  • Rise again Evil Dead!
Good decent movie! 5 stars cause the disc worked perfectly but maybe a 4/5 stars movie. A lot of the scenes felt stolen from other scenes like the banging head was right out of hereditary which every horror film has been doing since that movie came out, wether it’s Talk To Me or Longlegs or this. The blood in the elevator was right out of the Shinning. The glass eating scene is probably the only one original to this film. It is what it is tho. Easily my second favorite evil dead film next to evil dead 2 which actually made me become interested in this franchise since 1 wasn’t all that for me. ... show more

  • A gory, good time. And then...
For the most part, if you liked the Evil Dead Remake, you won't find much to hate. The blood effects would make Sam Raimi jealous, the setting is still just as lonely and oppressive as a cabin despite being in the middle of LA and the cast, particularly Lily Sullivan and a downright freaky Alyssa Sutherland, bring their A game and never let the tension fall below an 8 on the crazy scale while still paying off all the little blink-and-you'll-miss-it details that come with this kind of cinematic carnage (yes, those sharp objects tossed aside casually get their chance to get dirty later). Unfortunately, despite the absurd excellence in production value, the script starts with a clear violation of Trey Parker's Screenwriting Rule #1: it has too many sequences seemingly connected in the script by the words "and then". I will explain. In order to put Book #2 (there are three for what I'm assuming is a trilogy) into the hands of the next moron dumb enough prick their fingers to open a book and KEEP GOING, the script forces said moron into a weird mini quest that feels like a lot of forced hoop-jumping for the sake of a 90 minute runtime goal line. As a result, said moron does something no sane person would do AND THEN moves from A to B AND THEN finds a related item of importance AND THEN moves from B to C AND THEN finds the demon book. In the Remake, the moron finds the book and just happens to have the vaguely explained ability to kind of translate it. Still not great, but totally buyable as a way to explain the demon possessed chick who later resides in the cellar. Rise, having no discernable reason for an ancient demon book to make its way into the hands of an idiot with a sound system, resorts to a weirdly out-of-place fetch quest. Verdict time: does this little problem hurt the movie enough to ruin everything? Absolutely not. It still managed to surprise despite the obvious quirks this series is known for and even gave a kind of heartfelt rumination on motherhood (which made the fact that I saw it on Mother's Day both poignant and weird at the same time) and the extents people will go to protect their surrogate children. Look at it this way: "I'll swallow your soul" was belated answered with "Come get some" and I didn't care how long the punch line took because it was delivered by a blood soaked woman with a chainsaw. The movie gave me what I wanted and made me wait through a lot of excellent set pieces to do it. Groovy. ... show more

  • Great movie, but it didn't come with a code.
The movie is great and the case itself came in perfect condition, but for some reason the sheet that is meant to have a redemption code and QR code didn't have either printed on it and is just totally blank. This would be a 5/5 review if it came with the code, but that'll cost it two stars. I got this on a great deal, but if I bought it at full price and it didn't come with the code I'd probably be pretty annoyed. ... show more
