  • The Best
The water is very hard in my area and I do not like salt based water softeners. In the past, I have tried permanent magnet based de-scalers, with limited success. Since these have a static magnetic field then their effect seems to be determined by water velocity and, therefore, do not perform well when water flow is low. The EDDY, however, is based on an AC field and does not have this problem. I have had the EDDY for two months now and it has performed flawlessly. When I first received it, for example, I cleaned a small nozzle based shower head and recommissioned it. This unit had been set aside because it always clogged with calcium deposits. I also cleaned the glass shower doors and dishwasher. Now, after two months of use, none of these items show any evidence of calcium deposits. The water also seems softer when using shampoos, etc. I believe there may be several reasons for some reviewers to not have a good experience. These are all easy mistakes to make during the installation, especially if the instructions are not carefully followed. Of course, too many of us fall into that category. 1. It is very easy to make a mistake in winding the coils and, therefore, end up with opposing coils. 2. It is very easy to get the coil wires mixed up and this can have the same effect as a wrong winding 3. As stated in the instructions, this unit will not work on iron pipe, but how many homeowners know the difference and most water supply lines are iron pipe. 4. The electronics unit is best when it is located close to the coils 5. Expectations are too often tied to a water softener instead of a de-scaler and this occurs because customers often do not understand the difference 6. As stated in the manual, existing water pipes may have significant hard water build up in them from the past. If this is the case, then it will take some time for this to be descaled out by the conditioned water and this may initially delay optimum results. Lastly, I believe the price is reasonable and the unit is a good value. So far, the quality seems to be there as I have had zero problems. Update: It's now been almost 5 months since I installed the Eddy and my "rain shower" still does not show any issues with hard water deposits. This is one of the older shower heads with metal, not rubber, nozzles so deposits normally show quickly. Also, my glass shower doors stay clear with normal cleaning and my 15 year old water heater has been performing better. Additionally, my dishwasher is still clean. Obviously, there have not been any problems with the Eddy, either, so my report is all positive. ... show more

  • Quick to install, worked within a day or two! 🌈💦
I didn’t realize how hard our spring water was, which comes from snow melt runoff of our beautiful nearby mountains, until we stayed at a hotel recently and I took a shower in it—I was surprised how quickly the soap and shampooI rinsed out, how my hand skipped and made squeaking sounds as I ran it down my arm! And afterwards I was so impressed with the softness and full body of my hair. I was determined to finally do something with our water back home. I was skeptical about this unit at first, as it seemed too good to be true due to being reasonably priced and quick & easy to install. But I really did not want to deal w/the installation of a bulky softener and commuted to purchasing/disposing several pounds of salt. I was eventually convinced after reading the reviews, figuring it was worth a shot. It arrived on schedule and took just 20 minutes to install onto our pvc pipes where our spring water enters our house and enters our main debris/sediment filter. Then I plugged it in, checked the lights on the box, and crossed my fingers. Per the instructions, I had already descaled our bathroom fixtures (faucets and toilets), so I could tell if/when it was working. I also let the kitchen sink and one of our showers run a bit to move the water through the system. I’d say I could feel a difference by the next day or two, when I began to feel that familiar squeaky clean sensation on some dishes I was washing. I am not noticing as much squeakiness in the shower, yet, but it is further down the house from the inlet and may have more pipe to clean out first. I’ll check back later to let you all know how it progresses, but so far I am pleased to see it is improving the water quality. ... show more

  • I think it is actually working!
I have lots of calcium in my well water. The inside of my stainless steel dishwasher was completely white with scale. My bathtub, toilet, counters around the sink all developed a white coating on them over time that could not be removed with a sponge, a scrubber or even a magic eraser. Getting it off took soaking with vinegar and then scraping with a butter knife or credit card. So I wanted something to fix this problem. I researched water softeners and electronic descalers for awhile Water softeners were expensive and there are laws in my area regarding the discharge of brine from them that would further complicate installation, but frankly it seemed like the only good option. As an electrical engineer I was very skeptical about the claims of all of the electronic descaler manufacturers. None of them gave seemed to have plausible explanation of how/why it worked. I consulted with my father (a chemist) who could not come up with an explanation either. I was very nervous about plunking down $200 on snake oil, but with the 1 year money back guarantee on this product, I figured it was worth the risk to find out. Going in, I new what to expect. I knew this was not going to soften the water or reduce the hardness of the water. Reviewers here who are expecting that and complaining that it doesn't work have clearly not informed themselves well enough about what a descaler does. I also expected that the results would not be instantaneous but would instead occur gradually over several months. I installed the unit at the end of March. Installation was pretty easy. I had to add a GFCI outlet for it near my pressure tank in the basement which was the only tricky part. I soaked a paper towel with vinegar and laid it over a section of my dishwasher and cleaned away the scale so that there was a perfectly clear section that I could use for comparison to tell if the descaler was working. I even took pictures of it intending to post before and after pictures here but I accidentally erased them sometime between then and now. It has now been a little over 4 months since installation. For the most part, I am still getting some scale appearing anywhere water collects but, and HERE IS THE KEY DIFFERENCE, it wipes away with the scrubber side of a sponge. I don't need the vinegar soak and scraper to remove it. Also, my wife was using a towel to wipe up some puddled water on the dishwasher and I noticed that afterwards some of the previous scale from before the installation was wiping off. I think the descaled water actually worked to loosen the underneath layers of scale after about 4 months of use. It still takes a little effort to clean away the scale, but it is much easier than before. I used the scrubber side of a sponge today and wiped away the majority of the remaining white scale on the dishwasher door. It was definitely easiest to wipe away where water tends to pool implying that having the descaled water sitting on old scale for extended times does help loosen it. I would have given this 5 stars, but have to subtract one for value. There doesn't seem to be more than $15 worth of material cost in this this thing, so it seems there is a huge markup on it. I don't know if the cost needs to be that high to cover overhead and all of the units returned under warranty, but it seems like this product should be much less expensive. ... show more
