I ordered a Crowpi deluxe all in one kit. It had an error code that prevented it from updating or installing new files or programs. Lets face it. No matter what the product is, or how good it is, sometimes one gets passed quality control. When that happens, it is comforting to know that the company stands behind the product and the customer is treated fairly. Tech support, at Elecrow, couldn't fix the problem and I was referred to Janet in the after purchase dept. Janet didn't hesitate to let me know that they stood behind the product and immediately made a couple offers to correct the situation. Nice unit and nifty for learning electronics and programming. Pros: small and compact nice case Cons: PSU that comes with it is not strong enough. I had to purchase a CanaKit PSU that improved the supply it needed. Lacks a power switch. and, like the previous reviews said, lack of proper instructions for the unit. way lacking. I had to search online for some of the information to it and was not in the crowpi site. no way to change the brightness of the display, it's super bright and uncomfortable. ... show more

    • Nice little setup for testing
I have several tests I need to check before making a Pi5 SBC for specific control units. It is pretty complete and I can both test the Pi5 and my control software to make sure it does what I need it to do. It isn't always what I need but close enough to take the brunt of the testing and get good testing results I can use to confirm with little extra work. ... show more

Having used this for awhile now, I think the strength in the Elecrow is for prototyping projects. It really gives you everything you need in regards to sensors and a display and a full interface usage with most of the GPIO being occupied with various >>out devices for project use. You also get a full Pi 5 8GB model integrated. I used the previous model a bit and I found the ~7" display lacking but this one has an upgraded 9" display. The other one tried to be too much like a traditional laptop and that cost it in terms of ease of use and getting under the hood to tinker. This one learned and is presented in a briefcase style design with everything presented in front of you. Many, MANY moons ago Radio Shack used to offer something similar called "The Electronics Lab" and it was a massive breadboard design with various connectors, wires, diodes, resisters, LCD displays and more to prototype and design test designs before you decided if you wanted to pick up a real PCB for a final phase design. The Elecrow Crowpi Pi 5 feels very much like that. Just like the Radio Shack Kit, it is not designed for an end game, deployable design but where it shined was giving you everything you needed for prototyping and making it easy to implement your test bed designs for testing and usage and prototyping and designing many projects and being able to break down the components pretty easy to work on something else when finished or even part way through. For me, the previous model was maybe a 2.5 or 3 star design at best but clearly Elecrow has listened to feedback and made the adjustments to make this model even better. If the next model is maybe a few inches bigger and has at least a higher quality 11" display in it, that would elevate it to a full 5 star but as it stands the Elecrow Crowpi Pi 5 is a worthy successor. ... show more

Had it for about a hour and I am returning it. Pros: I like how everything is right in front of you, so it could be mobile Cons: Small screen, you need a magnifying glass Instructions are horrible, does not follow what I was shipped Followed the instructions to install the image, did not work, maybe it was because I was following the instructions The URL’s when typed in to find the image and to download stuff to the Pi did not work ... show more

    • After a lot of fiddling.. it's fun!
I have been tinkering on and off with this lil pi kit and I love it! It is conveniently portable and is a real blast for doing retro gaming and program tinkering. Overall I think the price still puts it in the niche category but a good investment for learning environments. I have a couple professors that were really keen to it when I showed them my little side project in a case. ... show more
