  • Good for intended use...
These are high speed steel. Not carbide. They are great for aluminium. I have had excellent results with my LMS 3990 High torque mini mill. However, I had a steel milling requirement, and no carbide bit. After facing 30 square inches, four or five passes, my four flute 3/4 bit wore out and started throwing sparks. Not the fault of the bit. I finished the job with the two flute. I have since bought a carbide bit. I will also buy a new set of these, because the whole set costs about what the one carbide bit cost. ... show more

  • Good cheap set.
This set seems decent. As a home hobbyist getting set up I feel this is a good general purpose starter set. I really like the wooden box which makes for convenient storage. The box is poor quality, in fact the bottom and mill holding block was busted off upon arrival even though it was all shrink wrapped. No big deal, I epoxied it back together and nailed it with a few brads for insurance, good as new. The box protected the end mills during shipping and provides great storage and protection. The manufacturer could have easily made some brittle plastic box that would shatter, I'm glad they chose wood. Plus it's like you are opening a treasure chest which is always a nice warm fuzzy feeling. As far as the quality of the end mills themselves I've been working with aluminum and have no issues so far. For steel I have been using some second hand end mills and to preserve these ones for my aluminum work. I also keep things oiled while cutting. I have found rubbing greasy pizza on the material is not the best choice though. ... show more

  • Held up to my abuse...
These End Mills are sufficiently hard and sharp for general use. With care they will last. Only had one dull out on what turned out to be tool steel. I will buy more if/when these wear out because of the great price for a full set!

  • Not the best deal.
These are the standard Chinese end mills, just like Harbor Freight's, except the "box" is cheap, I mean cheap, wood and uses a paper like insert to hold the mills. My next purchase of them will be at Harbor Freight or I will buy the Prime available end mills. The end mills are all from the same source seemingly so the quality is good for the price. With these you pay shipping and get an inferior, throw away, box. Looks like a good deal but you end up paying about the same without a convenient way to organize the end mills. ... show more

  • Great
I only write reviews for exceptionally good deals. These are surprisingly so good. I bought this set as a cheap backup so I wouldn't have to wait for a replacement in case any of my very expensive name brand end mills unexpectedly broke. Many of my name brand end mills have broken or worn out and needed to be replaced. To my surprise, these cheapos have suffered far worse abuse and remain in pristine condition. Somehow they are of far better quality and I now prefer them over the mills which individually cost as much as this whole set. ... show more

  • Harbor Freight crap at below Harbor Freight price.
This is exactly the set sold at Harbor Freight. Identical packaging and everything. 5 stars is not to in anyway speak to the quality or usability of these end mills. 5 stars reflects that it is the same set that Harbor Freight retails for $79, and I got it for $30 less. Read other reviews for comments on their quality and application, I just got them to screw around with while I learn how to use my mill assuming I will break them all. I have no previous experience with machining and cannot compare them to anything else. That said, if Harbor Freight crap is good enough for you, then this is even better. ... show more

  • Would have gave 5 stars at this price but the box literally fell apart !
I would have gave 5 stars at this price but the box fell apart ! The wooden case is so shoddy that it literally falls apart under it's own weight. The hinges are paper thin metal and the top and bottom wood laminate feels like thin wood bark falling apart ...and did fall apart. The finger joints were not glued and the whole thing was just coming apart. Wasted time and a plastic box probably would have been cheaper to supply. C'mon Shars ! As for the cutters, they work fine in Aluminum I bought them for , I have some other cutters for steel. It's a good price for a set of cutters for Aluminum and at this price it's a good deal . I had to glue the finger joints, wrap the whole box in fiberglass mesh and coat it with resin, inside and out ...then replaced the hinges with nylon straps epoxied on and Velcro straps to keep the front shut...hack job but now it's a solid case. Kind of a pita . Decent set otherwise ... show more

  • Great value
Good all around set. I work in a shop that occasionally uses the mill, no production level stuff. These work perfect for what I need. I have only run them on mild steel, aluminum, wood, and plastic. No issues at all.
