Globe is high quality plastic and metal. It is easy to set up, but it takes a little practice. I found that by slowly rotating the globe while carefully removing the plastic spacer, the globe will remain floating for hours. Because there is no friction, globe will continue to spin for hours. I have it set up in my office. Everyone that entered my office had to take a minute and try to figure it out. I turned it off for the evening as I was heading home. My husband had a similar globe. He is a scientist, and he love similar objects. However, he bought his globe when he was in grad school almost 50 years ago. Not only was it out-of-date, but the magnetic function gave up. I surprised him with this globe for his birthday. What a hit! This globe comes with six blue LED lights on the upper magnet. These lights are very bright and always on-- not suitable for a bedroom. My biggest complaint would be the speed at which the globe spins-- it is too fast! The magnets get it spinning, faster and faster. Once up to operating speed, the globe makes a revolution every three seconds-- far too fast to be able to read any country or city names. ... show more

Bought for my 10 year old for Christmas because he wanted a globe. It is beautiful and so neat. Unfortunately he had a seizure the night of falling asleep watching it. Warning to anyone who has a sensitivity to moving lit up things in the dark. He still uses it-just not lit up or floating.
