  • gel mask provides hydration & a slight tightening effect
Super rich but lightweight GEL mask. Fresh light scent. Nice smooth cool feel. It is meant to be used a few times a week at night, or anytime skin is feeling/looking "stressed". Use after cleaning but before moisturizing cream. Formerly known as Overnight Recovery Mask. Exuviance has changed over the overall look of the products, and have changed some names. I am a big fan of overnight masks, and sometimes I use them during the day. My skin is 40 something, dry, and extra dry right now in the harsh cold NY winter. After washing my face and applying a hydrating toner, I skipped any serums and go straight for this mask. A little goes a long way, especially if skin is still slightly damp. So dont take much out to start. Be sure to give it time in-between application and adding moisturizer on top. They recommend 5 minutes. Those with dry skin will immediately notice the moisture boost. Listen for your skins sigh of relief. haha. It kind of reminds me of Peter Thomas Roth water drench (similarly priced). Not the same in formula but similar in what it is expected to do. Exuviance --so far-- seems to be elevated a bit in how well it boosts my skin hydration, and long term feel of added moisture. A little dab on the back of my hands before applying moisturizer for the night is quite nice too. Besides the immediate hydrated feel, there is a sense of tightening. My skin is smooth and looks pretty great- and not just for 40 something. I use good skin care, and it does make a difference. So I was a little surprised to feel a slight tightening- not uncomfortable. This mask contains a some dimethicone- a silicone that helps hold in moisture, and also gives skin a silky feel as well as the product itself. My dry skin can handle silicone just fine. Your experience may vary. "Why it works Every day, skin is exposed to the damaging effects of pollution and the environment. Now you can help sleep away the day’s damage and wake to beautiful, restored skin. • Fragrant Sleeping Pack Gel Mask; Has PHAs; Caused Stinging
Not sure what happened to my original review, but here it is, again. I liken the Exuciance Anti-Pollution Renewal Mask to a water-gel sleeping pack you apply to your skin at night to enhance the layered skincare are products' cumulative hydration benefits. But I did not find this mask particularly hydrating or suitable for my use. It smells like cucumbers and lavender (added fragrance) and feels soothing and cool upon application, though I experienced some slight stinging almost immediately. Not sure what caused it, but I have redness where it occurred, even after I applied a moisturizer, which the mask recommends you do. They also have added colorants, yellow-5 and blue-1, to achieve a vibrant minty green color. Adding fragrance and color, to me, make a product come off cheap and poorly formulated. I have sensitive skin. Adding unnecessary scents and dyes can increase the likelihood of irritation. The mask comes in a tiny 1.7oz solid plastic jar with a plastic liner under the lid. Ingredient highlights include PHAs. Polyhydroxy acids — aka PHAs — are chemical exfoliants and are considered 'cousins' of alpha-hydroxy acids, as they are, in fact, second-generation AHAs. The most common PHAs are gluconolactone, galactose, and lactobionic acid. This mask contains both gluconolactone and lactobionic acid. Like AHAs, PHAs work by exfoliating dead skin cells on the surface, resulting in a more even skin tone and texture. It also helps skincare ingredients penetrate deeper into your skin layers, thus boosting their efficacy. But PHAs are supposed to be more gentle and suitable for sensitive skin. Now sure if the PHA had anything to do with the slight irritation I experienced. Be aware: The two prominent ingredients to AVOID when integrating PHAs into your skin routine are vitamin C and retinol. If you mix Vitamin C with PHAs and they are not formulated properly, they may negate the efficacy of both. Retinol, when combined with PHAs, can result in unpredictable irritation. Note, I didn't use any vitamin C or retinol. When I try something new, like this mask, I usually go through a gentle, no-frills, basic non-medicated evening skincare routine. Between the cost, the lack of expected hydration, and the slight irritation I experienced, I don't think this mask is something I would try again. For reference, I have mature (40s), sensitive, combination, acne-prone, congestion-prone, fair skin. I hope this review was helpful. ... show more

  • Did not work well at all in my experience
I'm not sure why, but this mask had the opposite effect on my skin from what it advertised. I have never had such dried out skin after using a skin product, and maybe this was my own unique experience and/or allergic reaction, but I will not be back for this product in future.
