Description

The Earthquake Sound SLAPS-M12v2 is a tunable passive bass radiator that significantly increases subwoofer efficiency and ability for ultra-low frequency reproduction without additional amplifier power or enclosure volume. Designed to perfectly complement all good quality long throw woofers on the market, SLAPS add up to +6dB of bass compared to regular sealed and ported enclosures. The benefit of SLAPS being user-tunable is that they can be integrated into virtually any subwoofer/enclosure combination. SLAPS (Symmetrically Loaded Audio Passive System) overcomes the limitations known from the conventional sealed and ported enclosures that tend to limit excursion. As the name indicates, SLAPS is built symmetrically, distinguishing it from traditional or other inferior passive devices on the market today. SLAPS technology integrates a dual structure of identical opposites in its suspension design, resulting in identical properties in both the negative and positive pressure domain. The high efficiency and performance are a result of the pneumatic coupling between SLAPS and an active driver. The unique and patented design of SLAPS allows the active driver compression-free excursion, resulting in a deep, dynamic, and powerful bass response.

  • Took my existing dual 12" seal box down to 21 Hz
Style: 12-inch (v2)
I couldn't be happier with the performance gains after installing a pair of these SLAPS M12-V2 passive radiators in my dual 12" box. The 2 Skar SVR-12's are fed with 1,200 watts RMS at 2 Ohms, and sounded great before adding the M12's. Now they hit harder, just about as tight. Most of all, they go way lower, and produce a startling subsonic shock on kick drum bass. Using a tone generator, I have fun showing friends how my car starts to shake apart at 26 and 23 Hz. You can't hear the bass that low, but you can sure feel it! I added a 290g disc of stainless steel to each passive radiator, which tuned my box to about 21 Hz, and used red loctite on the double nuts. ... show more

  • Earthquake sound slaps m12 v2. Good stuff!!!
Style: 12-inch (v2)
The Earthquake sound slaps 12 is a really good option for those who want good, clean, deep bass without a huge box. Performance is somewhere between sealed and ported with benefits of both. A bit more musical like sealed box and small box requirement but louder like a ported box without taking up your whole trunk. Win/win situation for me. Easy box build too. Saves money on wood, glue, screws, etc. ... show more

  • Top notch performance but they could have made tuning much easier.
Style: 10-inch (v2)
I absolutely love the performance of this passive radiator. This is very likely the highest performance passive radiator on the market today. 1. Tuning it though is made unnecessarily difficult though. The screw & nuts holding the tuning weights have some sort of thread lock glue on them that is quite permanent & very difficult for someone like me who is disabled & don't have a lot of power tools in order to get it off. It took me a couple hours of trying different ways to remove it without damaging the radiator. 2. They don't provide any extra tuning weights. I had to go to the hardware store a couple of times in order to get weights. The first weights I bought were totally inadequate, but did use one as a large washer to help hold in the tuning weights that I eventually bought. This was necessary due to the large size of the hole in the weights that did work. Otherwise the bolt could have pulled through damaging the radiator. It would have been very nice if they had actually provided a set of tuning weighs for various tunings in the box. 3rd, they need to provide a longer bolt. About the performance. You can gain a lot of performance & headroom using this passive radiator. I gained almost 10db at my tuning frequency of 16Hz & 5db at 25Hz. This represents a minimum of having at least 3 times more power without having to actually have a bigger amp. At 16hz that is almost equivolent to having an amp 10 times more powerful. Other than the issues listed above this appears to be a very well made passive radiator. People say it is cheaper to build a ported speaker. True, however if you make a mistake in your cabinet when utilizing the cabinet walls as part of your port it just became more expensive than a good passive radiator if you make a mistake in tuning as you will have to start from scratch again. With a passive radiator you can just add or remove weights to correct your tuning. A passive radiator won't be as loud as a port in a properly tune system but this one will get you close. It is truly super high performance. You also won't have unplanned resonances as you would with a port. Like the sound of your sealed system but need more output without a bigger amp or losing that nice tight sealed system bass. Look no further than this passive radiator. Make sure you get some DSP unit though so as to help balance the system. My sub amp has built in DSP but fortunately I didn't have to make any adjustments other than turning off my 5.5db bass boost @16Hz & adjusting the overall subwoofer volume down 5db. ... show more

  • SlapsV2
Style: 12-inch (v2)
The media could not be loaded. This version feels more beefier than the V1 for some reason-so quality went up a notch. The cutout is slightly different than the v1 (smaller) so I had to make plates so they fit Over the original v1 hole. The specs (IN Detail) can be found only on the Earthquake EU website-and not the American one for some reason. No big deal. I have them in a 2.4cf box which puts it at 24hz (no mass). They are in the box pictured that housed my V1s. 4 total on 2 15s and WOW. They are loosening bolts all over the car. You may loose a db versus ported but the quality makes up the difference. Definitely worth it. I love the fact that I didn't need to make a box that took up the entire front and back my trunk for these lows. No EQ in the car but do have it on a crossover. Do it right and you'll love it. Make sure your sub has a Qts of .4 or below otherwise you may break something. ... show more

  • What a difference
Style: 8-inch
I have a sub box for 4x8 inch woofers with chamber in-between so I bought two new woofers since I blew my original ones and wanted to try a new different brand. I mounted them on one side but didn't sound right and they needed more air space so the radiators were my best option without having to buy a new box and wow, what a difference it made in the bass. Very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Not as advertised
Style: 8-inch
It is not a drop in speaker. The mounting holes are not the normal speaker setup. They dont match up with the normal existing speaker holes. You will have to modify your box to use the speaker! Might be ok if you are using a brand new box with no holes

  • Not enough mounting information. No easy to install.
Style: 8-inch
Sounds great. Paired with a Rockford Fosgate 8 inch subwoofer in a large boombox. Like the ability to tune with the washers. But, this requires a stepped hole to properly mount. This is not mentioned in the manual. Also the required cutout hole is different than what is stated.

  • they don't fit!
