  • A Simple, Easy to Use, Easy to Install Thermostat
Style: 1F85U-22PR (new model)
I previously purchased this thermostat for one part of our church building. It worked well, so I bought a second. They are easy to program and simple to install. The large display works well for older eyes. My only criticism involves future performance of the screen. The device from my first purchase seems to have lost a bit of clarity on the display. Time will tell. Other than that...I am extremely pleased. ... show more

  • Full Featured for two stage HVAC systems
This unit is designed for a two stage heater and two stage air conditioner, or a two stage heat pump. It can handle gas or electric heaters but it does not support humidifiers. There are many other options in the configuration menu but it takes the manual and some time to figure out some of them. The manual can also be found easily online. If this is replacing another thermostat then one important step is to either label each wire with the name on the terminal or write the color of the wire with each terminal name. (Hopefully all wires have different colors). Do not let the wires fall back into the wall! This thermostat should have the same terminal names so it should be simple to connect. If you have a C (common) wire connection you can choose to keep the display on all the time. I also like that it has a programmable filter change time based on hours of use and not days. This is important to get the best performance out of your filters. Programming a schedule is straight forward and it has separate programs for heating and cooling. It can handle 5+2 (weekdays, weekend) or 5+1+1 (weekdays, sat, sun) schedules. ... show more

  • Set it and forget it.
I've had this thing installed for maybe over a year or 2 now and I think it works pretty well. The interface isn't exactly intuitive so the learning curve on this thing is pretty high. But once you learn it and set it, you pretty much don't have to mess with it too much. For me I've set a range of high/low temperatures so if it gets too cold, the heater kicks on and if it gets too hot the AC kicks on. And then I forget about it. It's really all that I want. It's one of the few thermostats out there that will do this without requiring you to hook it up to the Internet. There are plenty of other features in there but I honestly can't really recall any of them anymore because I took the effort to set up the temperatures once or twice a couple years ago and I haven't really had to mess with it too much since then. ... show more

  • Cant install
Style: 1F85U-22PR (new model)
Seller shipped it to me from Pennsylvania to California in an ENVELOPE? No protective padding and shipping an electronic item that has a circuit board across country in an envelope. We lost common sense somewhere along the way. I can hear loose pieces rattling around so unfortunately can not install it. Update: Customer service from Emerson was great. Got a new one sent to me and working now. The only con regarding the product is the hole on the backplate that you feed the wall wires into, that backplate opening is very large for the wall wires. You have to be careful the wall wires do not fall back into the wall. I think Emerson should provide some kind of backing there that can be cut to size or something, but besides that, it works. ... show more

  • Great replacement & upgrade for a defective thermostat
Style: 1F85U-22PR (new model)
I've been struggling with the A/C in my home for years. The A/C just didn't "seem" to be able to keep up with the heat. The old Honeywell unit I had would indicate a rising temperature even with the A/C running full blast. Well the Honeywell was wrongly indicating the inside temp. This new Emerson unit fixed all of that.. The A/C unit now cycles properly & the house is cool. I hope this lowers the power bill accordingly. Installation was as simple as transferring 4 wires & the Emerson is capable of handling 2 level HVAC systems should I decide to upgrade in the future. ... show more

  • Almost does what we wanted
Seems to be a good t'stat, but has some short comings. 1. For programing, it is set up for daily schedule of 4 periods, apparently for residential use. For commercial use, say for 2 periods such as only occupied/ unoccupied, you need to set periods 1 & 2 the same for occupied time & temp, and 3 & 4 the same for unoccupied ditto. 2. This t'stat will not allow you to set fan operation for "on" during occupied period and "auto" for unoccupied. If you set "on" for occupied period, the fan will run all the time. White-Rodgers advised (when I called their tech dept.) that model 1F95-0671 will allow for this. 3. Only other comment is that instructions not clear on how to remove subbase from back of t'stat. Do not remove the 4 screws, but simply use a coin or flat blade screw driver inserted from bottom of back into small recessed area, and pop it off. ... show more

  • Difficult directions and settings. Works with inadequate driections
Style: 1F85U-22PR (new model)
The thermostat is difficult to set. The settings are extremely difficult to read. It appears a same 7 day setting is possible but no understandable directions. Booklet poorly written. There should be a cheat sheet. I had a White Rodgers Thermostat previously for 25 years. This does not compare.

  • Great thermostat - auto temperature maintenance is key and hard to find
This was exactly what I needed- a thermostat that worked with standard (4) wiring, with auto temp control (meaning, switches from cool to hot on its own if set to auto and schedule programmed), and easy to program. An added bonus I hadn't expected was a large wall mounting bevel which nicely covered the existing hole much better than the previous thermostat, providing a sharp looking wall mounted thermostat. I had it programmed per instructions in under 15 minutes, setting the hot range and cool range for up to 4 time blocks a day, and it has run flawlessly ever since. Most other thermostats do not automatically switch from heater to AC, you'll find in your research most you set to cool and then set the cool low to tell AC to keep it to, or heat to tell heater what high to keep heater to. This allows you to set a range and it auto turns on hot or cold elements to maintain your house in the range. ... show more
