Description

Over millions of years of evolution and adaptation, the flora and fauna of this unique planet have grown and developed into amazing life-forms, creating beautiful symbiotic ecosystems and diverse habitats. It's time to create your island: a 4x4 tableau of self-supporting growth, expansion and supply where even the cards you don't need become compost for future gain. OVERVIEW: Earth is an open-world engine builder for 1 to 5 players with simple rules and countless strategic possibilities. With its encyclopedic nature and a near- infinite number of tableau combinations, every single game will allow you to discover new synergies and connections, just as our vast and fascinating world allows us to do! Players will create a self-supporting engine of growth, expansion, and supply by drafting from a deck of over 364 unique cards and strategically placing them in their tableau. STARTING THE GAME - The game begins before the starting hand has even been drafted. Players will receive an Island, Climate, and Ecosystem card during set-up. Using these double-sided cards, each player sows their strategy by selecting one side of the card to place face-up in their play area. The combination of these three cards introduces asymmetry to the game by providing variable starting resources, bonus abilities, and unique end-game scoring objectives. ON YOUR TURN - On their turn, the active player will choose one of four different actions, reaping their major benefits, while all other players welcome the minor benefit. Subsequently, all players activate any cards on their player-board, and in their tableau, which match the color of the chosen action. Players continue taking actions, arranging their Island, sowing Plants and developing Terrains to attract elusive Fauna, and unlock the scoring bonuses of diverse Ecosystems. TRIGGERING END GAME - Once a player has added a sixteenth card to their 4×4 tableau, they earn a completion bonus and trigger the end of the game. All players will tally the victory points they earned from completing Ecosystems, reaching Fauna objectives, Composting cards, gaining Plant cubes and Growth pieces, for their Plant and Terrain values and for Events played. The player with the most victory points wins! Game Playtime (min): 45. Number of Players: 5.

  • Like Wingspan, Better than Terraforming Mars
I love board games and I own and play hundreds each year. This one is great. Let me give you some details without boring you, then some pros and cons and my overall rating: Gameplay If you have played Wingspan and Terraforming Mars(TM), then this game will feel very similar. Although I think it is superior to TM and more friendly to new gamers. In EARTH you are in charge of an island and you are attempting to be the player to create the best symbiotic and efficient island. Each turn the active player will choose one of four actions. S/he will perform the main action and all other players will perform the secondary action. Thus, you are always engaged in the game with almost no down time. You continue to take turns until one person has completed a 4×4 grid of cards. You get points in so many different ways that each game is VERY different and unique. TONS of replayability! Most points wins the game. I have played a couple of times with four people and it takes us about 90 minutes to play. PROS - Very thematic. - Beautiful artwork. - Easy to learn and teach. - Super fun (even when you lose... I guess). - Tons of replayability. - Always actively gaming with something to do on everyone's turn. - Player boards and iconography are really good so you can easily understand cards/actions. CONS - Can create a little AP (analysis paralysis) in some people and slow game down a bit. - Not enough opportunity to play the game more... I really honestly don't have much negative to say! Overall Rating: Two thumbs up. 9.5 out of 10 BGG Rating I am fully supportive of you purchasing this game... you will enjoy it. ... show more

  • Beautiful artwork, strategic gameplay
Love this game when we're looking for a longer length, advanced gameplay. Each turn you choose from different actions to build resources, place cards, draw more cards or gain victory points. This creates a lot of opportunity for strategic gameplay, which can slow the game down but also make it very fun and have great replayability. The theme and artwork in the game are gorgeous and one of our favorite parts of this game. The quality of the game pieces are really nice, but as other have mentioned there are slight variations in the shape of the tree game pieces - which stack on top of each other, making them not stack perfectly. We find this does not impact game play. This game has a learning curve due to a long instructions booklet and unique icons used on cards and player boards that communicate actions. This made the first time playing this game extra lengthy, but after playing a few times it's definitely become easier and much faster. All-in-all, once you learn the game and play it a few times this game is really fun and cozy to play! ... show more

  • Fantastic game!
My kids and I love this game! There are endless possibilities. It's fun that everyone takes a turn every turn. I love how you build an island ecosystem. The artwork is gorgeous and the pieces adorable. My only complaint would be there's not enough sprout pieces. We ran out with three players. I can't find additional packets for any of the growth, dirt or sprouts from the original manufacturer. A really fun game!!! ... show more

  • Good game
Earth is a good game. Easy to learn for a gamer, not too confusing to learn for a newbie. Learning curve is not too steep. I do think that it is a lot luck-based, depending on the cards that you draw. Sometimes you get the cards you want, sometimes you don't. I don't know how well it will hold up, replayability is good, but like any game, people may just get tired of it. The mats are great to use, but way not worth the high additional cost (they were part of the kickstarter). ... show more

  • A near perfect tableau builder
There's been some chatter about "Earth" replacing "Wingspan" in the tableau building pantheon. I think they share the top spot quite comfortably. The great thing about "Earth": every player gets to do something on the active player's turn if they are situated to make use of the "everybody"/supplemental action under the active player's main action. Everyone is engaged every minute of the game. There's quite a bit of iconography; but, every player board has an index that's quite clear after brief explanations. I did have questions about two cards in the massive deck; but, the game's publisher responded to my questions within 24 hours. This is a beautiful, engaging game with no down time because every turn is everybody's turn. Earth also has a simple but effective solitaire mode named Gaia. ... show more

  • Good game
This is a great game aesthetically. The cards are beautiful the pieces are well made. The mechanics are well balanced, for the most part. The luck of the draw can make or break this game though. I would encourage playing with drafting rather than just straight up drawing. Overall, it’s a great game, but if you’re looking for top quality game, invest in Terraforming Mars. Far better version of a similar game. ... show more

  • Wingspan++
I bought this because it was lauded as the game to play if you enjoyed Wingspan and the engine-building elements and the precise placement game that it introduces. Earth gives you all that and more! The game is played simultaneously for all players so you get rid of the awkward wait-for-your-turn inactive phase and instead everyone balances what's best for them and not such a boon for your opponents. The game is quick to learn but does take a few sessions to really understand strategy, much like the aforementioned Wingspan. Above all, this game is as fun to play with 2 players as it is with 3+, which is a rarity in the board game world. I've gifted one of these out and own one myself because it's been such fun to play that I can't really wait for the next board game meetup before I go again. ... show more

  • Awesome game!
If you enjoy playing Wingspan or Ark Nova then Earth will be the perfect addition to your board game collection. You can choose your level of competition and you are never forced to be the bad guy by disrupting an opponents strategy! It didn’t take long at all for us to learn how to play plus the gameplay is short enough to play two games in a row. I’m excited to have a new game developer and can’t wait to see what’s next! Five stars ***** ... show more
