  • Worked Well to Improve Grass Growth Under Pine Tree
Size: 6.75-Pound
I have a huge pine tree in my front yard with bluegrass underneath it. A couple decades of pine cones and needles made the ground under the tree canopy rather acidic, so the grass was yellowing and patchy in places even though I clean up regularly. I applied 3 bags over the course of 2 summers to increase the pH. It worked quite well and the bluegrass under the tree now looks the same as bluegrass in other areas. Pros: - Round, pelletized form is easy to spread. I used a Scott's Handygreen handheld fertilizer spreader. The pellets are about the same size as the Styrofoam pellets in a beanbag chair. - The lime seems to disburse at a reasonable speed. I didn't notice any ill effects on the grass, even after applying 2 bags in one summer. Cons: - None yet. - It's not a reflection on the product, but the Amazon price is all over the map. I've paid $4.50 per bag with free shipping but I've seen it priced all the way up to $15 per bag. I recently switched to purchasing lime at Lowe's for about $5 for a 40# bag. ... show more

  • Great for Container Gardens
Size: 6.75-Pound
I container garden since my backyard is completely cement. This is my third year attempting a container garden, and I hit it right on this year!!! I learned as much as I could about fertilizer this year, as my previous 2 years resulted in stunted growth, limited produce, and bug infestations. I started my seeds inside about 6 weeks early in a mix of peat, perlite, and biotone. I had been using 5 gallon buckets for all my big plants in the past, but this year I invested in 5 - 15 gallon fabric pots and 5 - 10 gallon fabric pots. I kept my 5 gallon buckets for basil, kale, a cucumber, and a fingerling potato I threw in from my compost bucket. I put 3 tomatoes, 2 eggplants, and various peppers in the fabric pots (one per pot). The Happy Frog seemed like the fertilizer analysis I needed to start these so I mixed this into my dirt. To make my dirt, I mixed about 1/4 old dirt from last year, peat, perlite, vermiculite, Dr. Earth compost, cow manure, and worm castings. Along with the Happy Frog Tomato and Veg, I added: Crab Meal (Neptune's Harvest) Bone Meal Azomite Epsom Salt Blood Meal (not much) BioTone (in the hole at planting) Garden Lime And that's it! My plants look AMAZING!! I am the envy of all my neighbors!!! I have been side dressing with Jobe's Tomato and Vegetable granular (I like the lower nitrogen), Neptune's Harvest Fish & Seaweed, and Dr. Earth Bud & Bloom Liquid (only use this last one on flowering veggies) and epsom salt (they need that magnesium and sulfur to absorb the calcium in the bone meal and crab meal). We have had the cloudiest and rainiest spring in years here in the Northeast (Pittsburgh, PA) but my tomatoes have already outgrown their cages. I'm trying to figure out what to do when the sun comes back! So glad I only grew 3 tomato plants this year!!! They are covered in baby green tomatoes, just waiting for the sun to ripen!!! ... show more

  • Great soil additive, improves plants overall
Size: 6.75-Pound
Definitely helped out my clay soil last year. I moved to an area that has loam type soil, very nice stuff. My plants aren't growing as great where I'm at now as they were in the area that had clay soil. I had put some of this on the soil and some basic fertilizer. The plants grew really well after that. In the place I'm at now I have used the same fertilizer but without the same results. This definitely gives the soil a nice boost. Seems like it helped my sunflowers grow taller, thicker and with more vibrant colors than they do now. The roots on the plants that grew in the soil with this additive were quite strong. When they died off in the fall last year, it took quite a bit to get them out of the ground. Most of them would not let go of the soil. The roots were also very thick and they looked great, not diseased like they did the year before. This stuff is great for plants. The color is improved 10 times at the least. Very vibrant. And the veggies are plump and delicious. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is a small bag. I wish I had more to use in one bag. It also didn't last into the next season. It's a one season additive from what I noticed. But I really do like the stuff. ... show more

  • Great product but package arrived cut open
Size: 6.75-Pound
This stuff worked great for my garden last year (bought it at lowes that time), so I bought more because of the low price on here... the package arrived at my house cut open. Looked to be slit open diagonally. I don't know if this was amazon or the post office inspecting the package and they forgot to tape it back up or if a thief came to my porch and cut it open to see what it was before deciding not to steal it? Idk. Maybe i should get a security camera. :s the item seems alright though so its fine. lol. thanks! ... show more

  • Great for your hydrangeas!
Size: 6.75-Pound
I have been using Espoma garden additives for years and just added this one this year for my hydrangeas that are pink. I wanted to add this to the soil to see if it would enrich the pink color of my flowers on a new hydrangea. It is too early to tell how well it is working but I will be using it to brighten up my pink flowering hydrangea shrubs! ... show more

  • Easy to Use, Good Packaging, Thanks Espoma!
Size: 6.75-Pound
I have purchased this garden lime twice from Amazon in 2014 and 2016. At that time the prices were $4.98 and $4.89, respectively, with free shipping. I see that it is not currently available from Amazon directly, and is currently being sold for over $11. Hopefully Amazon will get more in stock eventually and it will be back to its "normal price". I will usually mix in about 1/4 cup of this into the planting hole (along with some organic/all-natural fertilizer) for plants that like their soil a little sweeter (and less acidic). I don't know how much it works. I'm sure it does. I've just never conducted an experiment to see the difference with and without lime. This is really easy to use with nice size pellets and not too much dust. The bag is also nice with a zipper top to close after use. ... show more

Size: 6.75-Pound
I'm only giving this 3 stars. I was conflicted between giving it 2 stars and 3 stars but then realized it's not that serious. I bought it to help neutralize the smell of dog urine outside. It does in fact work great! I'm only giving it 3 stars though because it only costs $5 at Home Depot and LOWES for the same size bag. ... show more
