I chose this to help protect the floor from any embers that might fall out of the wood stove. The material feels thick enough to offer some protection, but any substantial red hot log falling on it, I'm not so sure. It comes folded up and after a few days still shows the fold marks! The material on the bottom is not fireproof. They label the top "top" but had a hard time peeling it off.
