  • Really nice clock
If you’ve been wanting a Nixie tube clock than this is what you want. All the looks of nixie but will last longer. Options for various display styles and more are downloadable from their website. It really attracts attention. I love it’s ability to get time updates from the internet via your wireless network. It’s 2023 all clocks should do this now! One feature that it seems to be missing is an automatic dimmer for when the room gets dark. You can manually dim it in the software but having it adjust to room lighting would have been nice. ... show more

  • Very Nice Desktop Clock
While this is a very nice, well crafted addition to any desk, as well as being a great conversation piece, there were a couple of shortcomings. The best advice I could give is to go to the very bottom of the Amazon page and find the documentation there as the clock does not come with sufficient documentation to successfully set it up. I was all but ready to give up and send it back when I discovered this point. - The software for setting it up leaves a lot to be desired and was poorly written and implemented. Using Gray text on a black background should be outlawed as just poor practice. - The size of the "unscalable" window is way too small. If it weren't for the fact that the clock was just so darn well made (quality is excellent) I would return it. I hope the purpose of my opinion in this review causes notice to make a pretty good product an outstanding product. But beware, even though it is assembled, connecting to the computer and installing the drivers with the correct version of driver/IPS Clock Software was not as straightforward as I would have expected. Create a better interface and you'll hit a home run.!! ... show more

  • Eye-Catching Clock -- But Really Pricey with Issues
As a clock, it works great. And it really is eye-catching and a conversation starter. I do like it, but it was a pricey luxury item. In terms of its features, there are flaws. -- There are a base set of fonts stored on the clock. You can only change one of those sets to a different font or your own photos. Really wish I could change all the font sets loaded on the clock to all of my favorites. Then I would be able to easily change the "mood" by switching fonts using the buttons right on the clock. Instead, I have to connect the clock to my computer and launch the software to change to another favorite font of mine. Bottom line, I never change the font. Too much effort. -- Definitely download the user guide directly from the NovelLife website. You will need it. But the software is very glitchy. I've had to reinstall it several times to get it to work. And then, at some point, it'll just stop working... says a .dll file is suddenly missing. I haven't used the software in over a month. Just tried launching it. Yup... can't run, .dll missing. I have to reinstall it again if I want to make any changes to my clock. -- The clock has a 12-hour (vs. 24-hour) option. But oops, the 12-hour view isn't quite right. At Midnight, the clock goes to 00.00.00, not 12.00.00 as it should. So the whole first hour of every day is shown in military time (hour zero, not hour 12 am). -- The photo option (to upload your own photos to display) is a bit misleading. It can't really be used as a photo e-display... or certainly not one you want to stare at long. What the photo option really means is that you can upload 10 different photos to replace the individual digits from "0" to "9". You name each photo one of these digits. The clock will then display those photos corresponding to each digit of the current time. So, for example, if it's 10.00.00 am, the clock will show your digit "1" photo in the first tube, and your digit "0" photo in the next 5 tubes. As you can imagine, the far right tube will be cycling through all ten of your photos as every second changes, while the left-hand hour tube will only display your "0" and "1" photos over the course of a day (or also your "2" photo if using the 24-hour display). Not really a useful photo e-display. It could be fun if you took 10 specific photos for this purpose, maybe with 10 different expressions, or 10 different outfits, then annotate each photo with a digit from 0 to 9. So then the clock will display the time of day, with varying backgrounds of your expressions or outfits etc. for each digit of time. I can imagine, though, watching these 10 photos keep cycling every second might get really tedious to look at. -- I did purchase the optional plexiglass dust cover. I do highly recommend getting it. It reflects the LED background colors, enhancing their effect. The shininess of it also adds to the industrial look of the clock. And keeping dust and grease etc. off the tubes will help with keeping it clean. But note, the dust cover really is a piece of junk. It's oddly designed, where all the sides are held together with o-ring like rubber bands. And the slots where each side connects have really thin perimeters. One arrived already cracked during shipping, another cracked just as I was gently assembling it. Not sturdy at all... I'm afraid to even lift the cover or more pieces might snap off. ... show more

  • This thing is brilliant!
I have always wanted a nixie clock for decades. They are very expensive so it was an unfulfilled dream of mine until now. While going through Amazon's selection of nixies in order to, perhaps, finally get one as a special birthday present, I discovered this amazing alternative. While still pricey for a niche purchase, it offers incredible value in that it "appears" like a nixie but with additional advanced features to warrant its price. It does require minor assembly but anyone with working fingers can put it together in a matter of minutes. Programing the clock is not difficult once you simply give it a go. I have not delved into the advanced programing (one can substitute one set of "numbers" with custom replacements or, if preferred, an image or their choosing). Again, something impossible with a regular nixie clock. PROS: Less expensive that a nixie clock Small, lightweight, and easy to assemble The "tubes" are each individually programmable to display whatever the owner chooses The "tubes" will likely last longer than a nixie vacuum tube (I'm assuming based on each's technology) It gives of a pleasant backlit glow that can also be programmed. Bright display Wall adapter-plug included (allows USB chord to be plugged into an outlet) Free software available for customization Very professional and "ship-safe" packaging Arrived quicker than expected (14 days) Looks awesome! CONS: The power cord is short - an extension or replacement is generally required unless it is near a computer or outlet Estimated shipping can be substantial One note about my unit - when I set mine up one of the displays had a very thin green line running vertically through the entire display. It didn't prevent me from reading the clock but was noticeable if observed close up. I contacted the seller and in just a few hours they had responded and sent a replacement. Superior service! Given the individual nature of the parts, this can guarantee a long, long life for unit. ... show more
