As an avid quilter, I use a LOT of thread. My sewing machines work great with standard spools but the larger plastic spools seem to be the trend for thread and they're not so great on my skinny little spindles. My machine holds small cones or large spools of thread by itself, but these larger cones fall off. My sewing machine doesn't hold anything other than standard size spools so this has been so great! It's heavy without having to add sand or something to the base. My machine doesn't realize the thread is coming from behind it and it's easy to move out of the way when I'm quilting so I don't knock it over.
