  • This collar is a great tool and communication device - blown away! ..AND great customer service!
Size: Small-Medium Dog Style: 3/4 Mile 1 Dog Color: Yellow
UPDATE May 26, 2016. After having this collar for a year now we still love it. We use it every day, and it has been a real champ. We had our first issue this week; the collar was responding to the controller intermittently. We thought it was a battery the first couple times we noticed it, but the battery was charged, and the LEDs were lighting up as expected when the buttons were pressed. After fooling around with it, I realized it would work sometimes and not others, depending on the orientation of the collar. It seems there is a loose wire in it somewhere. I called E-Collar Technologies - their phone number is on the back of the handset, and told them what was up. They offered to replace it - I have to send back the original so they can inspect it and see what happened. What great customer service! I was prepared to pay to have it repaired, and was blown away by how nice the person on the phone was. That makes me even more happy about using these training collars, knowing the manufacturer stands behind them! (Our other collar, purchased from a professional dog trainer is still going strong!) Thank you, E-Collar Technologies! I have been using the Educator collar for a couple of weeks now. We have two of them for our two dogs. I have tried another brand of training collar - a more basic, bargain priced unit, and this Educator blows that one away. It has been wonderful to work with my dogs using this collar. Our first Educator came as a part of some professional dog training we are doing for our GSD in Savannah, GA. They use these collars and taught us how to use them effectively. Things went so well with this collar that we bought another one from Amazon for our other dog, a lab mix. What I really like about these collars is the adjustable levels. The stimulus ranges from 0-100, plus it has a "tap" button that is just a small vibrate function. The other collar we had only had three levels on the remote - vibrate, low, and high. Low was too much and it really bothered our dog. With this system, you only use as much stimulus as is required to communicate with your dog. It doesn't hurt - I have zapped myself with it in my hand at around level 15. It's a tingling sensation that absolutely gets my attention, but it doesn't hurt, per se. We live at the beach and like to take our dogs on the beach. Being able to recall them over long distances is a great bonus for these collars. We just like to have our dogs off the leash whenever we can - they much prefer that to being on the end of a leash. To do that, they have to be well trained in order to keep them safe. The red emergency button is nice too, because if the dog really does something that might endanger it, you can get its attention and get it back to you safely. Our trainer and the folks that recommended him to us told us that the training process would really increase the bond with our dog, and they were right. It has been great. In just a couple of weeks, there is an amazing increase in the dog's attentiveness, tail wagging, and affection. It has NOT scared our dog or made the dog afraid of us at all. Both our dogs love to go out and practice their training, especially the GSD. The collar that comes with this is nice and shouldn't get really stinky like some other kinds of leashes. The collar must be tight on the neck to work properly, although we take it off every night and when we're away from the house for any period of time. We also switch sides of the neck to keep from creating skin irritation. The collar is very well made, and we're told it's water-proof. We haven't had either one submerged in a pool or the ocean yet, but they are warrantied if something goes wrong. The collar is VERY long, so once you fit it to your dog you have to trim it shorter with a pair of scissors. The handset is very comfortable for me and my wife although I have an easier time with it than she does because I have bigger hands. If you don't need the distance, the 1/2 mile version has a smaller handset. It is comfortable feel and easy to hold on to. We have practiced using it one-handed, and within a few days it is easy to dial up and down as needed and reach the buttons. The collar and the hand set get charged every night, and it comes with an A/C wall adapter. Both units have receptacle covers when not being charged. The magnetic on and off switch for the collar is nice - when you put the collar on in the morning you have to match up the dot on the hand set with the dot on the collar. It prevents the dog from accidentally turning it off. (Incidentally, the other brand we used had a push power button on the collar, and a couple of times the dog somehow turned it off!) One feature I thought was a little silly at first is that the collar has white LED's on it which can be set to blink or stay on solid - controlled by the hand set. As it turns out, however, with the darkness and long shadows in our back yard, it is nice to turn on the lights on the collars at night and generally see where the dogs are. Depending on what they are doing with their heads, particularly the GSD with her long hair, you can't always see it, but when they are walking around you can generally see it. Now I like that feature and use it every night. My wife likes the lanyard these come with, although I don't care to wear these things around my neck. I just put it in my pocket or keep it nearby. When I'm training I think the lanyard gets in the way. All in all, we love these collars and the freedom they are giving us to keep our dogs safe and well behaved, especially when off the leash. I was worried that this would feel like hurting the dog, but that hasn't been our experience. Our dogs seem eager to get their collars on in the morning and love to work with them. With proper training (which is why we're using a professional trainer) we really aren't using high level stimulus much at all (except when a dog tries to dart away or something). I highly recommend this collar. If you want great training, look for Off-Leash K-9 training in your area. The GSD rescue we used to adopt our dog recommended them for GSDs because they love to "work". We are very pleased with the whole experience. ... show more

  • Excellent Sophisticated Dog Training System
Size: Small-Medium Dog Style: 1/2 Mile 1 Dog Color: Yellow
This is a dog stimulation (shock) collar with 100 levels of adjustability. It also has features for: vibration (they call it "tap") and a bright LED light that either flashes or is always on. It is sophisticated and an excellent tool. Why 100 levels? Shock collars have come a long way. They are no longer just to punish your dog. The stimulation (shock) is adjustable in VERY fine increments. You find the level that your dog can barely detect, and use that level of stimulation. What this system is able to do is condition your dog to do something (like sit) in a way that they are for a while slightly uncomfortable until they do what you are training (sit). So with the sit example the short version is I say sit, then hold the button causing continuous stimulation, and when his bottom hits the ground I release it. He works to avoid the slightly uncomfortable stimulation. In fact my dog started with his training at level 12 but is now down to 6 or 7. Once you get down to around level 8, if you put the collar on yourself (leg, hand, whatever) you will not be able to feel it. Think of dragging your feet across the carpet and then touching the doorknob - Shock! - that is much more then what we're talking about here. That might be a level 15 if I had to guess. Luckily this unit lights up a red light on the receiver (the collar on your dog) when it is stimulating. Thats the basic idea. Now lets talk about the shipping, construction, instruction manual, and customer service plus extra discussion of features if you're interested. - Shipping was super fast thanks Amazon Prime. Two days as usual. - The unit is tough. The transmitter (yellow thing with the buttons that you hold) feels like tough rubberized plastic. They say its waterproof and floats though I don't go to the lake or anything to try that. The receiver is also tough but I don't like the buckle collar that comes with it. Its different from our snap buckle collars and I was always guessing if I had right fitment. I ended up ordering a quick snap collar from E-Collar customer support ($8 with shipping). Its also cool that you can order all sorts of accessories up to and including a second receiver that will work with you same transmitter - your dog could have two zappers on one collar for a more consistent stimulation for just $100 more with an easy sync process. Not a bad deal especially if you want them on the sides of your dog's neck instead of jabbing him in the trachea - I'm considering getting one. Con here - The unit ships with two prongs for the collar (E-Collar calls them "probes") for different hair lengths and breeds. If you have a short haired dog, a pit bull or something like that you will have to ORDER AND PAY for the smaller more comfortable "probes" like I did. They are cheaper when you order them directly from the E-Collar people but I think they should be included for what you pay for this ($8 including shipping). I got a defective set upon first order, but customer service fixed that fast. More on customer service in a bit. - Instructions. The instruction book is very logical and explains everything very well. It was indeed written by an American person who speaks this language. In fact when talking about the limits of range (1/2 mile) the book says to hold up the transmitter like "the Statue of Liberty" when the dog starts getting far away and you need to transmit something. When some things are confusing in paragraph form (like discussions of the different mode settings) they have a matrix for you to review in addition. Great material. - Customer Service. Customer Service is great. The number is stamped into your transmitter so you don't have to look up a number - then a real human American person answers the phone. Not an automated system. If you leave a message they call you back. They must have a good system in place because they can look you up to figure out what you called about last time, and sort out your issue. I had this happen when my first pit bull prongs were defective and I needed a replacement. I called, left a message with a mailing address, and they shipped it out even before I was able to check on it or take a call. They shipped a replacement from a VM without talking to me first. Awesome. Summary of features then conclusion - 100 levels of stimulation (shock) from 0 to 100. The nob is very useful, and you can lock a value in easily (I love this) so you don't accidentally change your level. I use the vibrate function to call my dog from long distances as I call his recall, its a nice warning and works well. Stimulation - there are three ways to deliver shock stimulation and several modes that change what the buttons do. READ YOUR MANUAL. One is continuous and sends a continuous shock of the level selected while the button is pressed; one is momentary a very fast brief zap when you hit the button, and boost. Boost is for punishment, this is what you think of with old zap shock collars, its useful for if your dog is doing something that you NEVER want him/her to do. I use boost for: Humping at the DP, poop eating, any mouthing / anything that appears to look like biting, running uncontrolled into the street. You can have boost be momentary or continuous and it is generally set to level 30 though you can adjust it with the instruction manual at hand. There is also a light function on the unit. You can have the light blink or stay on. This is amazing. I go long periods these days without stimulating but my pit still wears the collar, I use the light every day. At the DP I have it shine down on him so I can see where he is and what he's doing, and on runs I point the collar so the light shines forward on the path. People and cars can see my dog at night. I can see my dog at night. I LOVE the light. The light is bright and amazing. People at the DP are amazed when they see it and think the collar is just a light - which is fine by me. Conclusion. My pit bull is a sweet heart. He is clumsy and strong and sometimes stubborn. This unit in conjunction with a training schedule suited to E-Collar keeps my pit happy and under control when he needs to be, and visible at night. The unit keeps him safe from people who discriminate and stereotype against powerful breeds. I know its important to mix positive and negative forms of training, but sometimes you MUST use negative depending on your individual dog - and this is a consistent, safe, and valuable way to do it - if not pricy. I docked a star because they should have included the micro prongs in my opinion at this price, the whole thing is too expensive (though you should get the main unit on Amazon and the accessories from their cust service due to pricing), and because one of the micro probe was defective that I bought and they had to send a replacement. Quality control should have caught my defective probe. Nothing huge. You should buy this. I just can't say it was 100% perfect to get 5 stars. ... show more

  • worked great for 2 years until it stopped working.....
Size: Small-Medium Dog Style: 1/2 Mile 1 Dog Color: Yellow
we purchased this 2 years ago. this ecollar was required for us to purchase after our dog went through training. the ecollar has been great for the most part and we love the light on it. But, it has been 2 years and 2 months since purchasing this ecollar, and the remote has completely stopped working. for the past few weeks, it has been glitching to the point where it changes the intensity on its own without you even touching it. it has shocked our dog randomly while it is just laying on the counter with no one near it. Now, it is completely locked on level 65. and the vibration doesn't even work now. we never have it up that high, so at this point it is useless and we cannot even use it. super disappointed in this because we just got a puppy and were probably going to order one for him, but now we will probably exploring other brands. maybe its just our luck, but definitely could have become a potential serious problem if it stopped working at the wrong time. ... show more

  • Has become my best friend
Size: Small-Medium Dog Style: 1/2 Mile 1 Dog Color: Yellow
My dog is very sensitive and responds at a level 5, I can't even feel it at that level. This is the only Ecollar I have found that his sensitive self can tolerate and be used effectively with. I will and have recommended this to everyone I meet. The only complaint I have is I have to readjust it 3 times before it finally makes appropriate contact no matter how well I put it on initially. Have to walk about a block and readjust it several times for it to be effective. ... show more
