  • Fantastic PSU - Worth every penny
Style: P6 Pattern Name: Supernova Size: 850W
Let me first start off by saying I’ve been building computers for 2 decades. I have experience with this stuff. One major rule of building? Don’t get a cheap heart. PSU = Heart of your build. Things I consider when buying PSUs? Quality, Longevity, Rating, Noise. You cannot go wrong with EVGA components ever. These is a brand that does NOT cheap out, but in return you pay a premium. Is the premium worth it for all their products? Debatable. Is it worth it for PSUs? 100%. This thing is small (140), packs a punch at 850w, and is rated for 80+ platinum. It’s also fully modular, and is future proofed. It can run modern day cards without needing to daisy chain your PCIE 6+2 cables (comes with 4 cables and has 4 individual PCIE/VGA power slots. Currently running an MSI RTX 4080 Trio X and an i7-12700k and have zero issues. The cables that come with it are high quality and have a decent amount of play, not too stiff, meaning you can run them through your case easily. They are also decently long and gave me zero issues with my Hyte Y60 case. Last plus? No noise. This thing has no noise or that sometimes annoying PSU slight chemical smell. The ONLY thing I will tell you to do, is flip the eco mode button on the back to “Off”. Eco mode isn’t reliable with power management on ANY PSU. Enjoy it. Don’t buy garbage, buy this. ... show more

  • Good internals, abysmal fan profile, potential coil whine with modern CPUs
Style: P2 Pattern Name: Supernova Size: 750W
I've had this PSU for close to a year and I haven't encountered any alarming issues with it. It's doing what I need it to do. The unit itself is also built like a tank. Also 10 year RMA is pretty nice. Sadly that's all the praise I can give it. The 750 and 850 models of this unit have terrible fans. They are *loud*. Tomshardware reports that the loudest was around 36 decibels and I find that accurate. If my room is completely silent, I can hear the PSU fan over all the other fans in my PC even 4-5 feet away. I have a box fan going in my room at almost all times and I wear good headphones so luckily I can't hear it at all times. The noise also isn't the fan spinning fast. I keep eco mode off and it sounds like the fan is making a high-pitched whirring. Cheap bearings is what I'm assuming as I've seen multiple cases of the same exact sound on other 750/850 P2s. The fan will also rattle and click-clack occasionally. I've found that putting light pressure on the PSU fan grate is enough to stop the rattling and it only happens every now and then. I'm 99.9% positive it's the fan because turning eco mode on completely eliminates all noise. I've noticed the fan is louder the lower the RPM so it's loudest when idle. Unfortunately, I cannot keep eco mode on because the fan controller is terrible and doesn't turn the fan on fast enough when needed. If you're a gamer, keep eco mode off so the fan stays on at all times otherwise your system will shut down constantly when under heavy load. The P2's heat protection is triggered before the fan can kick on. I wish I had done more research so that I'd know that the 650 P2 has a better fan. I have no idea why EVGA would ruin the 750/850 fan when the 650's fan is apparently perfectly fine. I've also noticed that my unit has coil whine but only when my Ryzen 5 3600 is boosting. It's only a theory but I'm guessing this is similar to older PSU models having coil whine with modern GPUs. I really really don't understand the logic of getting one of the best OEMs out there (Superflower) to make a REALLY GOOD power supply unit only to go with the cheapest possible option on the fan. You potentially have a unit that can last a decade but it will barely last a year because of the cheap fan. This can't be a "force people to buy more PSUs" exploit because they'll just use the 10 year RMA. This level of oversight is baffling. If you really need a unit like this I would say try out the 650 variant or grab the newer G6. ... show more

  • EVGA for the win
Style: P5 Pattern Name: Supernova Size: 850W
I had a no name PSU fail on me and needed another ASAP for my test bench and found this one used open box for a very good price. It arrived looking brand new. Slotted it in and works great! EVGA 10 year warranty is always nice to have too. 5/5

  • Worth the price, fixed my graphics shutdown problem
Style: P3 Pattern Name: Supernova Size: 1000W
The difference between a cheap power supply and a quality one becomes very apparent after replacing my old psu with this one. I recently had a problem in which my monitor shuts down and my GPU fans would go wild whenever I started playing graphics-intensive games. I initially thought it was my graphics card that was the problem but after some research, I figured it might be my old 650-watt psu which may be the problem. I did have some skepticism since 650 watts should theoretically be enough to power newer games, but I decided to change it anyways. After replacing it, my crashing problem is gone entirely. ... show more

  • Fixed issue with new graphics card
Style: P2 Pattern Name: Supernova Size: 1200W
I purchased this power supply because I bought a new Radion RX 6950XT that required an 850Watt power supply. My existing power supply was an old EVGA 750 W bronze rated. My system did boot up with the graphics card in standard bios but in turbo or fast bios My system wouldn't even boot. I didn't buy a top of the line graphics card to run it in standard mode. The price on this PS was not that much higher than gold's rated at about the same wattage. With the new CPU's and GPU's likely having much higher power requirements I wanted some serious widow room. This is a big power supply but I have been noticing a lot of Tech sites post issues With graphics cards That can have high power drawers when overclocked like mine With compact power supplies. With all the new PC technology coming out in the next year I would highly recommend This power supply For a few more bucks. I did buy a top of the line graphics card So pairing it with a cheaper insufficient Power supply did not make sense to me. I like everything about this power supply. The cables Are top quality And you get plenty of them. If you can find a gold rated power supply with the same wattage much cheaper Then I would recommend that. For me it's all about the best value And this power supply was not that much more expensive than a 1200 W gold rated PS. ... show more
