  • Very happy with ecobee
Internet connection setup easily. Added second room sensor easily. Nice design, nice menus. If your cable does not have a 'C' wire, good luck. Mine didn't, but then I found the 'C' terminal in the furnace end was not connected so I just moved a redundant 'R' wire to the 'C' and it worked fine after.

  • Box missing key components
We love the EcoBee and its integrated sensors. Unfortunately, our order was missing the 2 sensors. I now have to package it up, send it back and hope that my next order will have all the parts it is supposed to come with:(

  • Inferior tech, horrible customer support
Room sensors don't work very well unless they are in the same room (defeats the purpose). Many problems with these units over the course of 6 months...the HVAC guy said they have so many (unfixable or overly time consuming repairs) problems with Ecobees that they consider not servicing them. Also, being a landlord, the tenant messed with the settings and you can't do a manual reset...you have to contact customer service at eco bee to get some sort of master code, which is a nightmare. After a full day of trying to get customer service (VM was full, so I emailed the people who first refused to help and followed up to confirm their refusal to help), I still have a unit that doesn't work. I never registered the product (the homes I bought came with it) but they insist on "proof of address" before helping. How do you prove address? they don't have an answer, but still want it. Asinine...what are they going to check that against, since they admit it was never registered? I have no idea when this is going to end, but please save yourself the trouble and don't buy an eco bee product, especially if you don't have days on end to troubleshoot basic issues. ... show more

  • Utility Rebate Information
While I have both Nest at home and Ecobee at my cabin, I prefer Ecobee because the user has many configuration options while Nest does not. Regarding Ecobee, be aware that if your gas company is Dominion Energy, you must purchase the full version Ecobee (with voice control and other features) to receive a $50 rebate. Not sure if other gas companies have the same requirements, but you would be well advised to check Gas and Power rebates in your area. ... show more

  • Don’t buy!!
Have this thermostat had it for approximately two years now keeps on dropping Wi-Fi signals. Nothing has changed with my Wi-Fi provider been dealing with technical support and been getting very scattered information. I would not recommend this thermostat. I would buy the competition. Also tech support admits that they have a lot of complaints about WIfi issues…. ... show more

  • Window sensor requires monthly subscription
The thermostat is good but it came as a surprise that the window sensor requires a paid monthly subscription for their "smart security" features. This is ridiculous as this has very little to do with home security.

  • Requires paid monitoring for some sensors to work
We’ve had this Ecobee package for only two weeks. It was bought through my husband’s account so my review doesn’t show it as a verified purchase. Generally, the Ecobee unit works well as a thermostat. The functions of the remote sensors, however, are inadequate in their listing description. Although the Ecobee door sensor from this package was installed just ten feet from the Ecobee thermostat, when the door is left open for ventilation purposes the Ecobee sensor on the door will not signal the thermostat to stop the hvac system. The sensor apparently requires a separate paid monitoring system (which we do not have) in order to do that. The remote sensor for other rooms, which does not require outside paid monitoring, is useless to us, as well, because our house has only one hvac zone. So when the remote sensor in my husband’s office tells the living room thermostat to increase cooling (we live in a hot climate) the hvac is triggered to lower the temperature of that sensor. So my husband is nice and cool in the office but because the cool air is being circulated throughout the house in the effort to cool the office I end up freezing in the living room. Conclusion: this multi sensor package might be good for homes that already have outside paid monitoring services and have multiple hvac zones that can be selectively controlled. It’s not the best system to buy for single zone unmonitored homes that serve more than one person. ... show more
