I love this thing. It splits like a dream and can survive major overstikes. It takes a sec to get used to the longer handle. Totally worth it. I dont use my othe maul anymore.

Usually I own something for a while before I consider reviewing. Made up my mind sooner than usual on this. First, it rocks out of the first hit pretty easily(sycamore is a pain to split). Second, it really does give a good split on the first strike for the most part. Only complaint is the flaired lip on the handle end catches the hem of a tshirt on the upswing, and I might add some no slip grip patches on the handle to help with gloves in cold icy weather. But here’s why I’m giving a review so soon. Cut down a dead oak and split most of it except for one twenty inch long chunk about a foot across. A maul just kept bouncing off. Splitting axe went in for an inch and got stuck. Wedges were mushrooming under the sledge. It was my white whale for a few days. Destroyed my cheap ace axe(plastic handle ripped out off the head) so ordered this. Took about eight strikes with the fiskar axe before it finally split. There are about a dozen fence wires running through the width of the trunk, spaced evenly throughout. It was essentially stapled together, and the new axe managed to tear them all apart. For years I’ve used cheap axes with no real complaints, I’m not a lumberjack so good enough for me. But they are getting cheaper and cheaper so spring for a good one, happy I did. ... show more

This was a sketch buy as I have always used heavy wood handle old school axes chopping wood growing up. Yes this is my husband talking lol. However this was amazing. Lightweight and easy to swing. It has split through some tough pieces. Blade seems to be holding up and doesn't seem to hard to sharpen if needed. ... show more
