  • Next year will be easier!
I am excited to try this next summer. Unfortunately, the time you think about getting such things is after you need them, and you didn't have them. I used the 'fork' method and it works but it's slower. I've watched people using the heated knife and it looks so slick. I've hesitated to use one because it can heat the honey and I try to keep it un processed in any way. But one thought I listened to said that it only touches it for a second so it doesn't have time to really 'cook' the honey. I need bee keeping to be easier next year or I may give up altogether. With hive collapse happening I keep losing bees (or for whatever reason) Let's hope this helps. Since I haven't used it I can't yet comment on it's quality, but so far it seems like it's nice. ... show more

  • Less than ideal
I bought this to use to harvest the wax from my hives after extraction. It did well on newer wax, but older wax it couldn’t cut through and just burned into place. The knife itself required constant cleaning with a cool wet rag while still on to be able to work through the first super.

  • A solid tool, working well
This is a very solid tool, and pretty impressive to find at this price. Electric uncapping knives tend to be quite pricey, as they're really convenient. The handle is real wood, and solid, and the blade seems thick and the stainless steel should hold up to a lot of use without corroding. Serrated edges would have been nice like some models, but once heated, this works fine too. It does get very hot and while the temperature is supposed to stop at 320 degrees, my friend advised it might be safer to unplug it once it's hot enough, based on her experience with similar models. It's pretty light and easy to use. For hobby beekeepers, this seems like a good tool. ... show more
