  • 5 for value, 4 for quality, works with "normal" cameras
I've been working on a lighting and camera setup for video calls since I'm often on them for several hours a day now thanks to quarantine lockdowns. I already had a keylight setup for video calls, but needed some soft front light to help even out my face and make my eyes not look like death. This fit the bill perfectly and does a great job - here's a quick rundown: Value - 5/5. You get a pretty solid soft ring light with multiple options and touch controls, a decentish tripod, and a remote (haven't tried it) for dirt cheap. Yes, it's all plastic, but it works great for home photography. Quality - 4/5. Let's be honest, at this price point there's no way you're going to get high quality components and you shouldn't expect them, either. The tripod is not going to compete with $100+ ones, nor is the light itself. But they get the job done just fine. Note that the tripod is not particularly robust, so I don't recommend using it with a heavy DSLR. It's fine with phones and even with my Sony RX100 camera, but I wouldn't put anything much heavier than that on it since the joints aren't particularly tight (especially tilt up/down) and it's just not designed for that. Light - 4/5. In comparison to my reference true 5500K LED keylight, the default setting is slightly orange (not a big deal), and you also get two alternate setting options - one more orange and the other more blue. Brightness options offer plenty of variance, but note that if your other room lighting is super dim like mine, the output from the ring light probably won't cut it on its own for good photos. In that case consider stepping up to a bigger ring or adding another light. Also important to me was the softness of the light and the diffusion on top of the LEDs does a great job here - nice soft shadows. Important note if you want to use a real camera (like a DSLR) with this: Yes, you can! The kit assembles as three separate pieces - the tripod is like a normal one with a standard 1/4 20 screw thread on top, then the light unit screws onto that and itself has another 1/4 20 screw thread on top of the controls (so the screw is inside the ring, about a half-inch above the bottom of the inside edge). You can use the provided phone holder to screw into that and hold your phone, or screw in a camera instead so that the camera is inside the ring. HOWEVER, note that there is only 60mm from the center of the thread to the inside edge of the ring so measure your camera and make sure it will fit without hitting the side. My RX100 IV barely fits, but I added a quick release system to it that lifts it 3/4" up so it's not an issue - you might need to do something similar if your camera is wide or has a screw mount way off center. ... show more

  • 5 years and flawless!
I've used this every day, often for 12 hours straight, for over 4 1/2 years, without a flaw or issue. Great illumination, three tones plus granular brightness. Stable and secure, works on the floor, on my desk, or attached to a mobile stand. Great remote. Etc. Highly recommend!!

  • Nice ring light and tripod set
Summer break and qurantine had made me quite bored at home these days. I had been selling on poshmark and depop and one my biggest problem is getting the angle and lighting right. This is ringlight plus tripod set up is very easy to assemble put the box. Has three adjustable levels of height which comes in handy when I want to do a full body shot vs lower and closer body shot of my clothes. The brightness is adjustable and there is also three color mode. There is white light, slightly blue light and a yellow light. I've only tried the attachment with my Android phone and worked really well with the little controller. Which is definitely my favorite feature as I can take pictures easily with a click of a button. The set also came with a bag that you put your tripod in but it won't be able to fit the right light attachment. Con: Not really the product's problem but more of my own mistake. The ring light is small, you won't be able to flip your phone and take pictures vertically. Only horizontally. The only solution I guess is to but a bigger sizes ring light in the first place. Overall: As a beginner photographer and only taking pictures for fun I think this ring light is very good. I didn't find anything wrong with the quality but I'm not a professional so I can't tell the difference. While I won't be taking pictures everyday, I think it would be handy in the future to take family pictures and stuff. ... show more

  • Great value and quality for indoor AC plug in use only
Works great, metal tripod is sturdy and has a leveler, could be used with other small camera/video/lighting equipment as well. Not sure I would use it to hold my DSLR and a telephoto lens thou. That said it's easy and quick to assemble and comes with a lightweight storage bag. The light ring is lightweight and offers bright light in all color options, which includes dimming if too bright. While I do love that it plugs in with an AC adapter, (perhaps I didn't fully read or understand the description provided) I kind of expected for it to have dual power options. Meaning, I expected for it to also allow me the option to plug it into my phone with a USB cable. Making it portable when going to areas where you don't have electricity. Basically, this is NOT a unit to travel with into areas without a standard wall outlet (primitive camping, hiking, beach, desert, rivers, park, etc). The phone holder, works just as described, I have a thick phone case with a pop socket on my Samsung Galaxy S8+ and it was able to hold it steady without issues. That said, I don't think it is capabilities allow for the width of a tablet. The remote is awesome and easy to use. The only down side to the remote, is that it only recognizes the camera's phone app when directly opened. Meaning, if you try to use the remote while accessing the camera/video feature within another app (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc) it won't recognize it and remote won't work. Aside from that it works great for indoor use. Plus it's an awesome value. ... show more
