Features

  • Allows players to boost the midrange and volume of a single coil pickup to give it a sound similar to a humbucker
  • This effect is achieved by boosting gain in a broad mid-band fashion and reducing highs as you turn the knob up
  • The result is a fatter, louder tone from any single coil pickup
  • Can also be used with a humbucker to increase your overall volume and midrange for a really fat tone
  • A great addition for slide guitars

Description

The SPC or "Strat Presence Control" is often called the fat control. The original intent of the SPC was to turn the tone of a single-coil pickup into a dual-coil. This is accomplished by boosting the gain in a broad mid-band fashion and reducing the highs. The result is a fatter, louder tone from any single coil pickup, but you can also use it on a humbucking to give you a high output, really fat tone that's great for slide guitar.

  • It works. Fattens up the tone and adds just the right amount of gain
I have this unit in three different guitars. Love it. Unfortunately, I've had two of them go bad and had to replace them. Even so, it works very well and I recommended it.

  • Wonderful
The SPC is a wonderful device. Gives a slighly nasaly tone without the hash that can happen with other peices of equipment. A good bit of a level boost, but not unmanageable.

  • Disappointing
Didn’t work in my strat at all. Barely adds gain, mids or volume. Instead it adds mud and buzz and makes the sound flubby - very odd.

  • Not standard connections at all.
I have this mid boost in an EMG DG20 Strat pickguard assembly and it works very well. I bought this one to put in another "strat" guitar. It does NOT have terminals to solder to, just proprietary EMG plugins. I have wired dozens of guitars and could not figure out how to wire this in. I had to send it back. Again, it is a good mid-boost for EMG systems. If you want to put it in a regular Strat, good luck. ... show more

  • emg spc start presence control knob
I guess you are supposed to use this on a start with single coil pickups so maybe my three stars are not fair but I used it on a les Paul with emg 81/60 pickups to try to take some often high bite out of the 81 it works but I think it sounds the same as my emg active tone control but 55.00 higher maybe with single coils it might make them sound like hummbuckers ... show more

  • EMG SPC
I have installed the EMG SPC in many Strats, usually with non EMG/Active pickups. This one worked out fine and sounds great. One thing I noticed is EMG now includes a modular wiring harness with this one which is designed to be used with the EMG pickup systems. It's merely plug-n-play with little to no soldering with EMG's. Problem is the instructions included NOW don't show how to wire to a standard passive hardwired Strat system, so I took a point off. I also noticed one reviewer couldn't figure it out and returned it. The solution is to go to the EMG website and view/download the instructions (PDF diagram). On the bottom of the unit each pin is marked input, output, ground, (ect). The website diagram shows colors instead of names but there is a pic in the first diagram showing what each color equates. RED= +, BLACK= ground, WHITE= input, GREEN= output. A little confusing but you'll get it. Just plug the modular end into the SPC and cut the other ends off of the ones you need to solder. On my Strat it was all but the ones for the battery clip (+ and one of the grounds). Use the diagram: "3 PICKUPS WITH A 5-WAY SWITCH AND 1 EQ". For passive pickups ignore the connection from the battery to the pickups. You will end up with a master volume, master tone, and the SPC. Now you can hardwire it to your Strat per the instructions on the website and it will surely enhance & fatten up your sound. ... show more

  • Good price, good service, good seller!
Good price, good service, good seller! I knew exactly what I wanted since I have multi EMG equipped guitars. They had it - I bought it. Would buy from them again.
