I bought this to replace a lighter Estwing rubber mallet that finally bit the dust. I was disappointed when I first got it because it felt too heavy to be useful for what I needed (I mostly build furniture and do light remodeling). After wrapping the handle with hockey stick tape to give it a better grip, I took it with me to do a remodeling job that involved a lot of tearing out. I discovered that this mallet works great with a flat bar. I never liked the clanging of a hammer against the flat bar. This mallet has enough heft to bury the flat bar in whatever I'm needing to pry out, but it's quiet enough that I was able to work when other people were still in bed. This is a nice rubber hammer that is pretty durable. We got it for installing laminate flooring. It doesn’t mark the floor and doesn’t leave marks when you hit the flooring. Plus it’s made in USA which is a definitely better than the ones made in china. It was a good value for the price.

I use this mallet with wood chisels for work on smaller items where a large wooden mallet obscures my view or is otherwise difficult to use. This one is just the right size, shape, and weight for that purpose, and is well balanced.
