  • Top, Performance, Reliability. Water cooling works well.
I usually stick with name brand PCs like Lenovo, but have also built several gaming PCs from scratch. I took a flyer on this laptop because I know from experience that gaming laptop fans can get a bit noisy. Previously owned a Lenovo Legion 7 and it was a great gaming laptop. But, the fans could get a bit loud under max load. Enter the MECH-15 test. I have the top-of the line version with 12900H processor and 3080Ti GPU....generates maximum heat. First off, it runs both window 10 and windows 11 like a champ. The hardware quality is very good. It's not flashy, but good quality and functional. Secondly, the water cooling works extremely well. When I game without the water cooling, the laptop fans kick in just like any other gaming laptop. As soon as you engage the water cooling system, the temps drop immediately and the fans slow several notches and effectively become silent. Note, Eluktronics has software that is "required" to operate the bluetooth-enabled cooling system and it is true that this software controls the cooler via bluetooth. But, I found this setup a bit over-complicated and uninstalled the Eluktronics software. Instead, I simply turn the cooler on and off as needed. This is simpler and less frustrating.....the bluetooth is not the most reliable technology. Whoever decided to make the water cooling system use bluetooth (not Eluktronics) is a fool. Works better without it. Another note, you only need water cooling when in full-screen gaming mode. When doing regular stuff, you can leave the water cooler off. ... show more

  • ALL CHARACTERISTICS
Excelent laptop. Mech 15 g3 with 5900hx and rtx 3080 16gb. Several drawbacks: 1. Uncomfortable keyboard. Yeah its mechanical, with light led, different customizable colors, BUT! Keys close to each other, no space between ctrl and arrows, small enter, not full set of numpad buttons, and all without space. I took it for design, cg and its not comfortable to work with apps, sometimes you can miss with buttons and press different key. Keyboard should be with space between buttons, as usual old-school type of keyboard, IMHO. Other disadvantage is you have to push hardly on keys because easy touch on keys and you can miss letters, its annoying... 2. Didnt found customization. VERY Simple bios, you cant do anything. Low amount of customization with eluktronics control panel, unpossible to overclock ram or other things. 3. A bit loudy, fans ar loud. Simple tasks like copying files and boom! you are in airplane ! or vacuumcleaner))). 4. Sound. Yeah, its THX, some king of stereo, but sound is strange, audio dynamics located under laptop, on two sides, and they are small, sounds like covered with something, in my opinion not the best. Probably thats all. HARDWARE - TOP! For that amount of money you get top harware like 5900hx, rtx 3080 with 16gb, 512gb samsung ssd, 16gb of samsung ram, sd card slot, web camera, bluetooth, all kind of ports (excpt thunderbolt, probably because amd config and dont know is it possible to connect external gpu via typpe-c ?), quadhd resolution 2560x1440 and good battery - 8400mah (didnt test life without ac adapter). One thing noticed - 15 inch for QuadHD (for work) not enough, everything is tiny. 16-17 inch is better. As a design user of cg software have to say - its Fast ! Loading - speedy, didnt see lags in 3ds max, photoshop, etc. Corona render result - 1:50s. OVERALL - Im happy In plan : add 64gb of ram and 4tb of ssd and you have a beast). ... show more

  • So close.
First of all, I haven't had this for very long - a day or so - before writing this review so it could resolve but it most likely won't. Finding the perfect laptop is hard. Very hard. I thought I has almost done it with this one, but unfortunately it came with a stuck blue subpixel in the center of the screen. I noticed it within minutes of opening the laptop. I tried remedies such as flashing it with different colors that is rumored to help and (very) lightly massaging it with a soft tipped stylus to no effect. Well, I planned on sending it in to get repaired/swapped with another screen that wasn't driving me nuts and I got an email from Eluktronics stating that their policy allows for two broken pixels on any panel and that they would not cover it. To be fair, most screens come with a broken pixel allowance, but I've bought MANY gaming laptops in my life and none of them have had stuck/dead pixels. The idea that customers are just supposed to "accept" a malfunctioning product is a little asinine. Amazon won't let me swap it out with a new one either, assumedly because it's from Eluktronics which is shipping as a third party seller, so I'll have to go through them. I really wanted this to be the end all be all laptop I had for the next few years. Looks like it won't be. Pros: (On Mech 15 G3: RTX 2080 Super Max Q) -Mechanical Keyboard. Not as snappy as Alienware's but still satisfying. -Powerful processor and GPU -Great price. ($1599) -Stays VERY cool. Low 80's during Timespy benchmark. Quiet. The thermals are very impressive. Cons: -If you have 1-2 dead pixels you're out of luck. They won't replace the panel. -The laptop is sturdy, but not completely aluminum. The bottom is very obviously plastic when you feel it. The texture doesn't match the aluminum very well and there's a slightly sharp edge where they meet. There's definitely a quality difference between this one and an Alienware or Razer, for example. -On my model there's a 240Hz HD panel instead of the sharper and nicer 1440p 165Hz. -The screen also some decent back light bleed at the bottom. I'm not as big of a stickler about back light bleed as I am stuck pixels, but it was certainly approaching the level to which I raised an eyebrow in dark areas. Despite this, I wouldn't have thought about returning the laptop based on back light bleed alone. I'm dissapointed - not from the performance of the laptop, but because of the policy and lack of understanding from Eluktronics. Yes, technically panels can have dead pixels, but do you really want your customers to be annoyed and get a bad taste in their mouth everytime they look at your product? Because that's what they are going to tell others who ask for laptop buying advice. ... show more
