  • The best value
Size: NEMA 14-50 Plug J1772 (BLK)
I researched many different types of Level 2 chargers and decided that this was the best bang for your buck. I was 100% right. I opted for the Nema 15-40 charger for it's flexibility. 40amps is plenty fast enough for my family and probably for most people, but if youre constantly on the go then maybe hardwiring is better to get closer to 48. We installed it on a 50A outlet as recommended by manufacturer. According to the app I'm actually getting between 38 and 39 amps (9.2kWh) which brought me from 50-80% in about 2 hours. For comparison with my Level 1, that I was using for a couple weeks prior, I was getting 1kWh on the 12A setting (120v). Very slow. 4-5 milers per hour. This is a welcome change. The app is extremely useful. Paired with the Hyundai Bluelink app, i can control and view everything about my charging experience (timelines, rates, cost etc). I particularly liked that it gives you your cost per kWh based on your location. My actual cost is 11 cents per kWh for off peak and 14 cents during peak. The app rated me at 13.5 cents which will give me a very accurate estimate of what to expect (probably a little high, which i actually prefer). The graphs are very cool to view (nerd) and seeing the consistency in charge delivery gives peace of mind. The charging cord is plenty long enough- if i wanted to pull it out of the garage and charge in my driveway I could. I ended up not installing the hangar for the charger because it sticks out so far into the garage but for those with larger garages or just 1 car it's a very useful addition. The EVSE itself is high quality and very durable. Installation was straightforward and it was paired with the app in 30 seconds (wifi required). Overall, it was the best value charger out there with fast homr delivery and a high charging rate. Some chargers that do the same as this one (or less) cost $100+ more and for what? Just happy to throw the Level 1 in the trunk and forget about it. Edit (a few weeks after purchase)** I forgot my car settings are set to only accept 90% of the AC current so it could actually charge a bit faster. I have no real reason to set it to 90% but I'm new to EVs and want my car/charger to last as long as possible. I've charged it from 30% to 100% and the charger/cable isn't even warm. Incredible product- even better than when I wrote the original review. ... show more

  • Works perfectly right out of th box
Size: NEMA 14-50 Plug J1772 (BLK)
I’m using this for a Lexus plug in hybrid suv. The unit is well packaged and all parts were as described. The instructions are very clear and concise. I wanted to use the old dryer plug in the garage but discovered that the plug was from the 1960s and was no longer permitted to be used. Also the wires were 10 gauge and we wanted 8 gauge to be safer. So we decided to run a new circuit from the breaker box. This allowed us to place a plug in a more accessible location with a place to install the charger nearby. Once installed the charger has worked perfectly. The cord rack is sturdy and attaches to the bottom of the charger. I like the way the handle hooks to the charger. The 24 ft cord is ample. The app is great. It keeps track of how many kw I’ve charged. I set the charger to stop charging at 9pm because I have solar roof and I’m on battery power until 9pm to avoid high evening electricity rates. This is a handy feature of the charger. I recommend this without reservation. ... show more

  • Some initial problems but working great
Size: NEMA 14-50 Plug J1772 (WH)
It can be hard wired but it was not designed for this. As another reviewer stated it has to be wired with a flexible conduit as the screws to attach the front cover insert from the rear. Very difficult to get at. Also there is very little room to work with stiff #6 AWG wire to get it into the terminals. I had to get a Baomain crimper and connectors as I was unable to get the bare wires into the clamps. Hardwiring does allow you to go to 48 amps on a 60 amp breaker but the increase from 40 amps using the plug is probably not worth the effort. If you're a DIYer who has done any wiring you can do this alone. Hard wired I do get the full 11.5 KW so charging is quick. The first time I used it, it worked fine. The second time it stopped charging after an hour. I unplugged it then reconnected it and it finished the charge. The third time it wouldn't charge at all. I called their tech support and the tech connected to it over the internet. His first effort was to upgrade the firmware, which took less than a minute. It's worked perfectly since. The app works great. Easy to set up and configure. Very versatile as to monitoring charging. You can enter your rate per kWh and it will tell you the cost for all your electricity used. I live in an area with a very low off peak rate (5.15¢/ kWh) so it costs me 1.5¢/mile to operate my Ioniq 6. Very happy with this unit and really appreciate the lower price compared to other brands. ... show more
