  • Easy set up and low cost EV charging at home
Size: 32A NEMA 14-50
The media could not be loaded. I did not want to have to rely on public charging or my EV, so installing my own system made sense for me. When I looked at options, I decided not to install a unit that was obviously an EV charger. I live in a city with a parking lot visible to anyone and didn't want strangers trying to access it. So instead, I went with a more practical and subtle option. I had an electrician install only an outlet so I could plug in and remove my charge cord as needed. I mounted a junction box next to the plug to house my cord that is only accessible using a combination lock. This cord is 16 feet long, which is plenty long enough to reach my charge port but not so long that it doesn't fit easily into the box. It comes with a storage bag which makes this process easier. The cord plugs easily into the outlet and the LCD screen display provides real time charging and transfer status. The cord is lightweight and flexible compared to others I have used so it's easy to roll it up and store it while not in use. This set up along with this low cost charge cord is a great value. There is an assumption that setting up a home charging infrastructure costs a lot more than it has to. I did this for a few hundred dollars total including installing the plug. It does not have to cost thousands. ... show more

  • A solid choice for someone new to EVs, or as a backup charger
Size: 16A NEMA 6-20
I have been using a Grizzl-e charger for the last 18 months, so know that that is my background perspective. I got this as an portable option for using at a certain friend's house when I go visit so that if I need to charge, I don't have to use the super slow occasional use charger that came with the car. (Yes, I am aware that TECHNICALLY the charger is in the car, and this is only an Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment, or ESVE. Nevertheless, I will refer to this item as a Charger for simplicity) I went ahead and installed the NEMA 6-20 receptacle on a 220v 20 amp dedicated circuit at their place so that I could take advantage of the full 16amp charging speed. (DIY wiring only if capable and at your own risk. Hire a professional as needed) Understand that a simple adaptor will let you plug this charger into a regular household outlet, but those are commonly only rated for 15 amps and may service other things so you will need to charge at the 13A or less. I like the charger and it's carrying case. Everything seems sturdy "enough" for general use, and easy enough for a first time user. The screen has enough information on it, and my opinion after 18 months of EV ownership is that MOST of the time all I REALLY want is to plug in and charge. My car allows me to set different charging speeds (amperage), charging times, etc., so I don't need the charger to be "Smart" with WiFi and such. This provides exactly what I need. Plug in, it starts charging. Not as fast as my home charger, but I can still get 11-14 miles added per hour. I was a little confused at first as I was trying to change the power output while I was charging and couldn't. You have to do that when the unit has power BEFORE you plug it into your car. Overall a pretty nice little charger. Depending on YOUR battery size and how long you have to charge (overnight?) this could easily be your main charger. If you have a larger EV battery and/or limited time to charge, you should probably look into a full Level 2 charger that can do 32-40+amps. This will only charge 42kWh per TWELVE HOURS, AT A FULL 16 AMPS. Know your vehicle and your needs. ... show more

  • Entry level EV charger that gets the job done at 16Amp max, with lower quality, and a 16ft cord.
Size: 16A NEMA 6-20
This 16 Amp Portable EV Charger by Evjuicion, is a very respectable way to get a slower EV charge that’s not going to break the bank. With so many choices in the expanding world of EV chargers, is this a good one and what is it missing? Here are some of the things I’ve learned while owning it and things to consider before buying. I. Quality – The quality on this one is pretty good for the cost, but not even close to a top of the line version. I’d put it in the middle range of the quality scale, making me unsure if it’ll last for a good amount of time, but it definitely could. When you compare this to more expensive chargers, the lower quality is noticeable. II. Usability – It’s very easy to use, being a plug and play type option that allows five charging amp choices. You’ll need a 6-20 plug in order to use it, but they’re easy to install on a 20-amp breaker if needed. The main unit look very generic, but does offer a good amount of data for you to monitor if desired. It’s very easy to choose amperage with the power button to help control your cars needs for juice. The included bag is very cheap and could use some improvements, but it works if you want to bring it along. Other, usually more expensive choices in the EV Charger world might offer a timer to delay starting until rates are less, a 5-15 adapter, longer cord (20-30 Feet), more Amps, and an app to monitor and control things. Overall, this is a very functional, budget friendly option for the 16A and under category. With there being so many choices in the emerging EV charger world, it really comes down to individual needs and desires. If you’re willing to spend the extra money, there are higher quality options that will essentially do the same thing, but look better doing it, have more options, and will probable last longer. Also, some offer 32-50A charging capabilities if your car can handle it, this will charge your car significantly faster and might be a must for some people’s schedule. 16 Amps charges painfully slow for me, but it works just fine for others. I’ll be sure to update this review, if I ever start to have problems with it. You can trust that this review is simply my honest opinion that is attempting to provide you with helpful insight that I wish I had before I picked this product. Hopefully it was helpful in your decision. ... show more
