    • Stylish and warm, but so-so quality

I bought this for a winter European trip and I didn't have time to try on coats at a store. I'm from a mild climate, anyway, so who knows what would have been on the shelves. I wanted something fashionable and warm, so decided to take a chance on this one. First, I loved the fit. It's very flattering. The collar is a bit stiff but it did eventually fold neatly. The belt reminded me a little bit of a bathrobe, but it also is nice to huge the waist. I'm a little heavier than I used to be, so I do feel that a belt is necessary to keep a good silhouette. Second, the length is great! It may be a tad bit too long for more homely areas. For example, it was great in Venice but when I was traveling in Bosnia & Herzegovina I felt I stood out a little too much--a lot of those bubble down coats over there. It could have also been the color, a lighter tan--black or dark grey may have worked better. Third, this coat was so warm! It was absolutely perfect for most of my trip. Maybe not so much in extremely cold places, but for the purposes of tromping through snowy inland areas in the Balkans, I stayed warm. Fourth, this coat held up in drizzle and light rain. I didn't test it in a rainstorm, but it works for general urban wear. Fifth, one downside is that the fabric started piling within the first week. It's an easy fix--just take a safety razor to remove the fuzzies--but that tells me the quality isn't great. Sixth, one more downside is that, for whatever reason, the color of my black jeans rubbed off on the inside of the coat? I'm sure my jeans weren't the best quality, but I've never seen that happen before. Anyway, that's another reason to purchase this coat in black instead of tan. Seventh, I probably could have gone up a size. My shoulders didn't have a full range of motion. However, I also didn't want to be swimming in the fabric, so I'm happy with my size choice. Finally, the biggest indicator of poor quality--the buttons are clearly plastic. I'd like to replace them with better buttons at some point, when I have time, but they were functional, I guess. I just received the coat today, and am very impressed with the quality, details and style of this coat. The wine/red coat is a beautiful color. It is darker than a red, but a little lighter than a wine or burgundy color, just beautiful. I am 5’4” and weigh 157 lbs. and I bought the extra large. It fits beautifully, I could have bought the large, but I wanted to be able to comfortably wear a sweater underneath and not be constricted. The coat has a nice weight to it and it felt like it will be warm. There was a $20 clip coupon, so I feel like I received a bargain besides a beautiful coat. ... show more

This coat arrived quickly and I was pleasantly surprised by its quality. You know how buying things on Amazon can be a roll of the dice—well this coat passes the test. It feels the same kind of quality as winter coats I’ve bought at Macy’s. It’s got the nice heat of a wool coat, and a good lining. It’s summer now, so I can’t really attest to it’s warmth during winter, but wearing it for short times now, it heats up fast. Love the color. It’s pretty close to what you see in the photos. I typically wear size L (10-12), off the rack, regular clothes. I ordered the coat in Large and it fits well. I can button all the buttons. It’s a little snug around my chest, but that’s normal for me. The buttons on mine seem fine, i don’t have the issue other reviewers reported about loose buttons, so that’s luck of the draw. I bought this coat for my daughter and when she received it. It had a used kleenex hand sanitizer and lotion in the pockets. And she has to return it this should just be created back to my account and she can throw away the coat or donate it. So disgusting and disappointing.

update: I've had this coat for a few months now, and the buttons have all started coming really loose; one of the ones on the cuff completely detached. I have to spend a lot of money at the tailor getting all the buttons reinforced. In addition, it's starting to pile in some places, which points to cheap fabric. original review: As other reviews have said, this really is a beautiful coat. It's heavier than I expected, in a good way. I was imagining something rather flimsy for the price but was happily surprised. The color is a nice deep wine, not too much red, but I suppose that's a bit subjective. I'm 5'2" and the coat fits me nicely; the sleeves are just right. It hits me below the knee, but that's actually what I wanted. The one slight weakness is that the buttons aren't on all that securely, so I imagine in a few years I'll be bringing this to the alterations guy to have them tightened a bit, but the good thing is that you could just easily wear this as a wrap without having to fuss with the buttons much, so perhaps they'll last longer than I imagine. ... show more
