  • Works great with my small head and earbuds - lovely quiet!
Color: Marine Blue
I purchased these earmuffs to deal with working from home and sharing an office with my hubby. When he talks, I listen, and then I don't get any work done. I looked for a pair that would fit my deceptively small head, be comfortable, work with my earbuds, and be cute. These hit 3 out of 4! I have a small head - I generally have to buy teen or "small" labeled hats and sunglasses. These earmuffs fit me perfectly. They have enough tension to seal tightly (can sometimes feel like I have a pressurized cup on my ears) without squishing my head. I am kinda sensitive to pressure on my head, I can get headaches from having my hair tied back too tightly, so the right amount of tension was important to me. I can wear these for hours without getting a headache from the tension. There is sufficient padding around the ears and the band over the head has a nice moveable pad (more on that later). So for, comfort-wise 5/5. These earmuffs definitely muffle the sound. They are not noise-canceling, there are no electronics or speakers, just foam and good design. With them on, I cannot hear my husband speaking other than a low mumble (6 ish ft away and him not trying to be quiet at all; not loud enough to distract me) and I cannot hear my dogs barking or "talking" to me. I have a pair of Siberian Huskies and they love to talk to us and each other. They also want to have "howl time" at least twice per day, where they howl together for no apparent reason other than it is fun. We joke that our younger Siberian Husky has a "doppler attack" because his bark can hurt your ears when he wants something. I see his Husky mouth move, but I don't hear him. So quiet! Muffling function - 5/5. I also use earbuds to listen to music/white noise when I'm working. The earbuds fit into my ears and the earmuffs go right over them. I don't notice the cord from the earbuds that connects to their Bluetooth neck rest - again the tension is perfect for that. I can hear the music/white noise and that removes any lingering distracting sounds that make it through the earmuffs. Works with my earbuds - 5/5 Fits my tiny head - check! Are comfortable and I can wear them for extended periods of time - check! Can be used comfortably with earbuds - check! Are cute - not so much - 2/5 for cuteness. They come in various colors, so that counts for something. I couldn't find any earmuffs that would serve my purposes and be cute, so I had to improvise. I ordered a set of Hair Clip Cat Ears (also from Amazon ~$6 -->ASIN: B0894PXJG1) thinking I would superglue them onto the earmuffs. To my delight, the padded band on the top of the earmuffs had enough room to slide the clips on without needing the glue. The clips attach on top and stay put phenomenally. The padded top part fits around the headband part without being attached. It won't come off without completely removing the ear cups, but it slides around on the band to adjust the fit. When the earmuffs are on, the padding stays put. Slide on cat ear clips and viola! cute noise-muffling earmuffs. To sum up, these earmuffs work great for my needs and with a small additional purpose are cute to wear. ... show more

  • Too snug a fit for tall men, need Big & Tall models
Color: Army Green
My first reactions after opening the printed box that these 26dB Model DBPRO44 earmuffs arrived in were that they look very well built and sturdy, I like the color of the army green plastic, they have a perfectly new unscratched finish and the pad on the frame is sufficient and smooth. Then I tried them on and they felt comfortable around my ears like they will seal out noise well but the frame is too snug for my tall head, especially wearing a newsboy beret and even after removing my hat with buzzed hair underneath and lightly tugging the ear cups down on the metal bars they were too tight and stiff. I would suggest that Vanderfields needs a Big & Tall line of earmuffs for tall men with an extra inch or more on each side to extend downward with more arch width, also a model for wider than average heads with a larger diameter, and a combined wide and tall version. The DBPRO44 earmuffs do feel solid and look well built and the retail price was good so I think I will be keeping them to protect my hearing but still will be looking out for a model with a larger frame to fit my tall head more comfortably. ... show more

I purchased 2 of these safety ear muffs . They are used around heavy loud equipment ranging from commercial mowers , chain saws , tractors etc. Easy to use , they grip an hold onto your head an over your ears. They are adjustable to fit , and are collapsible and fold to easily place them in storage for next use . Not to heavy when you wear them , quality is very good and the main thing is to use them to protect your hearing for the long term !!! ... show more

My daughter loves wearing these at school when she is working and needs to tune out the classroom noise. Others in her class have started imitating her and her teacher thinks they are great. She says they are comfortable.

  • 26 NRR, 33 SNR
Color: Camouflage
Companies love to play games with noise reduction ratings. Vanderfields appear to be no different. They vaguely put 33db certified in the title, but not which standard they are measuring by. Worse, in the description they dishonestly state, "The ear protection for noise reduction ... has been thoroughly tested and proven to reduce noise levels to 33dB, meeting the highest standards set by US regulations." - implying that the 33db noise reduction is the US rating. It is not. Or even that it's the "highest standard", which it is also not. The noise reduction rating system in the USA is called NRR and is regulated by the EPA. A similar but different European rating system is called SNR and is regulated by the EU. Due to differing testing methodologies the SNR rating is always considerably higher than the NRR rating. Companies love to muddle the waters by not telling you which system they are talking about, so that you don't know how much noise reduction their product actually gives you, compared to other products. These companies also notably don't add any charts or ratings in either the pictures or descriptions to clarify things. So I have, so that you know. The 33 is for the much higher SNR rating. The NRR rating is only 26. By comparison, 3M's "Pro Grade" ear muffs are 30 NRR, and their "Peltor X5" ear muffs are 31 NRR. Also note that every 10 db increase in scale means a TENFOLD increase in sound pressure. So yes there is a real difference between 26 and 31. I'm not saying these are bad ear muffs, they are fine, but the description is - at best - vaguely worded. At least know what they're actually offering here before you buy. ... show more
