This little burner saved my life during my five week kitchen renovation days. The one I had before with coils was very slow to warm up and had a nasty smell. So I tried this one. It worked perfectly and very quick to warm up and the regulator worked good. I was careful while operating as it is quite small in size but can get quite hot and takes time to cool off. This is a good burner which I've used 2-3 times now. I like the cast iron for even heating and it doesn't take too long to heat up. It maintains a steady temperature. I don't like the surface of the burner. The cast iron top is ridged, not smooth and it seems to have some type of coating, maybe teflon? I don't care for it. I would like to just have a plain smooth cast iron surface. A smooth surface would be easier to clean. But most of the cast iron burners on Amazon seem to have this. I didn't see anywhere in the description about a coating, but if there is, please tell me. The cord is very short, only 28" and doesn't reach in my situation. There's even a statement in its defense in the instruction manual, "Short Cord Purpose: A short power cord is provided to reduce the risk of personal injury resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a long cord. Longer power-supply cords or extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use." It is probably suitable for most situations where the burner is on a countertop in a kitchen with receptacles on the backsplash only a foot or two away. But if that is not the case then an extension cord rated for the 1000W burner would be required. ... show more

A really great product at a cheap price. Does the job and heats pretty quickly for such a small unit. The only thing I don’t like is that the knob that turns it on is a little loose. Some reviews say it gets hot; I didn’t notice it getting any hotter than any other unit I’ve owned.

I like that this has the ceramic plate, it's easier to clean and looks nicer. This heats up well enough to fry eggs and boil water. Some of these reviews talked about how long it takes to boil water, I didn't time it, but it seemed reasonable when I was making Mac n cheese and our hotel room. Perhaps the key is to boil water with the lid on? I took the advice of other reviewers and turned it on outside to burn off the manufacturing residue. Even after doing that the first time I use it at full power inside I could smell a little bit, not too bad, though. The one thing I don't like about this unit is how hot the housing and surrounding area gets. It's almost too hot to touch in case you want to move it after you turn it off, and be very careful of the silver bolt that pokes through to the bottom, even after the housing is cool enough to pick up, that bolt was shockingly hot and I dropped the burner under the counter. It's a nice, inexpensive little burner, perfect for travel or a temporary life situation. Just respect the cooldown time, and maybe even cook on top of a heat safe cutting board, and this little guy should serve you well. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This Elite Gourmet ESB-301BF# Countertop Single Cast Iron Burner is a 'decent' burner, but don't expect to get a 'rolling boil' out of this unit. It seems well made but after about 18 minutes, the burner finally got to a point of at least steaming the water in the pot (about a 1/4 tap water temperature level in the 6 quart pot in the image/video). For me, this unit will work in my cooking applications as I don't require a rolling boil, but it is something to be mindful of. At the lower price point, this would make a nice supplement to your cooking appliances. ... show more

I bought this hot plate to roast coffee beans. Due to the smoke produced this must take place outside. I have been using a heat gun to roast the beans in a heavy copper bottom sauce pan, but it takes a long time to heat up the pan and it never gets as hot as I want. This hot plate has 5 heat settings marked on the dial and some marks in between. I let it heat on #1 for 15 minutes to burn off any smells. The temperature of the burner was then more than 600 degrees according to my infrared thermometer. I was kind of skeptical of this. When I roasted coffee, I set the sauce pan on the burner and turned it up gradually, to 5. This resulted in a max pan temp of 280 degrees Fahrenheit. Roasting with the heat gun then proceeded much quicker than before. Time will tell if this is an improvement. The only bad thing I found, was a sticker warning that it would get hot. The adhesive was very strong and it required a lot of work with a plastic spatula to remove. Followed by orange oil to remove the residue. It looks a better now. Like the picture. ... show more
