We have a large 2-level brick patio surrounded by a seating wall and a huge garden area that surrounds the entire patio. The original garden area was planted over 20 years ago, and took about 3 years to complete the design and plantings. I did the design and almost all of the planting and maintenance since my husband felt his only responsibility was mowing 3 of the 5 acres we own. 20 years ago, the garden looked like a botanical garden, but then life got in the way - my elderly mother lived with us for 10 years and we aged. The garden was let go for over 15 years and nature took over. Last year we paid a landscaper to remove the unwanted trees and bushes and the larger weeds. Although the garden area looked much cleaner, this spring the weeds came back with a vengeance. Since my husband told me that he resented I had not done any outdoor work for a few years, I have taken on clearing the entire garden of weeds and other unwanted plants. At 77 years of age, this is no small task. For almost 2 weeks, I have been pulling weeds by hand and removing small branches and dead leaves by hand. I decided to look for hand garden tools that might make the job easier and found this set which I immediately ordered and got the next day. I have been using these tools for the last couple of days and I can't believe how much easier is to remove weeds and dead leaves under perennial plants. So, what do I really love about this set of garden hand tools? 1) They are attractive and pretty which I suppose would be important only to a woman. 2) They are very well made and heavy duty. So, I believe they will last for a long time. 3) The variety of tools works for so many purposes. The hand rake is great for getting dead leaves and small branches of under growing perennials where a large rake wouldn't get under and between plants. The different pronged rakes help to loosen soil so weeds can be pulled with the roots so they don't come back. The small hoe helps to loosen soil so the tiny weeds can be removed with the roots. The trowel helps with removal of larger weeds that have deeper roots, like dandelions. 4) The box the tools come in has a handle. So, it can be used to store and transport the tools to the work area without having to buy a tool bag. The only hand tool not suppled in this set is pruning shears which I already have. Personally, I would definitely recommend this set of garden hand tools. It includes almost every hand garden tool you could imagine and then some. UPDATE 06/15/24: I have been using these tools for over 6 weeks every day for the massive garden cleanup. Most of these tools have been so very helpful to get the job done. These are handy but the tines are not as strong as I hoped. In digging up some old plants and roots, the tines bent out of shape so I had to hammer them back.

They're well made and exactly what I wanted! In the spring long handled tools are fine for clean up, but as young plants start coming up, you need to be a little more detailed. This is everything and more that I have in long handled tools. Its got good handles for gripping. The edges are sharp work well. they clean up well...I can't say enough good things! ... show more

I was suprised how sturdy these were. My mom does a lot of gardening and she enjoyed these as a birthday gift to replace her weak, rusty ones. The floral pattern complimented some new gloves I bought her as well. These are great when doing small scale gardening like for an apartment or community garden. These are good, cheaper and lower quality then I was expecting, but you get what you pay for. lol They will pass the old lady text, but dont let your young sons play with them or they will break. lol
