    • Having an intermittent E1 error that shuts down the unit.

I bought this unit in 2016 to install on my Alaska Cabin utilizing LP which I only use for 3 weeks out of the year. Didn’t get to install it until summer of 2017. Seems like it would fire up and work for a little while but then came the E1 errors (ignition system failure). Because the E1 error comes and goes, I don’t know what the issue is. It would work through one shower, then stop working and get an E1. Sometime it would come back on and work through an entire shower and other times the E1 error would prevent firing up again. If I tried the next day, it would work for a shower or two but then the E1 would creep back in. I’ve got the right regulator, 11’ WC, 160,000 BTU, changed the hose from 3/8” to 5/8”, changed the tank, all without getting it to work consistently. I’ve even tried to soak the tank in water to warm it during use. I’m starting to think that the other ratings are from the China factory pumping up their products as noting can have ratings so diverse. 36% 5 star and 46% 1 star? It’s now the summer of 2019: whatever the case, I cannot get this unit to work effectively when needed and will need to turn it into a shooting target, if it’s not resolved soon. ... show more

Update 7/2019: replaced the main board which now is programming the unit to require less water flow to trigger the heater. Works like a champ now. Increased 2 stars to 3 1/2. Have had this unit over a year now. I have not had any defective issues, BUT the design of this unit is HORRIBLE! I have the unit installed on one section of my home where the laundry, kitchen and one guest bath is located. Kitchen sink use: horrible! there is not happy medium - in other words, you get HOT or NOT. No warm to rinse off a dish or wash your hands. Dishwasher: I have a professional series dishwasher that has the option to heat up water beyond the 120 degrees. However, by setting my heater to produce 130 degree water, I don't have to use this feature. So for this application, I give it a 4 out of 5. Guest Bath Shower: only works because I have a non-efficient shower head that can allow the minimum 1.1gpm Hot and still be able to mix in some cold to get the warm/hot shower water that most people use for showering. Guest Sink: forget it! I have to turn on the shower hot before the sink even thinks about producing hot water! HORRIBLE! If these reviews were available when I was searching for this product a year ago, I would have passed it up - it wouldn't even have shown up in my filter! Don't consider this product unless you are specifically looking to use it for HOT only....washing laundry, dishwasher, etc. No other practical use for this piece of trash! ... show more

    • $500 PIECE OF JUNK, TECH SUPPORT EVEN WORSE!

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT ! I purchased a tankless water heater on the recommendation of several friends that are thrilled with the ones they own...APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT THE HEATER THEY HAVE! ECCOTEMP TECH SUPPORT IS EVEN WORSE THAN THEIR PRODUCT! This heater is designed for outdoor installation. After 6 months of use the cabinet has paint blistering with rust underneath. The unit has also malfunctioned from water that has leaked in from a defective gasket. After several emails to to tech support they sent me a NON WORKING circuit board, and now, will no longer respond to my emails. Telephone support is non existent, they keep you on hold for 15 minutes then a recording tells you to email tech support then disconnects you. So much for the 5 year warranty. According to information given to me by tech support, this unit is NOT suitable for NORMAL household use. The water flow required to start this heater is so great that any attempt to temper the heat by adding cold shuts the heater off. Tech support has told me that I should not be using faucets with hot/cold mixing option, I need to have separate hot and cold faucets. What? Is this 1920? Are those type faucets even made anymore? They want you to set the thermostat to your desired water temperature. EXAMPLE if you want to take a 100 degree shower, set the thermostat to 100 and get that temp water. The problem I am having is that with the thermostat set to 90 degrees I am getting 120 degree water at my shower and cannot temper it by adding cold...which shuts off the heater. Tech support stated that since I live in an area that has summer time temps that exceed 75-80 degrees, I will not be able to get water cooler than 120 degrees, so I should add another cold water line to the shower that is separate from the hot, and spray the two together to get a non scalding shower. WTF !!! Currently I have been taking COLD ONLY showers for the past 2 weeks and tech support is ignoring my pleas for help. I am about to trash this unit and go back to a traditional tank water heater. AVOID THIS PRODUCT if you live where summer temps exceed 75-80 degrees, or you have modern plumbing in your home. ... show more
