I don't travel with a laptop when on vacation, so when I scored a last-minute cheap seat on Volaris, I needed to travel underseat only for a 6-day trip (current backpack wouldn't be large enough). So I bought this one. No separate laptop compartment (yey!) - but has usable front pockets, a hidden pocket at the back, and easily fit under the seat sideways - when regularly filled. On the way home with a couple of souvenirs I was glad the plane was only half full as my souvenirs made the pack too high. Comfortable shoulder straps (didn't miss the chest strap) and compression straps on the side made this a relative pleasure to travel with. No damage after first trip. ... show more

This bag is the perfect size for budget airlines one bag travel! There is no wasted space, no wasted padding as it does not have any unnecessary laptop sleeve area. Opens and packs like a mini suitcase with new mesh zippered compartments on the inside lid for charging cables and 311 bag. Seems to be pretty decent build quality for the price and a great huge mesh pocket on the outside of bag, likely for a water bottle but if space is at a premium forego a water bottle and use it for extra packing space for light jacket or thin sweater. Nice top pocket for quick phone storage as you go through security and top and side padded grab handles. I bought this backpack to use as an under seat carryon for a trip from the USA to France for a week-long river cruise. The size is ideal. It’s small enough to fit under an airplane seat and yet capacious enough to hold several days of clothing and shoes. There are four straps that can be used to compress soft objects. The zippers can be secured with a TSA lock. The pockets, which easily accommodated an Apple laptop and an i-pad, are protective and accurately sized. At first, the number of pockets may seem overwhelming, but with time and use, you will be grateful. If you want a backpack that can also double as an overnight bag this is the one. Lots of useful pocket plus can handle clothing. The fabric is made from recycled bottles. A nice weight and water resistant. For me, this is not an everyday bag. But for travel carryon its great.

I ordered this as a 'personal item' sized bag for my son. I was looking for a backpack that could fit enough items for a 13 hour plane ride and several 3-4 hour bus rides, but ALSO meet the very small 'personal item' size requirements for United and be light enough to be used as a daypack in a pinch. Pros: lots of separate compartments including ZIPPERED pockets in different areas (front, top, back side) to separate items like a damp jacket or 3:1:1 bag; relatively water resistant; double zippers (we add a tiny carabiner for a layer of theft discouragement); thin enough to flatten and pack small in checked luggage if needing an extra bag on arrival; clamshell style opening for easy access to all items; a little padding on the straps; a designated protected tablet/laptop area; an inside pocket with a hole for a cord to provide access to a power bank or other device; extra straps with buckles on the sides to compress the size if needed and take pressure off the main zippers. Someone thought of everything. Honestly, I am a little jealous, I might ask for one for myself on a future gift giving occasion. This bag might not stand up to the rigors of long term travel, camping, carrying really heavy school books, or used as checked baggage, but it seems well constructed in general for typical use. ... show more

    • Just what I was looking for!!

Yay! Finally found the backpack is was looking for because: 1) It opens like a suitcase and has cinch-down straps on the outside. I got so tired trying to access items stacked on top of each other in a traditional backpack. 2) It is smaller than my carryon, slips on to the handle on my carryon and has multiple, exterior compartments. 3) It does not have padding for a computer which I like as I don't travel with a computer and found that padding in other backpacks just took up precious room. 4) It's comfortable to wear. 5) It doesn't expand. I don't start my travels with it full (that's why the exterior cinch-down straps are so great). You can extend the straps as you acquire treasures on your trip. 6) It easily accommodated 2 pair size 9 athletic shoes, my liquids, cosmetics, phone & other chargers, medications & 2 paperback books. I have not yet flown with it but if have to check my carryon I have this bag to take to my seat with me. Fabric is sturdy and zippers are good quality. I like it is made with recycled materials.
