    • Excellent grab bars
These are very well made in every respect. The matte black finish is beautiful and matches my matte black plumbing fixtures. I am safer having these in the bathroom. I haven't measured other handrails to compare, but the diameter of these is easier for me to get a firm grip than some larger grab bars in public bathrooms. I am able to wrap my fingers further around the bar and lock on. These are 32mm or 1.27" diameter. The width is enough for 2 hands plus a little. Just right. Each end attaches to the wall with 3 screws after the flanges have been screwed to the bar with 1 larger screw. You will need to orient the screw plate in the only way that a screwdriver can reach all 3. If you have a very fat interchangeable tip screwdriver, the bar interference may force driving 2 of the screws at an angle. Very happy with these. ... show more

    • Safety first
We have two steps up from our garage into the kitchen and this is the door we always use. I don't even know where the key to the front door is, but that's another story. So the garage steps don't have a railing and there's no easy way to fix that. Older friends and family(me) have a hard time without something to grab and that's where these "grab bars" came to the rescue.     • Grab bars: they’re not just for showers anymore
I live in a house built into a hillside, with multiple levels of porches and decks, and sets of stairs linking them. It’s an extreme climate, getting more so as we see more frequent freezing rain in the winter. I ordered two sets of grab bars to install outside for protection against slip-and-fall injuries on the ice. My theory is that places of transition are the riskier fall zones; when we change level, footing, speed, or direction, the odds of a slip-and-fall injury are greater, and where you have more than one of these factors, the risk compounds. The other set of grab bars I have coming have a knurled grip, and I plan on putting them at what I consider to be the spots that will offer the greatest benefit. These just do not give me that sense of security I seek. The bar feels a bit large for what I assume is my average-sized hands, and is very smooth. I will probably wrap these with a tape designed for sports that gives a greater grip. Especially when it’s cold, lighting is poor, and I am wearing thick gloves or mittens, any factors that can tip the odds is worth considering. Ironically, these grab bars were shipped in a box with an illustration of grab bars with knurled grips, so the concept is there. I took away a star not because it is not ideal for my non-standard application—that would not be fair—but because it just doesn’t seem to offer a good firm grip. I’m picturing this in the designed, intended use—a bathroom with steam-slicked surfaces, and could envision someone’s hand slipping on this just when they need it most. I fully grant that one person’s too-big in this Goldilocks world would be another’s just-right, so take this review in context with what others have to say. In my estimation, it’s not the safest option out there. In my application, worst case scenario, it could be a matter of broken bones or worse, and based on that, I just cannot 5-star an item that doesn’t give me a sense of confidence.     • Solid basic grab bar
There is nothing fancy about these. They are just a smooth powder coated black grab bar. They come well packaged to avoid damage and include everything you need to install them. Installation is simple. Bolt the base plates to the grab bar and screw the base plates to the wall before snapping the cover ring in place. The only negative I can mention is that the included screws are a bit on the small side. I would not expect them to take a great deal of weight before pulling out. If this is intended for a larger person it's probably best to swap them out for longer screws with a a coarse thread. Update: Knocking star off because I've had to go back and reinstall these now. The mounting screws they come with are not only smaller than I'd like, but they are a very brittle metal. The heads on 4 out of 6 screws in each grab bar have sheered off since installation. Toss the screws these come with except for the bolt that attaches the plate to the bar and use your own screws to mount them to the wall. ... show more
