Description

Hearing loss from loud sound affects millions of people, but noise-induced hearing loss is preventable! ER20XS high-fidelity earplugs reduce sound levels while preserving sound quality and clarity. ER20XS earplugs are configured to replicate the natural response of the ear, so sound quality is the same as the original, only quieter. Music, voices and other sounds are clear--not muffled --making ER20XS ideal for concerts, clubs, festivals, raves, theaters, aircraft, construction, yard work, airshows, parades, and athletic or motorsports events. The new low-profile, stem-less design fits snugly in the outer ear without protruding, making ER20XS comfortable to wear under hats, helmets, and other headgear. The standard-size eartips fit the majority of ears. ER20XS earplugs are reusable, but with repeated use, the eartips may lose elasticity. For best performance and retention, if you use your ER20XS earplugs frequently, replace the eartips every 3-6 months. ER20XS are not recommended for use with impulse noises such as gunfire, or for sleeping. Not intended for shooting.

  • Excellent hearing protection while still hearing sound you want
Style: Standard Fit
I use these for concerts and put them in before it starts, and leave them in until it’s over and these are great. They prevent tinnitus or any kind of hearing issue after the concert is over, you were fully protected. You can still hear the concert perfectly and even better they drown out your concert neighbor’s screams and singing. When the people around you talk during the show it’s hard to hear them but you can make out what they say if you want to. And the concert has quite good sound. I wore them to a rock concert that was shaking the brick building and sidewalk outside during sound check and after the concert was over my ears were perfect. I enjoyed the show with no discomfort and happy with the sound and even talked to the band during (and heard their reply to me, the guitarist came out into the crowd). Very nice! Only thing is, they do hurt while they are in. It goes away as soon as you take them out, I am playing with adjusting them better but I think it’s just the design and hardness of the base plastic. It’s not a huge deal, they do feel like they go in kind of deep. I will always keep these on hand for concerts and replace them often. Love them. Absolutely better than foam ones for concerts but my daughter finds them uncomfortable enough that she prefers foam, she has had a ruptured ear drum and is always sensitive about her ears. She claims her cheap foam ones give the same result for her, but I use both and think these are way better if you can tolerate the feel of them. I personally love these. ... show more

  • Generic fit, but works great!
Style: Standard Fit
After never owning high-fidelity earplugs before, these are leaps and bounds better than standard foam earplugs. I am able to pick up much more balanced sound from music, and it's easier to have a conversation with others. The generic sizing and shaping isn't a perfect fit and can be a bit itchy, but it's hard to argue with the price and how well they work. ... show more

  • Fantastic Noise Reduction and Comfortable
Style: Standard Fit
I recently purchased the Etymotic Research ER20XS High-Fidelity Earplugs, and I'm amazed by their performance. These earplugs excel at blocking out dangerous highs and lows, making them perfect for concerts, airplanes, motorcycles, and other loud environments where hearing damage is a concern. They are also great for individuals with sensitivity or those who need universal hearing protection. One of the standout features of these earplugs is their ability to filter out high-pitched and low-pitched noises while still allowing for clear conversations. They are discreet and almost invisible when worn, and the fact that they are reusable makes them a cost-effective choice at around $20. While the comfort level is slightly uncomfortable, it's bearable and doesn't significantly impact the overall experience. The sizes provided fit well for me, and I found them more comfortable than Apple AirPods. Comfort is only a minor aspect compared to the exceptional performance these earplugs deliver. The noise reduction capability of the ER20XS earplugs is nothing short of magical. They excel in noisy environments, and using them has made me feel less drained and more refreshed, especially as an introvert. I would rate the noise reduction at 4.5 out of 5 since they effectively block out full noises while still allowing clear perception of middle-range sounds, which is their intended purpose. In terms of build quality, these earplugs are compact and come in a cool rubber case. However, opening the case requires some care as it can easily come undone. The overall build quality is decent, though I wish there was a more effective way to clean the earpieces, as they can become unhygienic after extended use. Personally, I've used these earplugs in various settings like social events, parties, concerts, airplanes, and even while riding a motorcycle, and I've never been disappointed. They consistently provide a fantastic experience and continue to protect my hearing. Overall, the Etymotic Research ER20XS High-Fidelity Earplugs are a great investment for anyone seeking effective noise reduction without compromising clarity of conversation. They may be slightly uncomfortable, but their exceptional noise reduction capabilities, discreet design, and reasonable price make them a top choice in the market. ... show more

  • Excellent Frequency Response and Volume Reduction
Style: Standard Fit
Let me start off by saying reducing volume evenly across the entire audible spectrum would cost thousands of dollars. Systems that use microphones, mechanisms to detect and attenuate sounds above a certain threshhold, and in-ear amplification, will come the closest, but they are in a much higher price bracket. This review compares these Etymotics with tech of comparable cost. Specifically, I have used normal earplugs, Hearos plugs from the late 1990’s, normal over-ear hearing protection, and over-ear hearing protection with a microphone/volume control set-up. These all range from a few dollars to about $60. These products are all effective in reducing volume of very loud sounds to safer levels. The problem is that they reduce the sound very unevenly. All of them either kill the treble response, or make the bass response very muddy, or both. The over-ear with mic/volume has a delay between detection of the loud sound, and reproduction of the sound into the ear, so the resulting sound is unnatural and “out-of-synch.” The Etymotics provide by far the most even reduction in sound across all frequencies. They preserve really nice clarity of the treble, and the bass frequencies do not get muddy. There is a “scooped” sound, i.e. the midrange frequencies are reduced more than the treble. That being said, the overall balance between all frequencies is very pleasing to the ear, especially compared to the other products. And in terms of reducing sound to safe levels, they are very effective. I purchased them because I practice piano in a fairly bright room, and was getting ringing in my ears after practice sessions; the ringing completely went away after I started using the Etymotics. I would highly recommend them for music practice. ... show more
