  • The best one out there right now, but prepare to pay up!
Style: MAX 360 Pattern Name: Radar Detector
Scoot over Valentine One, there's a new Sheriff in town and thanks to arrows on the new Escort Max 360, we know what direction he's coming from now. I have been loyal to Escort lroducts because they make high quality products I'm happy with their customer service when I've had a problem. I upgraded from the Escort 9500ix and before that I owned the X50. the 9500ix was a great detector for its time but it has since been retired, because it's lost its reliability to accurately notify you of the more modern threats. With door openers and motion detectors, active cruise control systems and the the plethora of interference the 9500ix won't shut up. Sometimes I wonder if it should be renamed to GM SUV detector instead. I bought the Max 360 for the sole purpose of the GPS lockout enhancements. I live on a corner lot and there is a speed sign operating on the Kband frequency about 2 blocks down the road, and every time I started my car the 9500ix would sound off every time, for about 45 seconds to a minute until the device booted up and the GPS filters came online. With the Max 360 this is no longer an issue, as soon as the device powers up the display shows the filtered Kband frequency (displayed grayed out) but is now silent! The Max 360 puts you back in the game with upgraded DSP and dual antennae, directional arrows are a Godsend, there is a ton of customization options. I love that I can change the display color to Match my dash lights, and I love the look of the scanning bar on the colorful OLED display. Range detection has doubled for me compared to my 9500ix while false alarms are still there but are very quickly processed and silenced. I've had this detector for about 4 months now and you can easily tell when it's a real threat. A typical false alert is on K band where a quick chirp, a single bar shows then in 2 or 3 seconds it disappears and goes back on to scanning mode. Changing settings is a breeze but to truly manage the Max 360 and see all of the settings I recommend downloading the Escort live App and using that to tweak it.Don't however use it for navigation , use Waze instead. Waze is far more powerful with its millions of users comparef to inly thousands on Escort live. As far as range goes, I can detect that speed sign I previously mentioned from 2 1/2 miles away with the Max 360, whereas the 9500ix has about a 1 mile detection range-- and I'm not talking about country roads folks, this is a busy suburban city with lots of signal interference. One thing that I would like to point out, there is an intersection I drive by every day to get to the main roads and I get a weak false Ka alert, when I attempt to lock it out, (pressing mute button 3 times) I can only silence it, it will not store the false Ka alert , whereas K and X bands are easily locked out. I'm not sure why we can't lockout Ka false alarms, but hopefully that will be fixed with some firmware updates. Laser Detection is just okay: Until today I hadn't really experienced a Laser alert, it was quite loud and distinctly different .Once I heard the sound and looked up it displayed the words "LASER" the arrows in all directions flashing, I did not see any police vehicles at any time during or after the laser alert but that doesn't mean there wasn't a threat. Another thing I've noticed: sometimes I get a laser alert when there are emergency vehicles in the vicinity or directly ahead of me with the overhead lights engaged , I'm not sure what this means but something I thought I should share. Laser is the most dangerous of the all, if your detector goes off for a laser it's already to late. Good news about laser is the cop has to be standing outside or have their window rolled down to use it (with the exception of motorcycle cops) so you shouldn't worry too much about Lidar if the weather is bad. Lazy pigs would rather use the radar built into the police cruiser wh ed not it's raining I'm sure. Finally placement of your detector is very important, some will say up high, others day down low on the dash. From my experience, up high out of sight has yielded the best results for me, because A) the birds eye view adds for maximum range detection, and B) crooks and cops can't see it as easily. If you have a power dimming mirror I suggest purchasing a mirror tap cable and eliminating that tacky "look at me" cigarette lighter power cord as it attracts too much attention. The last thing you want is for your $650 radar detector to get stolen or get hassled by a cop just for noticing the detector smack dab in the center of the windshield. The whole purpose of the detector is disappear, it is a powerful countermeasure when installed properly, so do it right the first time. Features: this is where the Max 360 really stands out, the internal hardware has been slightly improved upon over the Passport Max and Max 2, most notably the ability to filter out the ever increasing issue of collision avoidance and blind spot monitoring systems, and active cruise control in newer vehicles. Even with the latest firmware (1/12/16) this has NOT been totally resolved yet, even with the Arm chip and the upgraded DSP, I still receive many false K alerts, but the speed in which the Max 360 processes and eliminates the false signals has been improved significantly when compared to the 9500ix, and just somewhat over the Passport Max and the Max 2. If you're still using a 9500ix or X50 , then then whip out the credit card baby, or better learn to start driving the speed limit again. ... show more

  • Escort Max 360 vs Escort Redline - A Heavy Driver's Comparison
Style: MAX 360 Pattern Name: Radar Detector
This is a short word on this radar detector and why I think it's one of the best you can get. I have 2 primary vehicles that I drive- one of them is equipped with the Escort Redline and one is equipped with this Escort Max 360. My vehicle with the Escort Redline used to have the Valentine 1, but I liked the Redline more so I upgraded. The Escort Redline is a great radar detector and was the benchmark that I compared all other radar detectors to. So if you can't tell, I really like the Escort Redline- but the Max 360 has since dethroned it as my favorite radar detector of all time. 1) Directional Notification- the Max 360 tells me where the radar signal is coming from. If I'm crushing down the interstate and I am approaching an on-ramp and the Max 360 tells me a radar signal is coming from the right, I know to slow down immediately. If I'm on a stretch of road and the radar alert comes from the rear, I know I have more time to slow down if the nearest car is way back or I've just topped a hill. The directional warning is supremely helpful in knowing how quickly to slow down or if you need to slow down at all- you don't realize how useful it is until you use it. Directional identification is absent on the Redline and much more inaccurate on the Valentine 1. 2) GPS Memory- the Max 360 knows when the radar goes off in the same spot every day and can smartly identify stores and gas stations that set it off. The 4th time I passed a Publix that always sets radar detectors off due to the motion sensing doors, a subtle beep sounded with the word "Stored" on the screen. The radar has never gone off in front of this Publix again. A few weeks later a cop had radar set up in front of this same Publix. The Max 360 went off and I thought it was picking up the store again until I got closer and saw the cop car. So it's smart enough to learn locations but not miss a new radar signature in a previously stored area- no idea how it does that. 3) Antennas- the Max 360 has MUCH better rear and side detection than the Redline. Not even a contest. The Redline might have a slightly longer front detection (10-15% it seems) but the Max 360 mops the floor with the Redline from the rear and sides- I'd say double the detection range if not more. The detection range from all sides with the Max 360 provides more than ample time to stop- with the Redline, that's only the case with the front detection. 4) Displayed Information- the Max 360 has a much nicer display than the Redline, with animated pulsating marks, and it matches most car instrument gauges much better. The Max 360 also shows your current speed, which it uses GPS to calculate. It's spot-on with my speedometer and it has never lost GPS signal. Due to the Max 360 having an actual LCD panel, the settings are easier to navigate and setup. The Redline doesn't show any useful information except what radar band is detected. 5) Sound- the Max 360 alert sounds are leaps beyond the Redline. The voice is a higher clarity, the alarms are not as harsh-sounding, and the auto-muting/volume reduction feature works WAY better. 6) General Aesthetics- the Max 360 simply looks better than the Redline in my opinion. It is slightly larger but the finish seems to be higher quality, the improved LCD display looks MUCH better, and the design simply melds with the interior of most cars better. 7) False Warnings- the Max 360 RARELY gives false warnings and when it does, it learns to not repeat them over time. As in my above Publix example, my Redline still goes off to this day in front of Publix while the Max 360 does not. I can't tell you how many times the Redline is set off by radar-based cruise control systems on the interstate while the Max 360 isn't phased by them. Redline gives probably 75% more false warnings than the Max 360, and that's likely a conservative number. I considered the Escort Redline one of the best radar detectors on the market for many years- and it still is, just not as good as the Max 360. After extensive use of both (around 100,000 miles with the Redline and about 80,000 with the Max 360) I'm confident in the accuracy of my comparison between the two- however, keep in mind that I've done no scientific studies on either, I've just used them as a heavy driver would. The only area where the Redline slightly beats the Max 360 is in frontal detection range but in all other categories, the Max 360 is the best product Escort currently offers. I've just ordered a second Max 360 for my vehicle with the Redline in it and I look forward to its arrival. ... show more

  • Better detection than my whistler cr90 and escort S55 by
Style: MAX 360 Pattern Name: Radar Detector
Better detection than my whistler cr90 and escort S55 by 400ft over the cr90 and 200ft over S55 around a curve, nice!! Also this version has very quick acting arrows which from reviews by Vortex had me worried over the V1 but they have followed every radar source very accurately so I'm very pleased with the arrows performance, no delay! Escort live is basic but it is helpful in setting up the detector and I do like when it's hooked up to Bluetooth the alerts come through the speakers in all three of my vehicles. Very expensive but be careful I noticed that once I bought mine from Amazon as they raised the price by $70.00 the next day so be patient and watch the pricing and see if it drops daily before buying, buyer beware! Could I have waited and purchased mine for even less not sure but at $535.00 a much better deal than the $580.00-$650.00 elsewhere. Almost too many options for setup but in just over 300 miles of travel this is an expensive detector but so far appears to be a good/great detector. Just learned this is a new version the serial number starts with 85.... with updated Bluetooth chip and the firmware is now 1.0 for this serial number group so don't try downloading update 3 times like I did to get to 1.5 for the older 79.... series detectors. Database update is free for first year for 360 and make sure to buy from Amazon not a second party as you may not get update for free and the factory warranty!! ... show more
