We had to recently get a new water heater and due the the hardness level of our water we wanted to look for something to potentially help improve the longevity of the new water heater. We did lots of research and the eddy water descaler seemed to be the most effective for the price. It was very easy to install. This descaler is supposed to help improve negative effects of hard water over time so we will update our review in about 2 or 3 months to report how things are going. So far, so good. My wife has especially noticed a difference in her hair. Update: November 10th 2022. The water seems to leave less build up on shower heads and leaves less in the toilets, I'm interested to see what the hot water heater will look like when it is time for it's cleaning. ... show more

OK, As an engineer I am skeptical about this hocos pocus like device but I am willing to give it a try because of all the positive "anecdotal" info here. Why skeptical? Because this is not changing the chemical natural of the water. It maybe is manipulating ions but the calcium is still there. (that is what makes hard water hard) The reason why I am testing this is I don't want that big water softener in my garage. I have lived in 6 homes in 6 states and had everything from perfect town water to deep well water that was loaded with all kinds of stuff and everything in between. I have had the big water softeners and whole house filters, pumps and uv systems. It is a nightmare. My current situation is a I just bought a brand new home and it has city water. It has a water-softener loop in the garage for a hook up but none is there yet. I don't want one unless I really need it so I will try this first and return it if it does not fix the problem. Now the water is hard here. My wife and I noticed it on our first shower. She reported to me " something is wrong, the soap is broken and my hair feels like straw". Yep I said we have hard water. I tested it with a strip test from Home Depot and it reads about 450 . That is HARD WATER. All the other tests were pretty normal but I could smell a very slight little chlorine. but it tested within normal range. After two days of eddy install : It may be my mind but we both noticed our hair is feeling a little better. (not normal yet but a little better) I still think the soap should lather more but we think there is a slight improvement. Now the water heater holds 50 gals so there has to be a lot of the "pre eddy" water in there. so lets give it a full couple weeks and I will start retesting the water. For now I give it 3 stars but I want to see the actual measured hardness come down. I don't see how it can but I am trying to keep an open mind. If the effects of hard water disappear but the measurement still is high I will keep the eddy. If I see no real improvement in hardness or hair/soap/skin/clothes/scale etc... I will return it and buy a water softener and filter system.(ugh) So I will report back in a week or so... until then. It has been several weeks or so since I put this in and I wanted to update. I moved my rating to 4 stars. This definitely has some desired effects. The water still tests as hard but my hair feels much more normal now. Not so dry and stiff. Current hardness is about 250 or so but that is based on reading a color chart that is hard to distinguish between the colors with any degree of accuracy. That said my wife has told me I fixed the problem. I don’t see much scale buildup either. I will continue to monitor. For now though I think I will hold off on getting a big water softener system as this appears to have some merit. ... show more

Installed it about 3 months ago. My well water had an iron flavor to it and left red residue in the showers and toilets. I had already installed a filter a few years ago and that took away all the rusty looking particles we used to have in our water. But the taste and residue has always been a problem still. The literature on this product did not specifically mention that it would help for rusty water but I went ahead and gave it a try anyway. Figured "what the hell" It couldn't be any simpler or faster to install. Have to admit, I had my doubts after hooking it up. Looking at it, it just looks like one of those crazy scam devices that pulls electricity out of the air or gives you 100MPG on your car with magnets. But I left it hooked up and pretty much forgot about it for a while. Then one day I just happened to think about it. Ya know what? My water definitely tastes better and while the red residue is not totally gone...it is much much less. To the point of not really being such a big deal any more. So I guess this thing is working. I'll be damned. Give it a try. You might be surprised like me. ... show more

So I purchased one of these about 8 years ago because we had no room to install a water softener. I figured it was probably BS, but worth a shot. I am now moving to a different area of the same municipality, and the faucets are ALL a complete nightmare (think stalactites in a cave). While I knew that this was working, this gives me a far greater appreciation of just how amazing this easy & space-effective fix is! After I installed this instead of having hard & crusty build-up, it makes the lime/calcium powdery when left behind. So it doesn't eliminate hard water issues completely, but it does make it much easier to manage and you're not as likely to sustain damage to plumbing fixtures and appliances. Also, I didn't have too much of an issue with the wash machine or dishwasher after it was installed. Sometimes I still add something to the wash for hard water, but I typically use natural/neutral detergents and have not had an issue with things coming clean. So overall, I'd say this was a totally worthwhile investment, and I'm thinking about it for the new place (even though it is a rental - for the cost it is not worth the extra hours and expense of cleaning up after hard water build-up). I honestly wasn't 100% certain where I purchased it, but I tried looking it up in my orders, and lo and behold, it was sitting there waiting for me. If you're out of luck on space, but need something, pull the trigger. This is a nifty gadget that does what it says and has decent longevity. ... show more

I can't believe I'm free from lugging bags of salt..Do have to get a whole house filter a small amount of rust in water but no big deal. Water in my house is saw much better now ...No more stains in toilet.
