ... show more

  • Works great!
Size: 2'ft. x 5'ft.
This mat works great! I used it to melt through an existing ice damn on my roof that was about 5” thick. It took about 24-30 hrs to melt through that much ice but it did it and saved my roof, I let it get through one section then just moved it down the 25’ length of roof till it was all gone.

  • Great customer service and great product
Size: 2'ft. x 10'ft.
we ordered this mat after a fall happened on our wheelchair ramp. I never knew such thing existed . We installed it on the ramp and was working fine and did what it was suppose to do. A few weeks later we had a problem with it popping the breaker. I called the company on a Sunday night and Monday morning I had a phone call from the owner and the mat is being replaced for free. He took his time talking to me and I would do business with this company again. This is an A number 1 business. Told him everything we did on our end to correct the problem too. Thanks for being there for us. ... show more

  • Works great, but self degrading?
Size: 2'ft. x 6'ft.
I used this product to cover the distance from our back door to the grass over a wooden deck. When it was expected to snow I plugged it in and left it for up to 4 days over the winter. When I picked it up the back (under) side looked as if it was burned. The outer cover had cracked up exposing the elements. I didn't notice it at first since the deck was undamaged, but not really sure how I should fix the mat's outer coating safely. ... show more

  • Works just ok.
Size: 2'ft. x 3'ft.
It needs to be on for hours a head of any snow. Takes way to long to melt ice or snow when turned on after any rain fall or snow.
