I have used this seed starting mix by itself in small pots - works way better than conventional stuff. I also fill pots with organic soil, add a layer of this starter and allow seeds to start and continue to grow in the pots. Now I'm going to experiment in the garden by creating small spaces, fill w this starter mix and seed directly into the garden. Good stuff. ... show more

    • Just OK, there are better options
As a first time gardener, I was not sure which seed starter mix to use so I bought two. The other one was "Jiffy Natural & Organic Seed Starting Soil Mix". I planted an equal number and variety of vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, cukes, cantaloupe), and the Jiffy definitely out performed the other. I used heating pads with both and the only difference was I used two different seed starter trays/domes, though I don't see how that would have been a factor. The seedlings in the Jiffy mix grew taller faster. After the seedlings were able to be replanted into 4 inch peat pots, I planted additional seeds with Miracle Gro Seed Starter. This mix performed as well as the Jiffy, maybe a tad better. Next year I will do half Jiffy and half Miracle Gro. ... show more
