  • A beautiful box set, but cheaply put together...
I'm a TOOL fan through and through, and though I love this display piece/box set it's important to note its flaws for anyone on the fence about buying. The adhesive that keeps the pages together is not up to par with the rest of the book's quality, and mine was already coming apart the first time I flipped through. It's fine on the first few pages, but once you get to the pages that house the discs it starts to become apparent. Also, the glossy foil-esque finish of the outer box and the cover of the book itself is highly prone to scratches. Be very careful about how you handle this thing. It's also important to point out that for some reason, there are lyrics for every song except 7empest. Struck me as odd, not a huge deal but something worth mentioning. It's a gorgeous looking product, and at its current price (I bought it at $61) is a great deal. I don't think I would have paid more than $90 or so. In my opinion it isn't worth the retail price of $180. Fear Inoculum is far from my favorite TOOL album, even if my favorite song of theirs (Invincible) is on there. In my opinion this album gets a little too much hate. It's definitely not entry level, and if you're a new TOOL fan do not start with this album. It feels like the culmination of everything else the band has put out up until this point, and as such you should save it for last. ... show more

  • Great album
Loved this album. Down side to this edition is. Its 4 records one side music other side small barely printed picture. About 2 song per record. Pick it up when it's 80. Don't go over a 100

  • Sound the dread alarm
Like many I was beyond excited to hear about the release of this box set. Of course I immediately pre-ordered it and happily awaited for it to arrive. For me it was well packaged and had two layers of cardboard and foam inserts to ensure it would not receive damaged in shipping. The album packaging is some thing I have not seen many times before in vinyl, it’s collectible for that reason alone in my opinion. Rather than being a traditional box set, it is book style with each disc having its own page. The only other set I’m aware of doing something like this is My Morning Jackets Okonokos re-release box set. My only major gripe is that some of the pages, either due to the printing process or poor storage, were stuck together and when I peeled them apart the edges became torn. I don’t believe it was water damage, I genuinely believe it may have been a mistake because of the printing process or something else. It doesn’t detract from the beauty of the packaging completely, it is just a minor nuisance and why I’m giving this album a four star review. As far as the music goes, it is well mixed and different in my opinion from the digital release of the album. It might be my set up but I did find it hard to follow Justin’s bass lines at times, but otherwise it is an excellent pressing. My only other annoyance is the fact that it’s five discs rather than three. Don’t get me wrong the etchings are very cool and very attractive from collectibility standpoint, however it does feel somewhat unnecessary given the art that you do get in the book. The labels on the records are very cool, and harken back to the cover artwork and some of the visuals that we have seen on the recent TOOL tours. This is a minor complaint, but the track titles are not listed on the labels so if you pull all the disks out you will most likely mix them up. Overall, if you are a vinyl enthusiast and love progressive metal and art I would recommend you purchase it. It is definitely more of a collectible album than a play it when ever album in my opinion. ... show more

  • Great Collector Set
I love the collector's edition, but the packaging makes it difficult to pull and replace the five plates that are included. With the sleeves being permanently fixed inside the book, it is difficult to handle the records themselves, and with the plates being one sided (artwork etched into the flip sides), this needs to be done five times in order to listen to the whole album. ... show more

  • Beautiful box set and a really nice mix
I bought the limited edition 5 disc set from Amazon for $61.70. It was worth every penny. Honestly, it was a steal at that price. The set comes as a single bound volume, around the size of a coffee table book or art book. The volume includes artwork on really glossy pages and portraits of each band member. The LP sleeves are made of heavy duty cardstock and are bound into the book alongside the pages. The etchings on the records are beautiful and they match the style of the images in the book very well. Unfortunately they are very faint--You have to catch them in just the right light to see the detail. Etched images are a difficult thing to get right on any vinyl release, so I don't feel too bent out of shape about it. Plenty of reviews rave about the mix on this set and I agree--it's' phenomenal. Even on crappy speakers this is a mix that really lets each performer shine. I also appreciated the way Amazon shipped this. It came in a sturdy cardboard mailer with foam padding from the manufacturer, which was packed inside an outer box from amazon. Everything arrived in great shape. I definitely recommend this for yourself or the Tool fan in your life. It's a solid pickup, especially at the price I paid. ... show more
