  • Good buy!
Model: 14KW
So far this product has been very successful. Was worried about it because we didn’t know much about these electric water heaters but this thing heats up the water really quick and last for entire shower. Decent price as well.

  • Make sure you have the proper requirements and consider all scenarios if switching from natural gas!
Model: 24KW
I'll be 100 percent honest here. I got this item as a review, and I really wanted to use it as a back-up when my eventual gas water heater (which was over 30 years old) would break down. However, after a few consultations from electricians, it turns out I'll probably just install this into friend's home in the end. Plumbing at my home wouldn't have been a problem, but the electricity requirements would have been a problem. Reasons why: This device requires 100 amps with three split 40amp breaker switches. However, even with my 200 amp breaker box (which most homes built after the 90s had) this was insufficient. According to my electric consultations, it was highly likely that my home was using already over 50 percent of the capacity (considering there was already over 200 amps worth of breakers installed). Therefore, to be safe, don't' consider getting this unit unless your breaker box has a 300 amp capacity. The other reasons they consulted was that, though this uses power when you use it, it may not change that much. This item actually has nearly double the energy star estimates compared to my 30 year 40 gallon gas water heater ($162/year vs $289/year). On top of that, it apparently uses 24kw or 24000 watts (to put that in perspective, my 30"x30" dryer uses less than 1000 watts, and my gaming computer uses 600w to 1500w). So yeah, short bursts of hot water would used quite a lot of power. Therefore, the cost of using gas, which is much still much cheaper, would still even out the monthly bill costs (especially if your single and the only one using the water). On top of that, there were the installation and permit costs: In my case it would have cost 250$ for a permit pull for the electricity checks, at least $500 for the plumbing installation, and at least $750 dollars for the electrical installation to do this all legally and within state requirements (and this is the cost in a rural town and without including the extra wiring and plumbing parts. Imagine these costs in a city!). Ironically, (at least in my case) installing a gas water tank would be less complicated as there would be no electrical components. Overall, there's absolutely nothing wrong with this water heater. Which is why I feel I can't minus any stars because the fault lies with me not knowing the full requirements before deciding to review this item. I can at least indicate, it came in neatly packed; it is MUCH smaller than you would think (about the size of 3 shoe boxes), it's astonishingly light as you can carry it under your arm, and had no dents or deformities whatsoever. And for its price (with a current 100 off coupon at this time) this seems like a pretty good deal as items such as this are worth $500 or more at a big box store that provides less power to heat the water. However, I would only think about getting this unit if (1) you do not have gas access and/or (2) you desperately need room where your current water heater is. ... show more

  • Make sure you have enough circuit breakers!
Model: 27KW
I feel like an idiot admitting this, but it something you need to know: Electric tankless water heaters like this one REQUIRE a total of SIX BREAKERS on your electric panel. I neglected to pay enough attention to that requirement when ordering it, and now have a piece of hardware that - as far as I can tell - is probably great, but that I can't install because my breaker panel doesn't have enough open slots AND my service amperage is only 200A, which risks getting exceeded when this heater would be in use. I'm not a professional electrician, but I'm generally pretty competent where these things are concerned. Unfortunately, in this case, the difference between a smart individual and a trained specialist has become painfully clear. The Mizudo tankless water heater comes with precious little aside from the heater itself. The various fittings/hoses/pipes/etc. you'll need are too situation specific to be included. The instructions are brief, and assume a professional level of knowledge. DIYers be warned. One bit of fun trivia for the English-speaking audience: "Mizu" is the Japanese word for water. Anyway, here's hoping you (or your client) enjoys many years of hot, hot showers as a result of your purchase. ... show more
